I also dont own a kettle or toaster. Im old school ;)

Yes, when I was a little kid I can remember we would light the slow combustion stove at 5am so we would have some coals to cook the toast.
I also remember my mum being very excited when she bought a kero burner toaster. That wasn't a good idea & we continued lighting the fire.
We got electricity when I was 10 in 1960.

Don't tell me this is your blender
 ;)

My one indulgence, I have a KitchenAid - although my teeny, tiny kitchen is unworthy of such a magnificent piece of equipment.

I take it there is no coffee machine either?

Nope. No coffee machine either but we dont drink coffee so thats not an issue. We had a tree taken down once and the guy lobbed on site with, "We'll have 4 coffees with sugar and milk thanks, Love". Hahahahaha. Me: McCafe is down the street and have a drivethru so knock yourself out. I dont even have coffee in the house, let alone 4 coffee mugs!

Holy Smoke ! Where did you live ?

I don't own a toaster either! Or a jug - well technically I have a stove top kettle that gets used very rarely and was primarily bought as it is a pretty pale pink so it matches my Kitchen Aid!

I also don't own an iron...

My D-I-L doesn't iron anything as well ! I have to remember this when buying clothes for the grandkids ! When we got married 46 years ago my mother was horrified that I only ironed the front of Rons shirts :D I told her it as because he wears a white coat and you only see the front of his shirt !! She would come and iron all of Rons shirts after that !!!

My MIL use to iron my husbands shirts too, but then she had cancer. Shes OK now but she never did start ironing his shirts again after that so he had to retire :)

Im going to say the most useful wedding present we got 17yrs and 4 days ago was a sandwich maker. Love it, use it often, especially in winter when a cheese toastie is all we might want for dinner.

I have an iron but don't know where it is. I never iron anything, just pull stuff into shape whilst damp if absolutely necessary.

Precooked rice? I dont even own a microwave.

Yep me neither - I was waiting for the day it broke down to not replace it. Although I do own a kettle but toaster on way out and not replacing either - another appliance off my bench! (Hubby on the other hand likes all that stuff)

Oh. My sister in law would have baked a few scones or biscuits and given them morning tea. And did exactly that a few months ago when someone pulled out their tree. Me - there's the water if you need a drink.

Kenmore in Brisbane, not far out at all, but 1.5 miles up a dirt track called Bielby Rd in an old farm house another 300 yards of the road. There were 4 houses / farms up the road but only the first 2 had electricity about 200 yards up. When 5 & 10 acre blocks started to be sold they ran the power up in 1958 I think. My dad was owner building a new house so we waited for that before connecting.
Life was grand as a kid.

I do like linen and have a fair bit, but I like it relaxed not stiff with creases once you put it on and move. I prefer the just 'shaped' by hand look of the natural fibre

Obviously you are not a fan of linen then. I iron my linen clothes and starch them (most of the time). I love the look of crisp linen even though it doesn't stay like it long.

I haven't used an iron in over 20 years and don't own a toaster- I also grew up with wood fired cooking - not fun in summer

Cauliflower soup again tonight but I forgot the bacon. Still very good and easy to make.

Interested to know what methods are used to cook rice.

This is mine for white rice which is does not require any special rice cookers, measuring cups. (Absorption method)

Any pot with lid
Any type of stove.
White rice any amount you like - washed in cold water
Water - amount to cover rice from tip of finger to cuticle of nail. (Touch rice layer at bottom of pot with a finger and fill with water
Bring to boil
As soon as its boiling immediately turn down to simmer
When steam subsides rice is cooked - dont need to remove lid to check.

Pretty much how I cook rice.

TBH I don't measure the water - I just add "enough" and then a smidgen more.

At the end of cooking I turn the heat off, stir the rice and leave for a couple of minutes.

If I am cooking for more than just a couple I get out the rice cooker.
