Nice TR mate! I'm glad you managed to get back on the next flight. My father was on that flight in J as well as he didn't mentioned it turned into a very very long day getting home lol.

I enjoyed the Trip Report immensely - nice pics and brings back many memories.

I'm on a 3 class transcon LAX-JFK in June and am looking forward to it.

The transpacific menus for QF8, QF12, QF94, QF16 and QF108 are identical currently - it's a "supper" service they encourage you to have one plate and go to sleep. (I prefer to spend about 3 hours watching a movie or two before going to sleep for another 8 to wake up for breakfast around 5 am Oz East coast time.)

As for USA Hltons, some of the better stays have been at Hilton Garden Inns or even Hampton Inns ... they are formulaic, but the beds are comfortably consistent and you know what you'll get. Also, they an relatively inexpensive. If you research enough you can often get a night for $50-$70.

Thanks for reminding me, I forgot to add this - I agree, a bit noisy. Not double glazed which I found odd for a airport hotel.

Whilst I didn't sleep there, the noise was noticeable during the day so it must be super annoying at night!

I was on the front airport facing side, might be better at the back...

The planes drowned out my mates snoring anyway....

How much was the uber car to JFK?

There's flat fares from most Airports to CBD's with Uber.

Uber X is $65 I think, Uber Black is $85 (which is what I did, car was an escalade)

Check the website for Uber NYC to confirm.

You can use this code: egps1 to get $20 bucks off your ride (I'll get a credit too!)

Always found Second Cup pretty good coffee. I have no time for Starbucks, is ordinary.

Ha. :) Exactly my experience with Starbucks in Canada. I do a lot of work over there and have been going to the local office Starbucks for several years now. A 'short double shot latte' it is!

I've almost got them trained! Main problem is as soon as some of the staff understand 1) my accent (although I try to talk clearly) and 2) what I want, they move on. But the manager keeps on keeping on, and a couple of the office also order "an Aussie" from time to time, so as soon as I go in now, he immediately writes up the cup.

There are a couple of good coffee shops in Calgary (hello DeVille ), but when its minus 30, Starbucks is just fine.

Glad you liked it! I enjoyed putting it together, though it is a heap of work.

I think I'll try again on my next trip in April. Back to Vegas for the conference but think I'll stick to the West Coast this time for travel either side.

I welcome any suggestions on where to head!

Thought uber was supposed to be cheaper than regular taxis, it cost me $55 by yellow cab JFK - Manhatten (hotel giraffe)?

Only travel Air Fiji in business, economy might be tight if you sit next to a Fijian (they are big boned)

uberX is about the same ($60) but uberBLACK is more expensive (like a towncar service)

UberX is cheaper than a taxi in Melbourne. May not be the case in other parts of the world.
