'Typically', yes. And it seems like in the QR case, the Australian department did it’s assessment in regular timing but then of course it hit the ministers office.

But we're not talking about QR here. TK went public it seems before they even submitted the application. And now they've submitted they are blaming government for delays, but approvals aren't instantaneous .... that's not the way things generally work. This is a different situation to QR situation.
 
I know; Iwas just giving it an example of how 'typical' timing ( as you have allowed for in your work) may not always go to plan. Not saying you wouldn't know that 🙂.

Why were so many people on this thread still blaming Government/QANTAS/conspiracy AFTER it became clear TK had not even submitted an application? Mystifying.
Because people don't read, nor think, about what has actually been said. They see what they want to, not the facts.
There are people who want to blame Qantas for anything and everything, even when Qantas has had nothing to do with what they are being blamed for.

TK wants to increase the air service agreement from 7 weekly to 14, which they don't need for a year or two given their announced plans, and is apparently seeking to alter a bilateral treaty without the involvement of the necessary parties (eg, the Turkish government).
They also want 5th freedom rights between SG and AU, which they also don't have and need the Singapore and Australian governments to agree to it, which again, requires the Turkish government to negotiate for it, not have some business apply for it.
 
Qantas have said or indicated that they won’t oppose the Turkish airlines application or intentions.

Which is just so very gracious of them.

I certainly didn't get that from today's Senate select committee hearing.

About Senator McKenzie's only contribution towards the committee's terms of reference was asking Hudson if Qantas supported TK being granted fifth freedom rights. Hudson repeatedly said if the government asked Qantas, Qantas would make a confidential submission, completely avoiding the question, much to McKenzie’s disgust. Hudson was very much on the spot there.

Wasn’t from today senate hearing. I’ve been trying to find where I read it but I can’t right now, sorry,but I’m pretty certain it’s the case. Hudson said it somewhere.
 
From my professional experience several airlines, mainly from Asia, have notiifed that they will be flying to Australia from this date. Generally this is just after they get right. But this does not take into account other requirements - mainly the International Air Licence which takes time and in some cases hurdles the airline cannot or does not want to jump over. Then ABF have requirements and so on.

Why on earth would QF support Turkish’s application? They might not object, but there is no reason for them to support it.
 

Seems to be happening soon. Also would be interesting if they do get 5th freedom to SIN. Adds another carrier to SIN route.

I also wonder if they'll price cheaper since you would need to do 2 stops to get to Europe. Compared with many other airline's one stop.
