TV series discussion {'ware Spoiler Alert}

We recently watched The Looming Tower (Jeff Daniels was terrific in this) and The Spy (Sacha Baron Cohen in a very different role). Really enjoyed them both. Mr Jos is addicted to Succession.

OMG, Captain Jack is back!

(reference for Dr Who/Torchwood fans)

Sorry for not tracking this thread more closely.

I got an email Monday morning alerting me to the fact that John Barrowman was back in Doctor Who. I'd seen the first 2 episodes of the season but had lost track of episodes 3 and 4. I checked the ABC Iview app and found episode 5, Captain Jacks episode listed there and watched it straight away. I had no idea at this stage that it hadn't aired yet in Australia. The UK and USA are getting the episodes on the weekend but Australia has to wait for the following Thursday. Rather a ridiculous wait if you ask me and someone must agree if they've released the episode on Iview before the official Australian screening. I loved the episode and was delighted Jack was back. Of course, I'd watch anything John was in.

Just watched Picard the new star Trek
I think it should be good. Hoping it is as I do enjoy Star Trek and Patrick Stewart

I've seen the first 2 episodes of Star Trek Picard but I don't know when I'm going to be able to catch up on the rest. I love what I've seen so far. I like the fact that it will be a continuing storyline. I used to watch The Next Generation and wonder what happened to some of the characters mentioned and what happened next on the relevant planets. Picard so far ties together many of the ideas from The Next Generation but it looks like they'll be going into more depth with them and will have a lot more character development.

Darn. Trying to binge watch Discovery Star trek.
At 11 .30 last tonight still had two episodes to go :(
Trying today to watch the final two in season one and flipping chores keep getting in my way
I have to say I am impressed with the twists in this series

I didnt think season 3 of Star Trek Discovery was out yet? I watched first ep of Picard, it was visually stunning but havent had time to go back for the next 2 episodes. Im not really a trekkie, i only watched the Chris Pine moview reboots and Discovery - never liked TOS or Netx gen etc, seemed so sterile.

ABC has released Doctor Who same time as UK for the past few seasons on iview before it gets broadcast on ABC. If you dont want spoilers than iview is place to go.

WRT Doctor Who Im missing Steven Moffat, I dont mind the new female Doctor but am not really a fan of the current companions and have fallen asleep in more than one episode this season, to the point where as much as I love John Barrowman and his Captain Jack charcater, I havent watched it for a few weeks. Some of this season has been down right silly with Graham shooting lasers out of his shoes etc. I feel Jodie Whittaker is copping a lot of flack but really it is sub-par writing and boring companions that are to blame.

I've just finished watching Season 2 of Star Trek Discovery.

I loved Season 2 much better than Season 1. Season 1 had too many Klingons in my opinion and the way they were portrayed was completely different from other versions of Star Trek. Season 2 felt like more like the Star Trek I've come to know after more than 40 years. I don't agree with everything which Discovery has done but I really liked the story and character development in Season 2. I'm hoping to get access to Season 3 as soon as it's released. I'm not waiting for the DVD this time, I'm too excited for that.

I've watched 3 episodes of Picard and not really enthused about it. So far I found it to be a bit boring.

I hope there is a bit more to it...and soon

I haven't watched the last three two episodes I think I will watch it when the season finishes.
Have to confess I have enjoyed Discovery much more

Really enjoy altered carbon which isn't my usual type of fare so currently watching that

Locke and Key was a series that was good not great but have downloaded to watch on my next trip to see what I missed the first time round

We also have Disney plus but I don't think we are really getting the use out of it . Which is a shame as I had thought it would be good to have

Yes Altered Carbon was very good.

If you like your SciFi (and I love it) watch The Expanse on Amazon Prime where all 4 seasons are now located (Amazon took over the series and made season 4).
I personally rate this as the best sci-fi series ever. The original Star Trek was however exceptional for its time. The modern trek shows I find somewhat lacking. Note that one can sign up for a 30 day free trial if one does not already have it.

The Expanse is a true ongoing developing storyline that just gets richer as you watch it. So have patience with the first few episodes as they are just starting out on what is a series of nine SciFi Books and so there are a lot of characters and plotlines all to be developed. The level of detail is very good. Indeed I just rewatched the first episode and picked up on the that on video screens in the background that future main characters were being shown.

(PS My best Sci-fi movie ever is Blade Runner)
