Two errant lines intersect in Chile, a TR with two perspectives.

until I was down to just three. (I don't want to actually name them as this could offend @drron and @RooFlyer )

If it was me, we'd have to 'drive' all the way up to your other haunt, Colombia. I still want to go there badly, but then you went & upped stakes  I think I'm more of a Patagonia type of guy than Region IV, so I'm sure you made the right choice.

This must be the first time on AFF a duet has been done for a TR.

(Just don't tell @blackcat20 & @TomVexille ;) )

Yeah, I just can't get Thelma and Louise out of my head on this one. :p

Don't forget to check the spare.:rolleyes:

I am enjoying the banter already, and the trips have a long way to go.

Didn’t @Pushka and @love_the_life do a combined TR
Oh yes. Great thinking. Two old Dames on the QM2 then an encore two or three years later.

OMG, we're good, mate... :cool::cool::cool::cool::D.

And - we haven't even uplifted from home yet... :D:D:D:D.

Sorry guys. Two old ladies beat you to it. So how good does that make us then! Five years ago in fact.

And we are not a couple.:cool::cool::cool::D

It would be quite ironic if they upgraded you at the gate for nothing :p

That would be funny but no real danger of that - QF are professional enough to know that rewarding a pax with errant behaviour (buying PE) would be bad for them.

I did actually get an upgrade on the sector BNE-BNE :) But not the long one.

Signing off for now as about to take off (QF27)

I see from FlightAware that @juddles is about 4.5h from touching down in SCL. I'm just under 4h from PER takeoff.

One thing I do miss not going via SYD is S&P squid in the QF F lounge :(.

Aah well, I'll just have to hit the bacon hard on Friday morning in the DXB EK F lounge ;):rolleyes::D:D.

Just cancelled my DXB hotel within the free cancel window, so that’s all good and saves any haggle withi TI.

Looks like I might be in a hotel in PER tonight. Stuff going home ;).

Just waiting to be taken out of the lounge to get bag and exit border control.

Rumour is that a pilot is ill.

Awaiting rebooking. There are still 2 flights/day out of PER. Let’s see how the DYKWIA halo works ;).

I did have a >24h buffer in DXB anyway, but there goes dinner at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel looking up at the Burj tomorrow night :D.

Sorry to hear this. Hope it all comes together.

It’s no problem at all. I would have arrived in DXB at c. 0500h tomorrow and I could have made my original booking to make the outgoing connection to SCL at c. 0900h, but I decided to break it up by staying overnight Thursday in DXB and hauling out to SCL at 0900h Friday.

So I had a handy >24h buffer in DXB already built in.

What’s happening is that the cancelled flight will leave PER at 1600h tomorrow (Thursday) and arrive in DXB at about 2330h same day. I think what they are doing is paxing in another pilot(s) on the incoming bird tomorrow and then just running tonight’s bird 18 hours late.

All it means is at worst I’ll have a 9h layover in the DXB F lounge, if they don’t put me up in a DXB hotel Thursday night. Then I’ll be back on track. Too easy...

I know the feeling of a cancelled international flight as you are waiting to board. Sounds like you have managed it ok. This was EK? Hope the same doesn’t happen to us on Christmas Day as we have no fat in our itinerary this time.

It’s fine for me; in fact, a1600h departure giving a flight over a natural meal time is much better than the original 2220h departure.

It is EK - but a pilot for this flight becoming too ill to work has no bearing on the timeliness of future EK flights. Don’t be pessimistic :).

The last flight we flew out of Adelaide International was cancelled so it’s a bit fresh in the mind. I’m good! After all, it’s only Israel :(:p

JohnM, sorry, @JohnM, have just got to my spot in Chile and gained internet again. I am sorry, but I laughed out loud at your flight cancellation :) All this is what my father would call "Sod's Law". :)

Stop bragging about your preparedness with the over night in the middle east - things could still go pear shaped ;)

Think of things from a different perspective - maybe I caused the flight delay. Initially as a reaction to an earlier thread where I realised that I had an impending Botanist arriving. And the Horrors this reality entails. Then think of of my worry, as "host", that you would freshly experience middle eastern first class wonders before I humbly received you into the mayhem and stark basicness and reality that is my Chile :)

I had, for the record, a horrible trip over. Not the staff - as always I do not post the staff members name, but I had really, truly, good crew in my PE thing. But I just could not sleep. So as I post this I am lacking in that rest department. Some 36 hrs since I have slept?

Arrived in Guanaqueros just as sun set. I did not realize this, but it is full moon tonight. That must be auspicious in some realm? So now I sit in yet another twilight zone, in my private space, contemplating the arrival of an AFF friend. I think this is going to be fun.

All I really know is that nothing will run smoothly. But I am very cool with that :)

I have your arrival locally as 12:38 hrs local time Saturday - for christ's sake let me know if this changes.

Most trip reports give sane, relevant, experiences, which I understand are of so much value. But I suspect this one will fall slightly off the rails. I think of this TR as sheer fun. So please, everyone, take the thread in that light. I am sure JohnM will eventually post nice photos, as surely as I will take the piss out of these same :)

This will be Chile, warts and all. So very far from other realities like sane decent Canberra where people like @love_the_life haunt :)
