UK Air Passenger Duty increasing again and more in 2025

I don’t see the problem with APD going up. If anything it’s good for travellers since it forces airlines to lower their fares to compensate for the APD. Additionally, in many instances it is the airline and not the passenger who covers the APD. One such example is upgrading with points from economy to business on certainly airlines which shall remain nameless for reasons.

But usually they don’t.

If everyone is subject to the same tax regardless of airline, why would they? If an airline is already “cheaper”, they’ll probably continue to be so.

Better to just boycott the UK for longhaul departures. Let the airlines complain to the UK Gov that more people arrive than depart.

I mean, they have , and so have tourism booster groups. But this appears to have fallen on deaf ears, as government can stand behind the environment justification and it's seen as an appropriate progressive tax (i.e. taxes people according to their level of spending - particularly the uplifts for premium cabins and private jets) .

Airlines still fly quite a bit of premium-heavy cabins out of LHR so I would imagine the category of "price sensitive" premium cabin flyer, who actively adjusts their schedule to avoid the APD, to be quite a bit in the minority.

They could if they actually spent the income from the APD on environmental programs. They don't.

How many people go digging into what each line of airfare taxes and fees come from what place?
