A few more comments and photos and then “that’s all folks”!

A bit of plane spotting from the LHR CX F lounge.

Then a quick visit to the QF lounge for some S&P squid and a glass of bubbles. Didn’t think much of the squid, quite a lot of batter, very chewy and slightly undercooked.

And then time to board.

Wasn’t overly taken by the menu offerings but what I had was tasty. Didn’t have the caviar as not big fan and started with the prawns with the veal for main. Both quite tasty. The veal was slightly overcooked but still tender and tasty. Of course this was all washed down with several glasses of champagne. Cathay have a little buddy seat and table extender so we could dine together.

We then had about 5 hours at HKG before our flight to BNE and spent our time at the Wing and Pier first lounges. It was quite busy when we arrived around 7:30 am but quietened down considerably by the time we departed at 12:30 pm and I was able to get a cabana for a shower and refresh.

Our flight to BNE was uneventful and we landed about 30 minutes early. We were in J for this leg as the plane was originally an A350 with no first. This was swapped to a 4 class 777 with F seats. F wasn’t being sold so we were able to score seats 1A and 2A, however service was J. By this stage I was pretty whacked having been awake for well over 24 hours and consumed almost my body weight in champagne so I didn’t take any more photos.

Due to the 11:00 pm arrival time we stayed the night at the Brisbane Airport Novotel, before heading home to the Sunshine Coast the next morning. It was a pleasant change to have warm and sunny weather instead of the wet, cold and windy weather we left behind.

My favourite lounge - for the view and the champagne.

Like others have said, thanks for putting together this extensive trip report. MrsK and I are planning our Grande Tour in a couple of years, and the information you have provided will be invaluable.

This has been an incredible journey and not without a few hiccups, which caused a fair bit of stress and took considerable time to sort out with our TA, especially as we were on the other side of the worlds and in different time zones. However considering the time we have been away and what we have done these seem minor now.

It is with mixed emotions that we settle back in to “normal” life, however we are already thinking about the next trip (although it probably won’t be 4 months next time).

A big thank you to everyone who has followed along, your wonderful comments, support and advice. It truly has made the trip even more special.

There were a number of times when the thought of updating this report got a bit too much and I was thinking why did I start this, however I am glad that I persevered.

Until next time...au revoir!

A very interesting read. Enjoyed it immensely.
Though you do look familiar to me. Maybe have shared a restaurant or two on the Sunny Coast.
