UK Bank Accounts

This is probably a bit late to the party but I opened a UK Monzo Bank transaction account last year via their app on my phone. It allowed me to open my account using my Australian passport.
I am a dual citizen with the UK & Australia but my uk passport had expired at the time of application and only had my Australian passport and that was accepted.
They did need a UK address tho for application. It was extremely easy to do and I find them one of the best banks I've ever used.
I also have a Citibank Global Currency account here in Australia and generally exchange to GBP on there and transfer to UK Monzo account if need be. The citibank account has no international transfer fees, which is awesome, and credits to my UK bank account within 30mins! My Bankwest account charges $15 per transfer and took 3 days!
Hope that helps somewhat

yes monzo did a soft credit check when i opened it with my EU id. do they still post out debit cards? it could be a problem with uk address if you dont have one like me so i got it delivered to a hostel while holiday their. they will start their bnpl soon called flex. others i use are monese curve revolut transfer wise, amex uk. pm if you need a referral for the sign up bonuses sometimes up to 50 pounds like revolut uk current offer. i found that monese was instant to receive funds most of these fintechs use Wise, Formerly TransferWise: Online Money Transfers | International Banking Features as their backbone for intl transfers

Monzo have got a reputation of freezing/closing accounts with little warning.

Other options include Starling, Revolut and Cashplus. As Coolstepsig mentions Wise is an option but it’s not a bank and therefore doesn’t have the £85k deposit guarantee.

I’ve been happy with Starling.

Starling is fantastic. Use it for personal and business bank accounts. Also £300 / day for ATM withdrawals worldwide vs £200 / month on Monzo / Revolut etc. on the free accounts.
