Good Evening all.

I have two queries here.

Firstly,

I found out about AJ's apology, status extension & $50 credit whilst sitting on a Qantas 738.

On Monday morning, I thought I would try and claim it as I was checking my QF point balance.

It should be so bloody easy to claim, but it isn't.
The offer is right Infront of you on the home screen, but when I click accept, it prompts me to confirm my email address and country of residence. All my information is correct and up to date, there's literally nothing to change. So I click on update profile down the bottom of the page, and when I exit that screen, the same offer is still sitting there on the home screen standing out like a sore thumb. From memory, when you update your personal information, you receive an email from QF immediately. Haven't received any correspondence from them. To be honest, I suspect that this is more of a ruse than an offer anyway. Fares will probably increase as a result.

Secondly,

Flew MEL-BNE on Friday, and on arrival, I was charged $5.56 as shown in the attachment.

My bank statement describes the charge as DEBIT CARD PURCHASE Qantas Arrivals Brisbane Air AUS.

The only thing that comes to mind, is that I bought a bottle of water to drink on the train (and walk to hotel from Fortitude valley) from a small store directly opposite the baggage claim.

I may have just answered my own question there, but I'm always slightly alarmed when I see that Qantas has debited me for something other than a booking.

Thanks all.

I suspect that charge isn't from Qantas at all, and it's just Westpac seeing "Qantas" in the name and tagging on the logo automatically. Might be an issue in Look Who's Charging's data.

Why did you click “update profile” if the info was correct?

I can’t remember exactly what it said but I thought there was an “Ok” or similar to acknowledge the info was up to date and then move through to revealing the discount code. Took me a couple seconds on Monday morning and the email confirmation arrived this arvo.

I had a similar problem. My details were correct, but the Qantas IT system wasn't going to let me pass go until I updated them. I got around it by adding a superfluous character to my e-mail address and immediately deleting it. That was enough to trigger the option to submit an update, even though my details were the same.

With all the stringent T&C's on how you can actually use the $50, I can't see myself using it though. I'd rather that they gave it to the IT work experience kid.

I've no intention of applying for the $50, which will require me to spend more $$ on a Qantas flight that I may not have otherwise spent.

A pity there was no option to donate it to charity (many airlines enable you to donate 'miles' to charities, not sure if Qantas does even that).

The T&C's about not being able to use the $50 towards the co-payment on Award flights is definitely enforced...... I tried.

The only flying that we're doing these days is CBR<>PER and we prefer the direct flights, even though it's only a 737-800. Trouble is, the direct flights last time we flew were cancelled in both directions so it was via SYD on the way over and MEL on the way back.

Our next CBR>PER flight in October has already been cancelled and changed to via SYD. It's only that we're coming back on VA (to use up some old travel credits) that QF didn't screw us over on that too, as the direct QF flight on our return date no longer exists either.

We have another forward CBR<>PER booking in Jan/Feb. I'm expecting we'll be screwed over on those too. For any trips beyond that, I may as well just accept that they're going to be indirect and book with points on VA.

EDIT: Sorry, I went off-topic. Essentially what I was getting at is that Qantas can shove their $50.
