Underwhelmed by first QF flight as WP

Bottom line in Asia is that CX know how to do service. QF don't know. BA could not give a toss.

It is VERY unusual not to be personally greated by the senior CSM on a CX flight and you always get meals first and usually get J wine. They will always try to block a seat next to you in Y and often you will get upgraded to J.

I can't remember the last time I got an upgrade on QF. Certainly more than 5 years ago and I have been a continuous WP for more than 10 years. Occasionally you get a good crew but it's rare

OT; I have seen WP's put their BP's in such places so that everyone can see the QF Plat part. Some people and their ego's. LOL

I always check in online and edit the PDF boarding pass to increase the font size of the emerald/platinum bit and change the colour to red. Then I use double sided tape to stick it to the seat in front, or bulkhead!............:p

You could always print several copies and stick them in several locations around you as well as personally presenting one to the CSM :!:

LOL. I'll do that on my next long haul and report back!! I suspect I'll get an onboard upgrade. :)

I've had the best of the best on the SFO-SYD run as a WP. I'm actually going to miss that segment, as it has generally little premium traffic (obviously a major contributing factor as to why it's being axed) and always got the personal welcome and express pass handed to me (always with my seat mate asking what that was about as they never seemed to be WP).

It's Qantas. They're consistent at being inconsistent!

Totally agree with you, SFO-SYD is my favourite routing into and out of the USA. Have done it twice in Y (and still ask myself why I ever did that!) but mostly in J. It was always good being one of the very few WP or CL on that sector, the recognition and extra attention were lovely and will be missed....let's just see what DFW-SYD is like.

But more importantly you're so right about QF being inconsistent.

I've had some great recognition in Y on 95% full flights on SYD-PER, such as J meals and drinks delivered from the other side of the curtain. Then nothing at all in a practically empty (65%-70% full) SYD-SIN in J+. Have always been given Express Cards at check in for J+ sectors, so it's not been an issue if I've missed out onboard.

I am a Platinum since Oct 2010 and never ever greeted on a plane!
In my experience the greetings stopped around end 2009.

On another note you can't loose the username but seems like someone can use the same avatar. Maybe I should use the serfty inspired avatar. :-|
When I saw that post I thought it was you! Oh well.

All in all this works very well and I am always given wonderful service by QF. My only niggle is that almost every flight, a crew member accidentally spills red wine all over me. I wonder what the odds are of that? Anyway, they are always super-polite after spilling it all over me, giving me a big smile and saying that they are "soooooooo sorry!"
LOL!

Which is WHY we all have different experiences.

For some reason I do not get that type of treatment in CX WHY. Certainly never served first, or offered anything from business class, the greetings in WHY are not as common, forget about blocked seats and recently even lost my pre-allocated seat after I boarded....

So perhaps QF aren't the only ones to be inconsistent? On EVERY CX flight as a QF Platinum I've been personally greeted by CSM and offered J wines. On four occasions have been upgraded from Y to J at the gate!

Think you are just a bit lucky! I'm closer to JohnK on CX as a
WP, pretty much donut from them.

The last time I flew CX in Y was SIN-HKG a year or so ago. Sat down at the rear bulkhead on a 773. Received no less than three different greetings from various CX staff and as the only OWE in the rear half of the plane it actually got a bit embarrassing. No need to worry about this on QF however.

Off topic, QF597 BNE-PER (a 763) this afternoon has gone tech, we have all got off the plane and are now waiting in the QP guessing when are going to depart.

It has been three years since I last flew CX, but I had a run of three returns to LHR over a six month period and I have to say the customer service was very good. I was booked in J on all three and had 2 op-ups to F out of the six sectors. :)

I was greeted by the CSM on every flight, and staff in the F lounges were very attentive.

I'd be flying them now but for a change in company policy that leaves me in whY or whY+ on international purchased flights . (The change in policy is mine so I can't complain!!) Unfortunately I need the double points that flying QF or BA affords me......all so that I can either upgrade or book JASA's.

CX do treat me well. Usually Hello from the CSM or their equivalent of CSS. Has only been missed on one flight that I recall. On another flight it was sent via message to my tv screen.

And yes I do get served first (or close to first when in J particularly), can't recall being offered wine from J - but I tend to be a beer drinker when in Y.

Good one Tony!

I'm going down to the tattoo parlor and getting WP on my forehead!:lol::lol:

Timba-Jet,

What were you expecting from them :?:

I think my expectations were higher than normal.

A combination of just attaining WP for the first time, and back to flying QF for my flight home, and on a high after visiting one of my favourite cities San Fran. Also during my 5 week holiday which started as SYD-SIN in F (award upgrade) then SIN-LHR J, I've had variable experiences on OW carriers, RJ, IB, BA, AA, so I was excited about being back to QF for my flight home, even in Y .

Had I got any small gesture from FA/CSM, greeting, welcome back, J headphone, express card, J wine... that would of made my day :p

Overall I'm happy with my past experience with QF. Can't recall any bad flights, some had OK service, most were good, some great. I guess this flight was just OK, and as others have mentioned, best not to expect anything more than normal professional service.

I find that the best approach is to tell them. On boarding the plane, I say in a very loud voice "DO YOU KNOW WHO I AM?!". ............

Hilarious Russ, thats a good laugh...., I'll remember to stick with White or champagne next time, just in case.

So perhaps QF aren't the only ones to be inconsistent?
It has come to the stage where if I have had an ordinary flight then I am happy.

The ones to avoid are the bad flights and if I happen to have a good/great flight then it is a bonus....

Same here. The treatment is so good on CX (compared to QF) that I often wonder how well their top tier Marco Polo members are treated!! :!:

On my CX flights booked in Y, I have actually been upgraded to J more than 50% of the time!

In the 18 mths I've been WP I must say I'm pretty happy with QF.

One op-up SYD-LAX from Y to Y+ when travelling with Mrs Paddy, a NB, and when I was merely a SG!

One op-up JFK-SYD from Y to Y+ - my first flight after becoming WP.

1/20+ domestic op-ups (SYD-PER :)) but 18/19 have had a spare seat beside me, which in whY is really appreciated.

Travelled SYD-LAX-SYD in J late last year. Both flights should have been 388s but, well, stuff happens. However, as someone said earlier in the thread, when things go wrong I think the value of WP really comes to the fore as Qantas were very helpful.

I've some flights on CX coming up so very interested to compare experiences.

One final thing: had 5 flights on AA (3 x F and 2 x J) last Nov and let me tell you - that's an airline who won't recognise anyone for anything!

+1 to all of the above. CX are wonderful
