United fly most frequently USA <--> Australia

It really doesn’t. A large amount of vacant space in the UA economy cabin while QF loads are 100%...

You may have been referring to two or three days but it's untrue that QFi's loadings to and from the USA are always 100 per cent.

In May 2024 for instance, 75.4 per cent of QFi's seats from the USA were occupied, while northeast bound (i.e. from Australia), 73.9 per cent had a passenger in them. So approximately one in every four seats was vacant.

If UA want to have average occupancies of about 64. per cent as was the case in May (the latest month for which BITRE statistics are available publicly), then as RooFlyer has stated, it's especially great for economy class users as there may be the opportunity to stretch out over three seats and have a 'budget sleeping berth'. A bit like travelling in a railway couchette car in Europe.

The QF cancellations ~ delays on some flights push pax onto other flight that do fly about on schedule, so artificiality increase the %.
Too many QF cancellations due to not enough back up aircraft and airworthy aircraft worked hard.

I’ve been watching the USA flights recently with interest.

Having a look at the inbounds in the air now, it does appear that UA is 60% Y full while QF is probably in the 70% range. Trend is loads are better in/out MEL also.

Loads are also somewhat better for QF at DFW.

Fiji appears to be doing very well getting loads up. Certainly all flights are near full.
