Upcoming Qantas Frequent Flyer Changes

So pretty clear for WP's like me then. QF clearly wants most people to be SG!!!

LTG is the way to go, as a back up, and look at maintaining status on another airline or program.

At what stage will QF really start to look after it's WP's?

Agreed.

What's the point of remaining Platinum these days? For me, being able to go into the First lounge a few times a year when travelling overseas by myself doesn't really cut it anymore.

(I either travel by myself or with a few others such as family; and I'm not going to abandon the group to go in the First lounge so I join them in the J lounge).

I already have my November requalification in the bag with already booked or planned QF/OW travel but after that I'll have a Velocity Gold status to maintain so will start considering my options.

Hmmm "Loyalty Bonus" changes from 11.1 QFF points per SC uncapped to 16 per SC, capped at 32,000 per year.

Is that per membership "year", or per Calendar year?

Personally, I would have preferred the re-introduction of of UC's, maybe capped at 4.

Where did you see that?

Pity we couldn't get an alliance with a Telco that is actually usable.
Other than that - all good - can't wait to hit Silver on the 31st of July as part SYD/MEL adventure!

8000 pts per 500 SCs is 16 pts/ SC (better than previos)
but capped at 4 per year

Look forward to more details of the enhanced upgrade process.

The segmenting of WPs is interesting and certainly provides a carrot for people who fly a lot to continue crediting to QFF. Unfortunately being a 'C list' WP who's just scraped in at the minimum requalification level of 1200 SCs this year and will likely only attain a maximum of 1500 SCs this membership year even if I credit everything over to QFF, I am not feeling much love. I am clearly not going to be reaching the lofty heights of keeping Partner Gold this year after the goal posts were moved, let alone Platinum One. So once again I do not see many incentives for people like myself to continue crediting to QFF beyond doing the minimum to requalify for WP and adopting a BFOD policy thereafter. And who knows, if I like what I see with Virgin Australia and feel that they offer greater value, then unfortunately the First Class lounge is no longer going to cut it. Platinums who reach the new Platinum One level are clearly of greater yield/value to QF than myself, yet I reckon there is a not insignificant amount of volume at the lower end of the Platinum ladder QF should do more to incentivise to prevent leakage to the competition.

..........and as a word of caution. If earn rates can be changed upwards so can burn rates.

(I really wish I wasn't so cynical. :()

Come on QF look after your WP's, make us feel loved!! It is not all about SG and PS.

Thanks for the notice. great to get this type of thing. I not sure how I feel about the changes, besides they seem positive. The apparent phase out of platinum is interesting but done better now compared to the previous changes. IMO.

Re other comments on the breaky in ADL, I am enjoying the barista and basic sandwich makings of The Lounge over what QF offers. A toasted ham and cheese sandwich, of sorts, is great.

Unfortunately the changes will make little difference to me, and a number of other frequent fliers in my situation.

I qualified for WP for the first time in April.

Pretty well all of my domestic and international flights flights are business related, and booked by the company using a 'cheapest fare' policy, i.e., discount Y.

Last QFF year I flew 116,854 miles over 73 QF flights,
So far this QFF year I've flown 175,517 over 58 QF flights, with 3 months of the QFF year remaining.

I know I won't make Partner Gold, let alone Platinum One, so no additional incentives for me..:(

Blind as a bat here...

Just crunched those numbers again on the loyalty bonus - again I am not seeing the love here...

You HAVE to take the 50K at 2400 to be ahead. If not then in the spot from 2700 SCs to 3600you are down on what you would have earned before. Obviously Platinum One will make a difference for some people.

I think Red Roo must get depressed when they see these threads - they launch new benefits and all we do is pick them to bits (mind you we did that with the DJ thread as well).

The point is that again solid premium cabin platinum flyers have received very little in the way of benefits improvement recently with the loss of any time access and the increase in requirement for partner gold.

As a SG this means that on my next J trip to Europe I will be getting 50% more miles then previously. I can see why the WP's are less impressed then I am but for me this is good. Would like to see the loyalty bonus to kick in earlier though :D

As someone who has finally attained SG this year for the first time, I am very happy with the announced changes. I guess if I was WP I wouldn't be as impressed, but I am never likely to reach those lofty heights!
Call me sceptical ;), I'm guessing that these changes were made to "balance" possible enhancements that may be coming from Virgin, rather than Qantas suddenly feeling a need to "reward" loyal customers, but whatever the reason, I am happy for any positive changes, whatever the motive!

I note the Status and Cabin bonus increases ONLY apply for Qantas/Jetstar flights.

Will the status bonuses for travel on AA/BA and the Cabin bonus for First/Business/PE remain the same for eligible flights on other airlines?

These are on the whole some great changes to the program, thanks for keeping us posted Red Roo.

As noted above, there's a significant chunk of daylight between Platinum and Platinum One, and much less so than previously existed between Gold and Platinum - which I imagine is going to push people out of that bracket at either end, and encourage some reappraisal of future travel both in favour and against the status quo.

Red Roo, since you are paying attention to this thread, I'd really love it if Platinums were entitled to a small number of yearly any time Qantas Club passes. A number between 3 & 6 would be really nice.

This is also something that I would like. I simply hate the uncertainty of lounge access when (rarely) travelling with my wife and children. To be assured of being able, once a year when we travel together, to show them what I do when away from home would be a great benefit.

Yes it is.:p I mean you are getting bonus on classes as well. And the 200% on WP was always much higher a jump from SG

It's all about me! :p me, me, me, me, me!!! :p:p:p

If I was SG I'd be pretty happy it would mean I am pretty much at the same level as WP.

As for the increase in points, I'm sure they'll be taken away with an increase in burn rate. :(

The changes we've announced to status and cabin bonuses are for Qantas and Jetstar Airlines.

In relation to partner airlines, changes to earn rates, such as status/cabin bonuses, are subject to negotiations with these partners.
