Upcoming Qantas Frequent Flyer Changes

This is per membership year.

OK, so how does this work then.

I am currently showing 150 points to the next loyatly bonus. This is still based on the old system. I currently have 890 SCs for the membership year, how/when will the new counting start?

CORRECTION

Bookings made pre and post today's announcement will attract the new earn rates for flights taken from 17 May 2011.

Good to hear, but I would have accepted it the other way too, as it does make sense you get the benefits that were applicable when you paid for the ticket, as the reverse would be true if things dropped.

Wow, did I actually just get an email which said the words enhancement and I think they actually DO benefit me :D

From 17 May...hmmm, I am about to fly PER/BNE, will I get the enhancements - tomorrow will tell (when the flight posts)

To revisit a prior post here of mine....

There is no mention of cabin class bonus in the revised airline earning table for AA or BA in relation to "bookings made on and from 17 May 2011".

There is only an apparent reference to existing bookings.

This may be an error; a '-' in the appropriate column would be indicative (in a bad way). but there is none.

The very bottom of OK, so how does this work then."]this page seems to indicate the current earn of 450 status credits will continue until 1 December. So as long as you earn 150 status credits before then you'll be right. However, if you earn 145 before then and fall five short, they'll be wiped (for the purposes of the loyalty bonus only) on 1 December and you'll need to start over again.

You realise this is a problem that THEY can't solve, right?

Short of lounge customers all connecting to a VPN service it would be up to facebook to enforce SSL.

Exactly. Instead of a page saying "Click here to accept terms and conditions", you get a page asking you to select a VPN service or to continue unencrypted.

It's not hard to achieve.

Perhaps they should have added the headings as they have for LAN onwards. My suspicion is that the whole before and after 17th May is irrelevant for AA/BA (or anything down to the Jetstar section).

Let's say I earnt 1495 SC in my membership year, would it be correct to say that I would forgo 495 SC as it would not roll over into the new year for Loyalty Bonus calculations?

I was wondering when this would get asked, this is a serious downgrade compared to the old system if this happens.

Qantas and Jetstar flights flown from 17 May 2011 will attract the new bonuses. Booking date does not apply here.

This is good news, as I am currently sitting on the other side of the world with return flights in J in a couple of weeks.

Red Roo, do you guys look at my upcoming flights when timing these annoucnements? I flew out of aus in J on the 15th!!!! and with the last double SC promo I had a huge RTW J fare that was booked 2 days before the promo started :(

20.5 Loyalty Bonus

20.5.1 Until 30 November 2011, members will be awarded a Loyalty bonus of 5,000 Points for every 450 Status Credits earned.

20.5.2 On and from 1 December 2011, members will earn a Loyalty Bonus of 8,000 points for every 500 Status Credits earned in a single membership year - up to a maximum of four Loyalty Bonuses per membership year.
Changes to the Loyalty bonus
Currently members earn a Loyalty bonus of 5,000 points for every 450 Status credits earned. Loyalty bonuses will be calculated this way only until 30 November 2011.

From 1 December 2011, Members will earn a Loyalty bonus of 8,000 points for every 500 Status credits earned within a single membership year - up to a maximum of four Loyalty bonuses per membership year.

At 1 December 2011, Status credit balances relating to the calculation of the Loyalty bonus will be adjusted to recognise only those earned within the member's current membership year. Status credits earned in previous membership years will not be recognised in the calculation of Loyalty bonus after 1 December 2011.
I guess they may be the opportunity to earn a few extra on a one off bonus.

And who would provide this VPN service? Where would users get their username/password? Where would you get the necessary VPN client from? Which platforms would be supported?

None of this is trivial.

Better to stick to using remote endpoints that provide some level of security (e.g. SSL/TLS, or a VPN of some kind for your corporate stuff)

But you won't actuall earn less points. Gold will earn half as much more - just means the increase in earn for SG to WP will be 25% - in your original post, you said you would earn 181 less points?

I never said I would earn less points. I said the extra benefit is less. here is the post, it does not say that I earn less points. It talks about the platinum benefit, and the reduction in the value of that benefit.

Except for my usual flying they have devalued the benefits. Platinum used to mean an extra 362 points on my regular route, it is now 181. The benefit to me of being platinum is reduced - devalued.

Minimum points guarantee for Business?

Having check out the website re the changes, I notice that the "minimum points guarantee" for Business fares still shows as 1250; surely it would be more logical to increase it to 1500? Is this as intended, or an oversight?

I've been sitting under a rock today apparently! I just got the email from QF about this, so of course came here to check for a thread and it has 126 comments already!

Will have to read through it all tonight, but my initial reaction is "it's amazing what a bit of competition can do". (I'd like an increase in the points bonus for WP though - maybe 125% would be nice?!)

So thanks must go to Virgin Australia for these changes, after all without them, it probably wouldn't have happened

Now looking forward to VA bringing on the Velocity changes as well!

I hate to repeat myself but I really would love to know more about this.

Essentially the less that QF looks after me as a top-tier flyer* the better their base level product needs to be in order to keep my business.

* Not for long - WP1 will be out of my reach

Thanks, missed that post. If I weren't to fly an more than my currently booked flights in my current membership year (which coincidentally ends 30 Nov), I'd have a balance of about 300 SCs that will be wiped which would have previously rolled over. This would not make me a happy WP

This is hardly what I would call a solution for the session side-jacking exploit you are referring to. What you're proposing is a disclaimer page, not a security scheme.

Red Roo, as somone who's company travel policy now stipulates that PE is the highest class that anyone gets to fly it, it still irks that the SC earn rate on a $6K PE ticket is the same as a $2.5K economy fare. Is there ever going to be consideration to separate the SC earn rates for PE fares so that they more resonably recognise the increased cost of the fares over the economy equivalent?
