Upgrade Promotion on E/N/O/Q fares

I received it.

I do have a couple of bookings in Y on E/N/O/Q fares but they're all on either a Dash 8 or convertible 734s between CBR-SYD. I'm not going to waste my points upgrading to what I term as "Y+" (a 738 would be a different story).

Having said that, I think I'd still rather a convertible 734 over VH-EBO in J :p

Looking at the email I got it said

"promotion between 12.01am AEDT, 25 November 2010 and midnight AEDT, 29 November 2010"

But it does not put a date your travel has to be. Mine is in December but it seems any booking upgraded in these times will be valid even if months away so not just when Business travel slow over Christmas.

Did not receive the email, but would not have been any use to me as all Dec/Jan flights on the Dash 8 and Deathstar. Hopefully I'll be on the list for double SC instead ;)

Re: Exclusive Offer to upgrade

Anyone else get an email "offering" the opportunity to upgrade a non upgradeable fare?

My flight is in late January. And here I was hoping for an opup!
Yeah, I got the same e-mail for a SYD/MEL return in a couple of weeks' time. They're offering the upgrade for both sectors of my trip. Not sure I'll bother, as 16,000 pts can be put to better use, IMHO.

Ok, I'm flying BNE-SYD-ADL on QF20 & QF81 again - fares are getting so pricey in Dec it was one of the cheapest options. So thought bugger the early departure, Flounge will make up for it.

A330-300's/Skybeds on both segments. If you could only upgrade one segment would you choose:
-BNE-SYD for 8k w/ breakfast + the very early morning. 1hr 40mins
-SYD-ADL for 12k during late morning with just a snack. 2hr 10mins

QF20 not being a 763 anymore might be a good choice. There's U availability on both.

Other question: Do DOM segments on INT flights work as instant upgrade or lottery style?

Not sure if I got an email but a random check of my 26 odd bookings shows that I can upgrade on O fares. I'm not sure about doing it as I kind of stuffed myself upgrading a SYD-ADL on a 734 earlier this week. Got caught because I didn't realise the upgrade would clear immediately (unlike INT) and was just playing around. As far as I can work out there is a 5000 point cancellation fee.

Of course, I'll be coming back from FRA so even on a 734 J seats are probably preferable. Still with my low points balance I probably should have saved the points to upgrade the SIN-SYD in Y. Might check to see if my SYD-SIN O fare can be upgraded.

I received this email too.

I currently have SYD-MEL booked for January and I can now request an upgrade.

Interesting, I have SYD-LHR booked for May 2011 in O class. Previously, if I tried to click upgrade online, I would see a standard page telling me that my flight cannot be upgraded due to x,y,z etc. However, since I received the email, I can now see an upgrade request page, only thing is I can't request an upgrade yet as it is too far out from my departure date.

Anyone know if I would still be able to upgrade SYD-LHR once this promotion expires?

Thanks!

I got the offer as well.

I am not going to waste valuable QFF points on upgrades for domestic flights. All my QF international flights are in V class and even then I am hesitant to request an upgrade MEL-SIN on the A380 for 40,000 QFF points or PER-SIN for 24,000 QFF points.

I think it is best to stay in economy for now and use QFF points for a Oneworld award later....

Wonder if any SYD-PER flights are eligible so that they can fill the new "PE" seats :p

Not sure that the sectors are targeted, rather as a variable in the email it references one of your upcoming PNRs in 'My Bookings'. Mine referred to SYD-MEL although my first trip is SYD-BNE-SYD then SYD-PER-SYD.

16,000 points to upgrade to Y+? Last time I upgraded a higher fare with 10,000 points for a Skybed in both directions. That fake J cabin is a joke.

For us Syd-MEL @ 8k each but couldn't get the upgrade on the 16.00pm return.
SC's at original fare level only.

Yeah got it today for a MEL-CBR on 26 Dec. As JohnK said why bother for a QF Y seat? It is only a short flight and I will get the front row of Y anyway or maybe even an op up.

I received it for a MEL/PER next week. Tried the upgrade online to get the 'usual' "upgrade not available screen". Rang the service centre to be told that they cannot help and the reason I was getting the above message is that there wasn't a seat available to upgrade into.

I consider that I responded to the email as soon as received (although acknowledge that others may have received it before me); why bother offering something you can't deliver?

Nothing received here, but then my only trips sitting in QFF are LHR-PER-LHR segments.

No, that is incorrect. There may not have been any U availability but it still gives you the options and when you go to request it days something along the lines of no upgrade seat available.

I didn't get the email but just checked online and I can upgrade my upcoming O class flights.

I have LAX-BNE, LAX-SYD all in Y on a 744, and SYD-LAX in 80A on A380.

Seriously thought about this promo, but thinking I might hold off and use the points for a JASA instead.

I guess QF were not aware that your flight did not have any upgrade availability when they sent the emails.

And sometimes with these mail-outs the list is constructed (to give marketing the option to refine the list) well before the email is sent and availability changes quite regularly.
