Hi guys,

I would dearly love to hear some feedback from those of you who have travelled on an A380 in J and in F.

I am flying home (SIN to SYD) on QF32 on Thursday 25/8

I am wondering if the 25k points outlay is really worthwhile or not, and if you have better success submitting online or via the phone.

Cheers!

I've been upgraded from J to F on the SYD-SIN route and yes it was worth the 25k points.

I have also flown J on this route and am glad I have done the trip in F. Both classes of travel are perfectly acceptable but like anything it is worth while doing at least one F trip in your life.

Of course it makes it so much harder to go back.

Definitely worth it. I was lucky enough to get an op-up, but I would shell out 25k in points for the upgrade. :)

I also have a one way FASA from LHR-MEL booked for October! :)

Thanks. I went online and am not able to (I am part-way through my journey).

Will they charge me extra to try to upgrade the home leg by phone?

From a seat award availability perspective QF32 25AUG11 shows:-

F8 A8 J9 C9 D9 I9

So if you are a WP or a SG your chances for a J to F points upgrade looks very good.

My only QF F experience was on QF31 on a Wed traveling with three others. All 4 of us - 2 WPs, 2SGs got points upgrades...

Brilliant! Thanks for that.
I tried doing it online, but the website didn't want to let me do it.
I've now rung and asked nicely.

I'll take piccy's and post them :)

[I presume they never give a free upgrade?]

Cheers!

Personally I think it's worth it. Though the SYD-SIN leg is better value (due to the tasting menu). There are occasional "free" upgrades - but only when QF needs to upgrade people. I've managed to get two so far (LHR-SIN and SYD-SIN) :) But also many more declined upgrades - sometimes F is just full.

Can't comment on 388 J, but was points upgraded J to F SIN-LHR and F was damn good! Will experience 388 J in a few months (SYD-SIN), but even without that experience I'm gonna say (based on pics I have seen of J) 25K points is worth it for the upgrade (not that I think there would be anything wrong with J).

I agree with this - the inbound SIN to SYD/MEL legs are scheduled for sleep time! I have only experienced A380 F outbound MEL to SIN (op-up), and loved the tasting menu. If you can get it on any LHR/SIN route (either direction) that would be good too.

(I was offered the SIN-LHR op-up in F also, but that was because the SIN-FRA leg was delayed - I declined, because I didn't want to transit LHR to FRA and risk baggage dramas - and it would still have gotten me to FRA several hours later!).

Sensational and well worth the measely few points IMO.

Tasting menu ex AU is sensational, and sleeping from SIN-LHR/vv much more comfortable.

The service is second-to-none, and you will find the most experienced and friendly crew onboard. Rumour has it that one customer complaint in F and the crew get shafted back to J, but they are so good you should have no reason to complain.

Oh, and you can continue the champagne flight from the lounge right through to the onboard experience :p

...the inbound SIN to SYD/MEL legs are scheduled for sleep time!..

I find this entirely stupid. QF32 leaves SIN in the morning, arrives SYD in the evening. Unless you don't understand how jet lag works, why on earth you would want to sleep on this flight is beyond me.

IMO, the moment you leave LHR, you should be operating on the AU timezone - i.e. sleep LHR-SIN, stay awake SIN-SYD. Get home and get a good sleep overnight.

You might notice me on your next flight - I'll be the one pleading with the FA to keep my window shade open and with all the lights on in the F suite as this is a DAY flight and you need to be exposed to sunlight to avoid the jet lag.

I think the poster may have been referring to QF10 into MEL. :)

I have a sneaking suspicion that QF32 is the only flight QF flight from LHR that lands in the evening these days.

Missed the tasting menu on my last upgrade to F as that was out of London but am hoping to score one out of Sydney later this year. Just a little question to the ones that have had the joy before:

I am allergic to seafood and therefore fear I might not be able to enjoy it- how 'seafoody' is the tasting menu in F and do you think they could just replace the courses I can't eat with something else? Service in F last time was so incredibly fabulous, I cannot really imagine them saying "Bad luck" because I can't have seafood? Any ideas?

I'v had a couple of upgrades on QF9 between SIN and LHR both great experiences. The only downside is that I've yet to experience J!

Yep - my bad ! I assumed QF32 was the QF10 equivalent. So, by all means, upgrade that QF32 flight! What would a silly Melbournite know!! But do you still get the same tasting menu ex-SIN?

Hi Berlin,

The tasting menu will almost always have Seafood included but the Cabin Crew can definitely replace courses for you.

Cheers,
Red Roo

Tasting menu is only ex-AU. I believe it is on QF31 SYD-SIN, QF9 MEL-SIN, QF11 SYD-LAX A380 routes). I'm not sure about the 744 routes - someone else may have the inside track as I haven't flown those in F.

Regarding seafood, there was a prawn starter and a scallop in there, but the rest was non-seafood. I'm sure they could swap it out to something else, or just omit those and substitute the steak sandwich :-) It is F after all - you can have whatever you please.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply- really looking forward to my (otherwise dull) business trip in November now! :D

Yep, you're right - sorry doesn't apply to QF10.

QF31/32 - if you believe the amadeus schedule, are being cut next year, and replaced by QF1/2 (flight no & schedule) and operated by 388. Sad sad say, as I love the day flight - much better for jet lag IME.
