Upgrade to F on A388

QF31/32 - if you believe the amadeus schedule, are being cut next year, and replaced by QF1/2 (flight no & schedule) and operated by 388. Sad sad say, as I love the day flight - much better for jet lag IME.

Yes we in Melbourne lost the HKG-MEL day time flight this year. :( I find I recover faster when I land in the evening. I'd go for QF32 but it lands too late in Sydney to get me back to Melbourne. :(

I couldn't agree more Tony. The thing I don't understand is that these routes were the profitable ones... surely the schedule plays a part in their profitability. Why drop QF32 is beyond me - and I note this wasn't part of the announcements!

Technically, I think you could arrive on QF32 (arr 1900) and transfer to QF497 (2205) but that makes for quite a late night :(

Thanks for the encouragement guys - I can confirm the QFF website shows my request is in, but says it won't tell me until 5hrs prior.
I'll be stuck on QF3950 at that point, so seems I will either get a nice surprise at SIN Flounge, or potential disappointment!

Does anyone know if it cheaper to buy ciggies in BOM or SIN, and if I should bother getting grog in SIN? (Can't buy grog in BOM as SIN will confiscate?)

Cheers

Even QF A380 J will be heaven after a Jet Airways flight...!

I don't find duty free in SIN to be of much value, cheaper in SYD/MEL on arrival. Electronic goods are a bit cheaper I think from memory.

My tip: Don't buy ciggies or grog and extend your lifespan ;-)

It is posssible you will find out re the upgrade up to 24 or so hours prior - that was my experience last year (but of course it may indeed be 5 hours).

Hi guys,

I would dearly love to hear some feedback from those of you who have travelled on an A380 in J and in F.

I am flying home (SIN to SYD) on QF32 on Thursday 25/8

I am wondering if the 25k points outlay is really worthwhile or not, and if you have better success submitting online or via the phone.

Cheers!

Yes... and by yes I mean YES!@#@$!

I got upgraded from LAX to SYD on the 388. I was skeptical as to whether the difference between a lie flat sky bed and a suite would be that substantial but yes I was well chuffed with the flight. Definately at least do it once, I feel there are much worse ways to burn points.

Hope you get the upgrade, its certainly worth it. Keep in mind that if you want tiptop cabin service then go for upgrades to/from Aust where you'll still get Aust crew - my late June and mid July Q flts SIN to LHR and return were completely UK staffed in J on a 388. Indifferent would be an apt word for level of service (no famous Q jimjams without asking..)

That's strange you have that perception about 9W - I've only had one Jet flight previously (in J), and I thought it was great. They make the bed for you with a duvet, give you nicer PJ's than QF J, and the attendants were nice (no dragons!).

For me, most of my flying is international in J cabin, and I've always had a better experience with the attendants on any airline other than QF, so I am really looking forward to see how I get treated in F...

Ah, that explains my QF31 experience from SIN to LHR. I was so tired I nodded off (sitting upright) just after takeoff. I awoke to find them handing out pjs to the right side aisle passengers (FJK). I waited for mine, and had to request them. She seemed to have glared/rolled eyes at me (it was dim) and basically tossed them on my lap.

And completely opposite to my F experience on QF31 SIN-LHR last year. :) The UK based crew were just fine (without being noteworthily exceptional). I guess we all can only go on what we have experienced.

Have only had one suboptimal F experience, SYD -LAX-JFK ( when QF had F on LAX-JFK)
Subsequent experiences have been better and well worth points upgrade IMHO. YMMV

Alrighty! Points have been deducted and the request has been processed. For a moment there, I thought they had taken more points (35k vs 25k), but that was just me with bad vision in the morning...

Looks like I must be one of the scummiest pleb platinums, as they dumped me in the last row of F (row 5) and there are plenty of other free seats in better position/rows ??? I've now fixed that on the intarweb :)

Will let you guys know how it goes.

Do they hand out the PJs on this flight (or is that a night only benefit?)

There are a few folk here that would argue that row 5 is the place to be!!!:)

Good result! I would have thought PJs were for night flights only but happy to be found wrong on this (there is a list published somewhere here or on FT of all flights that 'earn' PJs).

Enjoy your flight!

I believe PJ's are available for all First Class PAX - they'll surely provide on request in any case.

It's business class where the provisioning of PJ's varies - here's an FT thread started by a QF International FA:
