Ways that hotels annoy guests

One other annoyance - hotels that have toilet seats with the hole being so small that you struggle to get all of the relevant anatomical parts in the hole when sitting down - and I'm by no means obese at 6 foot and sub-100 kgs.

Was in a hotel in Coventry UK last weekend where clearly the seat had come from a much smaller model of toilet than the bowl.
I cannot ‘unsee’ that!

I remember hotels like that in the UK where the door banged on the edge of the bed and if you pushed your luggage in first there was no room for yourself! Even so nowadays the HIEs don't leave much room for luggage.

I will say this until I die... which most probably will be casued by one of these...... but shower over tub bathrooms, aka shower of death. Especially if no handrails because they ruin the asthetic of the room.

Every single one needs to be ripped out and replaced with a normal shower
Even worse when they have a rail for a shower screen the whole length of the tub, making the edge even higher. Hard to get in and out and hard to bath your kids. Not what I expected from a $900/night hotel 😳

Its to stop the burglars at night...
And then you have to put the case on the bed to open the door and leave the room.
I've stayed at that place!

I don’t know what hotels you lot are staying at, but right now I have:

- Electrical sockets on both sides of the bed, at the desk, at the tea/coffee nook, in the bathroom and bonus ones near the TV and bottom of a wall (where I’ve used the iron!). If I had a stick, there would be more power points than I could shake it at.
- a bathtub with normal taps and faucet and a shower wand at one end of the bath.
- a separate shower with both normal shower head and a wand shower head. To switch between shower heads there is a simple pull button.
- the shower tap is a simple single handle controlling flow and temp.
- three places in the bathroom to hang towels.
- toiletries I can read without my glasses on, in different coloured bottles anyway. And a cake of soap if I want to use that.
- staff that don’t enter the room when I turn the DND light on (most days), but leave a note under the door saying they came to clean the room but didn’t because of the light and if I want anything, to contact reception and it’ll be brought up to me.
- door staff that almost always get to the door before I can open it, even when I get out of a car quickly and try to beat them to it. 😁
- at breakfast my used crockery, glasses and cutlery is cleared almost as I’m finishing using it.
- on entering the spa area to go to the small gym, the staff there have a towel out for me before I even start signing in. And they have the used towel basket open as soon as I head back toward their desk.
- chilled water in the gym and spa area.
- enough hangers in the two wardrobes.
- a safe that works fine and is big enough for my laptop.
- a mini fridge uncluttered by anything.
- there is a band that has played at the little ‘pub bar’, usually Fri/Sat nights.
- a lovely garden surrounding the pool where I often sit for dinner (that generally costs me less than $20).
- no noise from my windows.
- no light coming in through the curtains when I close them.
- light switches marked with names and a master switch beside the bed.
- free wifi.

Now, let’s talk about the large rat that comes out and runs past me most nights, whilst eating dinner at the pub bar, overlooking the lovely garden… little cough has been too quick so far for me to get a photo!

A real bar of soap! That's a real luxury these days!

Strongly scented anything in rooms. Had to take out some very strongly scented things from a couple of Airbnb‘s as well.

I can’t travel without my own toiletries because of the strong smelling ones in hotels

Bathrooms with clear glass so the person in the bedroom has a clear look into the bathroom, including the toilet

The Christchurch Airport Novotel comes to mind, where the basin isnt even against a wall so you can brush your teeth and spit toothpaste at your roommate if youre arguing while brushing (not that the Denali's would do this). Same hotel that had clear glass bathroom doors in another room so you can have a bath in the tub (with no hand rails) while watching planes taxi and watch the traffic and they watch you

Which brings me to the Darling Harbour Sofitel with the corner rooms with the bathrooms. Sitting on the toilet or in the bathtub and watching Sat night fireworks with your lights on means those staying at the Darling Harbor Novotel can clearly see you. I recall the couple that got into the bath together last year

One would think they would charge extra for those rooms! :) :)
