'Upgrade to Platinum Sooner' Offer

When you log into your Velocity account online.

In the middle down a bit there will be a table and one line will read:

Status Credits earned since <Date>

To get platinum you need 1000 status credits. So 1000 - <number from above>

You also need to achieve the minimum number of sectors.

You need to be this within 1 year from the <Date>

From the email you need a further 96 Status Credits within 2 weeks to get up to platinum.

If you think it is worth it, that's another matter. Gold is deemed by most as the "sweet spot".

When you log in the purple bit which has Status Credit amount is really pointless. Whilst I understand it, its pointless information.

With that 160, how many SC have year earned in the last 365 days? How many Eligible segments have you had in the same period?

It's a very interesting question whether the retro credit applies to the promotion. It depends on how it is coded, if the code is looking at your total SC, you should be in good shape. If it is looking at SC earned in those two weeks, the 160 SC won't help.

It's a strange offer to be honest... most people won't take a previously unplanned trip in the next two weeks. They ought to give you a little more time!

I think you misunderstand. The email is suggesting a promotional offer to get Platinum sooner. So the normal online information and 1000 SC goal isn't relevant.

I'm pretty sure it's an "encouragement" email to notify someone they could achieve a higher status.

Though it could be a targeted offer, though they are more "earn 300 SC's in the next 3 months and we will give you platinum".

Happy to wrong.

If it is, the numbers are well wrong. Of course, it wouldn't be the first time VA has struggled with math. :)

The wording does read as if it's a targeted offer rather than a reminder of what the normal requirements are: "To upgrade and enjoy the added benefits of Platinum sooner, an additional 96 Status Credits# and flying the required number of Eligible Sectors^ are needed in the next 2 weeks."

The "sooner" bit suggests it's an offer to get there without reaching the normal 1000 SC threshold.

However, if it is a special offer, 96 SCs is very odd target (why not 100, or 90??), and I agree that only giving you 2 weeks to earn a relatively substantial number of SCs seems a bit pointless - as someone else said, it's unlikely that many people would be willing or able to fly enough to earn that number of SCs at such short notice.

As for the retro claim - I very much doubt that would count for anything. The general rule is that SCs are counted on the activity date, not the date on which they are credited.

OT, but does anyone ever click the "more details" tab on the "upgrade to Platinum" table? I just happened to use it one day and it loaded a very handy window that illustrates how my SC will erode over the coming 12 months or so. I have used it to great advantage to calculate my prospective SC balance at the end of each month through 2018. I saw at a glance how to quickly rise back to WP with some strategic planning.

What SCs if any do you have expiring in the next 2 weeks?

IME these emails never show the right amounts and I wouldn't take them as a promotion, just more lazy coding

Im struggling to use the 4 WP comps this year and soon we will have 8 of them!

Although the 100% WP bonus is a big winner.

Good luck, OP.

I thought I would never use all mine but somehow managed to. It helped that I learned you can use them for flights that are after the expiration... as long as they clear before they expire!

How could you explain someone with 657 SC getting an offer of 96 SC to Platinum with lazy coding?

They ( 4 WP comp upgrades) dont carry over to the next year

Thanks and yes, you are correct but my husband is currently WP (with 4 unused comps), and I will be WP by the end of the month.

So 8 available WP comps for us as a couple.

Sounds interesting, but is the exact word of the link 'more details'? I have 'find out more', but it doesn't lead to a table like you describe. My table is titled 'Maintain Platinum' as I am already Plat but I figure it should sow it.

Perhaps you can post the URL of the link?

Cheers

Once you are WP it does not show as its really only relevant to the floating period used to determine status elevation.

The link does not show for red accounts

Sorry, it says "more details", should have checked. I guess it only loads if you are SG or Silver. It's actually a 2 page window that goes all the way to 31 December and shows the potential decline in a very convenient format. I booked our Premium and Business class flights using this information and could now reclaim WP if all goes according to plan.

With that 160, how many SC have year earned in the last 365 days? How many Eligible segments have you had in the same period?

I've earned 817 SCs in the past 365 days (as per my current SC amount posted earlier).

Weird update:
I got *another* email 2 days later offering a new amount of SCs to earn in a new time period.... so strange.
I've quote both emails below noting the important differences in bold
