I tried googling this and searching this forum and didn't find much info, so sorry if this has already been addressed.

Is it normal to still have "Note: Your request for an upgrade to business class from xx_ to xx_ has been declined" on my FF webpage, even though my class is now listed as Business (U), Confirmed, and the points have been deducted from my account? This is the second time this has occured (the first time i got a business seat with no issue), however I'm worried that when I get to the counter there's a chance i'll end up in economy...

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks Dave.

Qantas have been ****ing me around so much recently, the final straw was when they didn't renew my Platinum status because I fell short by 40 status credits. I now have 600,000 points to burn through before i start finding a better carrier to use. If this flight wasn't upgraded, I was going to just cash in for a cough load of vouchers when i got home.

In all fairness to QF, they're not required to comp you status; if you want the status then a status run is worth doing to ensure it.

Thanks Dave.

If you didn't get the required status credits, how is their not renewing you a "final straw" ? Sometimes they have done it, but I have heard that they are cutting back on it; the safest bet is to get the 1200 unless you have seen an early renewal occur

As you purchased economy you must have accepted an economy seat would be OK. Upgrades are never guaranteed. If you want a business class seat pay the $$ when making the reservation.

Aside from the fact that no seat is ever guaranteed , This is really only pertinent for International Qantas flights.

I have some upgraded domestic travel in May where I'm seeing a similar thing. See this thread:
Other than that, Boondy, welcome to AFF. :D

O.K it seems as if it is a common bug with the site, I just checked in at HK airport with a business class seat and no issue.

I don't want to get into why I'm pissed with Qantas on a public forum, so I take back my previous post. You're right Dave, I shouldn't be whinging about not meeting their criteria.

Mwenenzi, I attained Platinum status in the first 6 months of my membership cycle, and missed out on having it renewed by 40 status credits this year, mainly due to the fact that I was stuck in the U.S for 4 months and unable to leave. Your comment is as obnoxious as it is irrelevant to the subject of the post.

I'm simply trying to burn through my points so my plan was rather than buying a business class ticket, I would purchase an Economy, apply for an upgrade and if it was declined before checkin I would simply do a no-show, pay the $200 penalty and reschedule for the next day. Unfortunately as I haven't tried using points on international flights much in the past, I wasn't aware of this "glitch" in the system. I thought it would simply popup with an acepted or denied message 5 hours before boarding, as it mentions somehwere on the site in the FAQ section. I didn't think that was relevant in the first post, but after reading a couple of the replies I think it's worth a mention.

Congratulations on winning the upgrade lottery. It always comes as a relief when actually handed the upgraded boarding pass.

It seems the first indication that an upgrade is likely to be successful is being told its been declined at or around the 20-24 hour mark. It seems this is actually a good sign when it happens at that point. The first positive indication is when the points are removed from your FF account, even though it will remain showing as declined for many more hours.

Enjoy the J experience on the flight.

Not to keep pushing the issue, but I'm also a victim of the system. Depressing for me as an IT grad I know that this is just a plain oversight in specification / testing.

The tell-tale signs:

  • Requested my Domestic upgrade this morning (from K) as soon as I finished booking the flight. E-ticket hadn't been issued yet, but I called Qantas and they said as soon as the ticket was issued they would put the upgrade request through for me.
  • Upgrade looks like going through: seatcounter showed all of D and J still available (a rarity for a flight happening in 2 days), plus a Classic Award search showed J seats still available.
  • Some minutes fluttered by, then...
    • E-ticket issued and emailed - no biggy.
    • On Manage My Booking, the silly combination of:
      • "Your upgrade from Brisbane to Sydney has been declined."
      • Class: Business (U)
      • Status: Confirmed
      • Upgrade Status: Declined
      • Checked Baggage: 1 piece (if it were J that should read 3 pieces)
    • On my account statement, it shows a line of -5000 points for my upgrade, but my points balance has not been updated yet (a la the bank's Current Balance vs. Available Funds). As of this posting, still no sign of the points "disappearing" from my balance. (Not that I would complain if I got a "free" upgrade ).
EDIT: Points balance has been updated, so I am now 5000 points lighter. I hope this means that all will be OK....
    • www.checkmytrip.com shows me flying in Business, with the flight confirmed.
Although I understandably bought an Economy ticket, I still balk at the possibility that at the airport I will be told that (amidst the flurry of conflicting information) my upgrade was unsuccessful.......

anat, I experienced the exact same issue with mine. Declined/Confirmed/Business mish mash.

I was also refreshing my page every 10 mins or so, and had the phone ready to call Qantas and delay my flight if it came up Denied on all fronts...

I found that a line showed up on my statement "-40,000 points deducted" however my balance didn't update for another 2-3 hours after. I'm guessing yours will be the same.

I also used to work as an I.T Network Project Manager and find it hilarious that the largest airline in Australia can't get their online/reservation system working properly especially seeing as checkmytrip seems to have better information on QF flights than Qantas does...

Dave, the safest bet would be to go beyond 1200 so that at your renewal date their are no problems. Imagine if you got to 1200 exactly and 10 SC's were taken backat the last moment?

Well, here's another cheese.

Now that I still have my buggy entry in the booking, I can't OLCI for my J leg. (It's gotta either be that or the fact that OLCI won't let me check-in for only one leg of my itinerary, or a combination of both...)

I balk at calling QF to resolve it so I can OLCI, just in case they decide to renege on my upgrade (the points are gone, so I assume it's "OK").

I guess I shouldn't, or don't, have too much to worry about - it's J on a 763 and seatcounter is showing everything available in D & J....in fact it's a pretty empty flight according to seatcounter (but I've known that site to be slightly misleading once in a blue moon, for reasons that I do not know.....)

Little bug I experienced today.

Attempting to use OLCI via FF Login > Your Bookings > View/Change, it does not give me the option of online check-in.

Type the booking ref. in via the QF Homepage (after logging out of FF) with my surname and it gives me the option...:confused:

And they still haven't fixed that annoying mixed HTTP/SSL zone message!

tried making an online special meal request on my booking a couple of weeks ago. get an error but checkmytrip shoes the request has been made but not confirmed. Another bug perhaps?

I noticed the lack of OLCI thing myself today when looking to checkin for a flight tomorrow at 10:35am.

First tried at 10:0something today without success and thought that this was just me being a little pre-mature. Tried again later this afternoon and noted that the option was still greyed.

Followed sydbloke's comments below and now have the option.

Does this now mean that OLCI is only an option if you're not an FFer? :)

Maybe only if your "Change/Cancel Booking" page via the FF login is b0rked.

This is slight O/T (about upgrades in domestic sectors), but:

1. I think upgrades in Business are class U (as are, I think, Business Classic Awards). seatcounter doesn't show a U inventory, so which of the following is true?
a) D and J inventory can be used for U.
b) Only D inventory can be used for U.
c) U has its own inventory exclusive of D or J - you just can't see it.
Please also indicate if it is a combination of the above.
2. If an upgrade is successful, what happens to the inventory of the class paid in cash? Example: I buy a K ticket and upgrade successfully to U. Does the K inventory increase by 1?

QF52 - Standing room only!

21:25 Singapore 06:50 (Mon) Brisbane QF052

Note: An upgrade to Economy is requested. Status of upgrade will be shown 5 hours before departure.

Status: Confirmed
Upgrade status: Waitlisted

Looks like I am confirmed either standing or in with the luggage, I hope my upgrade to Y comes through!!:p
