I flew from Melbourne to Sydney last night on VA891. Originally got a Choice fare for less than $100

Made my bid for $70 - the lowest I could offer and won it. When I made the bid, only 2 seats were booked.

This was also my first time in Business Class - thought I would have a go and try it.

Nice work! And what did you think of it?

Loved the extra legroom, as well as the attention! The flight was delayed for over an hour waiting for one of the pilots, so to be seated in a roomy chair for nearly 3 hours was a bonus. We were served drinks too for longer. I will be keeping a look out for Business Class sales as well as future bids for sure!

Not sure if there'll be any sales, but $299 (until it goes up due to fuel costs/etc.) MEL-SYD one way is quite reasonably priced.

Hoping my $70 bids also pull through when I fly SYD-MEL return (got the Choice flights during their $69 sale a few months ago); I want to try the new menu but I'm too cheap to bid $80 each way when I fly SYD-BNE in a few weeks

I too got an upgrade SYD-MEL on Sat morning on a $70 bid. Quite surprised given how busy the airport/flight was with school holidays. I was a bit hungover from the night before, so the extra space to rest and some tasty pancakes was well worth it.

Booked an Amex reward flight ADL - BNE - ADL and was happy to pay $39.00 each way and upgrade to Economy X.
When offered the chance to bid for J, I decided to have a crack and offer $120.00 each way - $20.00 more than the minimum.
I just received confirmation that my ADL - BNE upgrade has been successful. With a $39.00 X refund coming my way (I'll ring upon my return and request it) I figure that for an additional $81.00 on top of the X cost it's worth it.
Let's see what happens for the return leg.
For the record, J is now showing as a cash fare of $1,105..01 with 1 seat at this price!

Unless something happens during the next few hours, today's bid of $120.00 for an upgrade BNE - ADL is unsuccessful.
For the record, I rang VA this morning and my call was answered with 60 seconds.
I needed to be transferred to another operator and again was attended to immediately.
I called for a refund for what I paid for my X seat following a J upgrade on my flight up. I was told that the refund happens automatically, no need to call.
I'm really taking to VA over QF.

Minimum bids over the last three days all unsuccessful (not surprisingly…):
MEL-SYD ($70)
SYD-MEL ($70)
OOL-SYD ($80)
SYD-MEL ($70)

Was that the minimum bid for upgrade ? This shows that there is still competition for upgrades or may be VA is happy to leave the business seats empty than to accept upgrade bids at lowest value.

I've got a bid of $90 in for BNE-MEL on a Saturday morning. Still showing 3 J seats available (including my favourite 1C). I think the minimum was $80.

Yep, minimum bid for the upgrade on each leg. All of the flights were chockers so that may have something to do with it 🤣

upgrade success on VA1090 Sydney to Launceston on 15th July for 2 seats at 70 each

quite surprised since it was school holidays until wife reminded me not many people would want to go to colder weather than what it was in Sydney at the time

Flying from Syd to Broome via Perth in Economy (work paid for my original ticket) UpgradeMe Syd to Perth starting from $300 each way and Perth to Broome is $130 each way. Has anyone flown these routes lately and had any luck? I am silver status.

The paid UpgradeMe option is purely $ based. Submit the right bid at the right price and (subject to availability of course) you get the seat. So it's really up to you as to what you think good value is for those routes. Good luck!
