I've been platinum for several years, all from discount economy as i work for an NGO/charity. As you can imagine, that's a lot of long-haul flying as you don't get as many status credits.
I was talking to a guy who said he never buys business seats because he always gets upgraded. In the last year i've been upgraded to discount economy twice. That's it. I used to get upgraded to business now and then.
Is this because I'm discount economy? Am i unfortunate? Or are other people's experiences similar. Does anyone know the logic behind the upgrades?
I never fly Cathay without at least one leg being upgraded to business.
Note: I'm not talking about using my points to upgrade. Just those wonderful strikes of generousity of the airlines.
