Anyone been u/g from Sale or Red e deal tickets????

Highly status dependent one suspects - where do we think the status (versus prayer) sits in all this?

Cheers

SPRUCE
In the last 18 months I have been op upped at least 6 times on international flights from sale/red e-deal fares (O or Q class).

I think PG may have something to do with it ...

Hi

Just reading the thread on upgrades, I realise I must be lucky. I have just returned from a trip to England with Emirates, using Velocity points to purchase economy ticket & I was upgraded to business from PER-DXB, (unfortunately had to go back to economy for DXB-BHX!) on the return trip I used my Skywards points to upgrade from DXB-PER & had no problems doing so. I only fly to England every 12-18 mths, so don't have lots of points & only Blue Skwards memebership.

Most of my op-ups on QF have been on Sale airfares or Red e-deals and I have also been op-uped on an award ticket.

I believe status plays a big part but one also needs some luck to be in the right place at the right time....

Yes I have been op-up'ed on a award flight, me and the wife from CNS to MEL via SYD last year, both legs at check in, weird.

Also been op-up'ed from J to F once from SIN-SYD.

Had may points taken upgrades but once a long time ago when i was a NB I missed out on a LAX-AKL upgrade to J, when boarded plane last noticed 14 J seats empty int he small cabin, i guess they were short of crew rto service that part.

Always keen to read others experiences...

I've had my fair share of upgrades in the first half of this year. Domestics usually.... and because QF cancels a flight either side and reallocates a heap of PAX. I don't expect upgrades when I buy a $100 fare - but its nice when it happens. Definitely status helps!

One of the weirder op-ups I got was LAN this year from SYD-MEL. There were a heap of us op-up'd at the gate... a few who were in the F-Lounge so obviously high tier but also a heap of others who had Silver/Gold luggage tags.

I wondered if it was an attempt by LAN to woo QF FF's to use LAN for AKL-SYD-AKL travel (despite the 5am flight from AKL).

The product, in my opinion, is fare superior to the new QF product on the 737's and well prices.

Last year WP colleague of mine travelling with wife NB and 2 kids SYD- LAX on Kids fly free fare . Entire family op-up from Y to J and also happened on return.

For me last year it's been 2 OP-UP's -one from Y-J (into 16A on a 744 :D) one from Y to PE, one Y to J upgrade with points, one J purchased with points, one Y to PE with points after been called by QF...

Each PE flight was in a skybed.

I'd never ask at the airport if I could have an upgrade. As others have said airport staff probably get that question 100 times a day, and they may even keep a list of pax who ask that question and give it to the FA \ CSM as a warning that the pax may be a demanding type.

Hi Coomera

Last June flew SYD - LAX brother and sis-in-law points upgrade - we have family who were able to advise whether family up or to use points - no chance without points it was the 380 so a lot more J seats.

Paid upgrade from JFK - LHR on BA. They could not pay for upgrade from LHR - HK reason cheap RTW fare. But HK - SYD point up to PE.

I WP flying F - could not arrange anything better for them - but was advised that my brother had requested vegetarian meals - the staff member advised - if you are hoping for upgrade to make your requests as simple as poss or don't make any at all.

Staff member also stated if you are prepared to be seated serparately or do your booking separately more likely of upgrade

I also agree dressing well and being high status plays a big diffence

I used to request points upgrades semi-regularly flying BNE-SYD on Friday afternoons (partiularly if it had been a draining working week), and was probably successful more than half the time, but I don't bother anymore for such a short flight.

Have had perhaps 4 or 5 domestic op-ups in the last 12 months as well. Some times I've been given the upgrade when doing my bag drop, other times at the gate. Always a nice surprise :)

WP status, and full economy tickets - I'm not sure if/how they relate.
