Opps i was in la la land !

There was no free seats on the plane in J and the CSA said maybe 1 and she didn't see any upgrades on the manifest, maybe one, so all were paying.

It seems now they do know how you get there, there was a topic some time ago about if they were aware you were an upgrade, seems maybe they do. Of maybe its the way the print the manifests in other countries.

I think they may see operational upgrades, but I do not think they see confirmed waitlisted points upgrades since they book into business/first class buckets well before check-in.

That would make sense, either way reasonably full plane. J is nearly always a sell out too/from Japan. And i guess just about everywhere else as well these days.
People in QF sydney said the MEL-HKG-LHR was almost totally full tonight ! looked like only a very few seats feww, like 3 or 4.

Why is it that upgrades done in advance are reflected on checkmytrip and qantas website, but on departure upgrades never change. Always still show as "coach" on checkmytrip?

X is economy award seats. U is business class award seats.
Sorry for going off topic!

While it is on my mind are 'T' economy award seats the ones available to QF Gold, QF Platinum and CL only?

Well made it to J class upgrade on QF93 last friday to lax.
Guess what happened?
We left 70minutes late, why would you ask?
Engineers on board
Why?'
Downloading software
not once but twice
plane took off

And guess what?
still many seats without entertainment
incuding my J class.
Moral of story read this board and bring your own entertainment.Which I did at the last minute.
I remembered DN posting of the software gremlins
In meantime the Mrs is almost to plat on the challenge.

J class LHR > SIN a week ago. after being in air 45 mins, CSM decides entire plane needs a reboot, this took 60mins to accomplish. i hate eating without entertainment, as you cant read or anything during then. granted it then worked flawlessly the rest of the flight, but i have to question why they dont just reset the entire system when the plane is being turned around, then it doesnt inconvenience pax and its ready to go.

J class SIN > PER the pair of seats i was in did not work at all, not even the safety briefing displayed. CSM decided to "soft reset" the seats supposedly 10min job, but 30 mins later still nothing. one of the other hosties then lets it slip that those seats werent working on the flight up that day and engineers had worked on it in SIN and said it was all fine now. hmm yeah right.

i was in that cabin because my upgrades came thru just to try and keep this relevant), but i was far from impressed with QF on those occaissions.

This is sound advice. I would much rather take a day flight if playing the upgrade roulette game. Go for the known rather than the unknown.
Well I ended up switching flights to QF6 on friday night at about 3 pm friday. Wife and kids had been sick and as I finished on friday so early, I couldn't really justify staying until saturday..
No chance of an upgrade and the flight was completely full.. But I did manage to get an exit row window. I forgot about the slide in the exit row which does make it a little difficult to stretch out but getting in and out of the seat was easy.
It was the first international Y trip I have had in about 4 years. I was pleasantly surprised. There was a little snack pack on my seat with a chocolate bar, packet of mentos, small bottle of water and nuts. I had the salmon in asparagus sauce for dinner which was wonderful. I even managed to get some sleep!
And, believe it or not, AVoD worked! it almost seemed like the system is loaded row by row. whn I first tried to use it, I could only get the old loop style movies. But i could see the rows in front had the full interactive system working. About 15 minutes later I noticed 'loading' coming up on my screen and 5 minutes later I had full function AVoD. I was gentle with it so it worked perfectly for the entire flight..
So all in all I had a good trip..:)

Sounds like you had a good trip. Does this mean that you would prefer international economy over business class for future flights? ;)

I wonder if the snack pack had anything to do with your Platinum status! Probably not. Would it be related to CIP?

"Snack Packs" are available in international WHY for flights scheduled over 10 hours.

More here: Flying with Us - Travel Classes - International Economy

(Select "on Board", then "Dining" and scroll down to the bottom).

While these are normally handed out after takeoff; sometimes the FA's pre-empt things by placing them on PAX seats before boarding. This saves time for them and helps the PAX if they wish to sleep ASAP.

So the "snack packs" appear to be for everyone regardless of status.

hahaha.. I doubt it.. But if you have to travel economy, it isn't such a bad seat..

Perhaps the snack pack was left over from the FRA-SIN. It may have been second hand!

No such thing as a bad seat in economy. Just think of all the people without a seat on standing room only flights.

A question about upgrade priority if anyone can help.

I am curently Gold and have waited listed 90 days out for J - F Mel-hkg QF leg of multi-sector trip. I realise Chair/Plat are ahead of me. In 2 weeks I will also waitlist for lhr-mel in J to F. However when I reach London on the outward trip I click over for the first time to Plat.
The question is will my waitlist for the lhr-mel sector then become a Plat waitlist ?

seem to remember this coming up recently here or on FT. the consensus was that it should change, but don't count on it and a phone call to confirm status probably isn't a bad idea... if nothing else ringing the plat number should give you a nice buzz :)

Normal bookings often don't "refresh" your FF status unless touched by Qantas. There are reports of Qantas going through bookings and updating your FF details when you change tiers. and also reports of nothing happening and you being your old tier for many months (when dealing with earlier booked tickets)

As mentioned already ... best to call Qantas and get things refreshed when changing tiers.

agreed. plenty of reports of people who change tiers, and previous bookings not reflecting the new status. mainly occurs when using other partners outside au. this could be a problem for lounge access if you dont have your new card yet. calling is good (i have had good service from the QF call centre in au lately. not so from the london number unfortunately).
