US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Cheers for that. If thats the case then I assume the MPM will be calculated from your return destination?

I would expect 2 separate calculations to be done. So if I flew MEL-LAX and then NYC-MEL i'd need to stay under 25M for MEL-LAX on the outbound and under 25M for NYC-MEL.

Thanks. I've been searching for CX F is particularly hard to come across. It would be even harder to get 2F seats. I know that CX tends to release the F seats close to the departure dates. Do you or anyone have any tips in getting F CX seats?

It's been noted in a few different places that CX F award space is increasingly harder to come by, even more so than QF F. This isn't a recent thing either.
Most likely due to the retirement of the 747s (9 F seats) to 777s (6 F seats and not all aircraft have an F cabin). Plus the economy is apparently picking up.. and they are also having that bidding system for premium cabins.
Even if you are looking at one year out it is hard to find CX F award seats. I've had a look at routes closer to departure and still no such luck.. When they only have 1 or 2 seats available for sale, it's unlikely they will release award inventory. But I don't work in yield management, what would I know!

I booked and travelled the following last year:

SYD - BKK - FRA (Stopover) - ORD (Dest) - FRA - CDG - BKK - SYD.

All long haul in F. Had no dramas booking, maybe I got lucky.

that itinerary is 'legal' because of the return via Europe.

If you had continued from ORD to Asia and then australia it might have come up against the SWP-EU rule.

Agrede CX F is hard to get. Of all the European destinations that have F cabin, MXP may have the best availability. Also keep an eye out for when ZRH starts.

I wonder whether change in airplane type will make difference...

Cathay Pacific W14 Paris / Rome Service Changes | Airline Route

Paris and Rome will be three class service.

Cheers for the info. Its interesting that their changing to 77Ws but then again I've checked ZRH-HKG and with full availability CX still hasn't released a lot of awards on that route. I've also spent the past hour going from tomorrow to 330 day for FRA-HKG and it looks like unless its 5-6 days from the departure, its extremely rare to find more than 1 award available (I haven't found anything).

Hey guys,

Not sure if this has already been asked (and apologies if it has) but was hoping for some guidance on my situation. I've got a J booking from Mel to Calgary with one flight NRT - BKK in Y. J availability was not there at the time of booking. However looking at the flight today and it appears that some has appeared. I've had a fair bit of luck in the past with doing a "Correction of Cabin" request but on calling tonight I was informed that they do not have access to the *A system and therefore could not assist.

Is this a case of HUACA or is this really a limitation post merger?

She gave me the choice of cancelling the existing booking and trying to re-book with OW but obviously don't want to go down that route. I'm completely happy to go in Y but can't pass up the opportunity to upgrade that leg if there is a way to do so :)

TIA

Ive been in this situation twice now, once with Asiana and once with Eva. Both times at check in i have explained the redemption was in J or F and neither was available at booking time. Both times i have been seated in J. So don't give up unless yr taxiing in Y. Both were US redemptions.

I cannot see that it is possible to book Continental USA multi city award bookings on US web site - is it a case of call up to achieve this or just non existent please?

I guess it depends what you are trying to achieve? Stopovers are not permitted on intra-zone awards.

I have to say I find that surprising...OZ and BR would be getting paid on a per segment basis...and they were getting paid (peanuts) to transport you in Y on those sectors.

You need to call. It says so at the very bottom of the Reward Booking page

For what its worth. I found 2F from LHR-HKG, since I have no use for them at the moment no points nor the timeframe in which I wanna travel in so I think it would be nice to share it with other people who are looking for it.

4/2/2015 LHR-HKG 2 x F CX

I hope people don't mind.

If you are looking at multi stops it might be worthwhile exploring BAvios. From memory 24000 avios are about $500. You can get a <650(maybe 600) mile award flight within the US for 4500 avios +1GBP. Works on both AA and US but for single leg flights only.

A revenue fare would seem cheaper and easier to me. Unless I'm misunderstanding something here.

Any suggestions for OW routing ex SYD to South America, then NA, then Asia, then back to SYD?

Or, South America, then NA to SYD via Europe and Asia?

As with all things YMMV. I am using it for a positioning flight. the 'cost' of the avios flight is about $95. The cost of a revenue fare for the same flight is about $170. In this instance it is cheaper to use avios.
