US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Thanks, I sort of thought that was probably the case, but they didn't seem very interested in looking for the flight I wanted when there were a couple of direct flights available (just not at the time I want).

Did you give them the flight numbers, times, etc. of the flights you wanted?

Unless you are really looking for just the most direct and easiest options you can get, if you aren't feeding the agents the flight information that you want, it's a waste of time.

30,000 USDM plus $26 US to go PER-MEL-PER in J saves about $3,000 off Qantas retail pricing.

Isn't there a booking fee US$150? or is that just for International travel?.

The $150 fee that keeps popping up here is the change or cancel fee.

If you make a confirmed booking, then either want to change it (almost anything about it), or cancel it and redeposit the miles into your account, you pay this $150 fee.

Naturally, most people are pretty sage here (or circumstances don't often go to custard) and will never have to stump up this kind of cash.

Just had a gander at the award terms, I see now thanks.

Also, was charged for 2 pax in J around USD$600 for booking BNE/HKG/NRT/CDG/DOH/PER/BNE does that sound about right?.

subtract $100 for booking fees, that gives taxes per person of around $250. could be about right.

If you wanted to check you could go to ITA matrix and enter in the various flights and it will give you a breakdown of the taxes.

taxes for a simple AU-HKG-USA were USD187 per person.

It was USD$244 + $50 each (booked from 2 accounts).

the only sure way would be to break your itinerary into its components (ie home-stopover, stopover-destination, destination-home - or whatever variant you have of that) and get ITA to work that out.

A rough check on ITA shows that your charges are about in ballpark.

The highest contributors to your taxes (anything over USD 20) were:
  • Australian Passenger Movement Charge
  • Australian International Passenger Service Charge
  • French International Passenger Service Charge
  • French Solidarity Tax (contribution to eradication of global poverty)

Does anyone know what the eTicket is meant to look like? I've got my flights coming up and I can't remember which document I am meant to print LOL

you don't need to print anything.

if you want a record, or it you might need it for immigration, you can print the summary from the U.S. airways page, that will have the ticket numbers on the bottom.

I need it for proof of having an outbound flight within my visa period. I will print that page, thanks!

Is there anyway to check an on hold booking using the PNR? Without using the USAirways website.

I've got a booking on hold however it is missing an important leg of PER-KUL - Agent says it there but I would rather see it in writing before ticketing.

you have nothing to lose. If the agent says it is there, but it's not, you can cancel or change free of charge. (it should show on the USDM site - but if the agent can read it back, no reason to not try ticketing)

Ok much appreciated. Just a shame they can't find the flight that shows up on BA! Can only see one PER-KUL flight a day, not the 0230 departure. I even asked them to check the the day before.

Currently looking like MEL-PER(overnight)-KUL(overnight)-CAN-KUL-ADL-MEL

A bit of a long way but it's for next weekend so may have to go with it unless I can find anything else.

A little extra radiation never hurt anyone outside of Japan and Russia ;P

Great to meet you yesterday too!

Calling for collective wisdom here:

What are the chances of redeeming something like this:

SYD-MEL/PER-DOH(stopover)-MIA(destination)-wherever I can get seats to - SYD?

In F/J

I know about usual Australia- Europe(stopover)-USA-Australia routes; has anyone tried to get a stopover in the Middle East? I'm thinking it may be problematic as it isn't on the most direct route...any thoughts?

SYD-MEL/PER-DOH(stopover)-MIA(destination)

It (SYD) exceeds 25M by about 750 miles so I'd forget about it. MEL might work.

Start your journey in PER instead. They might knock you back on the basis of their new 3 IATA zones excuse.
