I know how far I can push an intra region award in SWP- just wondering how far I can push it in North Asia too

Question.
My wife is in the process of changing her passport (and thus her last name will also be changed). Hungarian Passport.

I'm looking at booking a BNE-BUD ticket for 2 in August next year.

Can I change her last name (as her passport will have different surnames) once her passport turns up?

Book the ticket under the details you know will be in the passport at the time of travel.

To all whom may help me. May I ask 2 questions.

Is openskies airline redeemable and if so can I fly into CDG and out of ORY from AU en route to East coast USA?

And

Would SYD/MEL-HKG-MXP(stop)-MAD-JFK(dest)(or wherever east coast) fall over MPM?

I floated MXP and CDG and my better half forgot London existed and now wants me to make that happen.

I have not come across anyone who has claimed an award on openskies. So I don't know.

But MXP stopover would be allowed if US Airways flies there in its own right (ie stopover at a US airways destination). AU->MXP->JFK would be fine for MPM.

You may run in to problems with agents not allowing itineraries with stops across multiple IATA zones, but if they allow it (and the only thing you can do is ask), you would be charged the Europe rate rather than the USA rate.

Your return home would also need to be via Europe, not continuing from the USA to AU.

Thanks very much.

At this point the plan is to try ticket SYD/MEL-HKG-MXP-MAD-JFK(stop)-HKG-SYD with the MXP-MAD-JFK and JFK-HKG-SYD a dummy booking. Wait for the window to open and make MXP a stop and change the dates for JFK-SYD.

I understand this will be a few phone calls and a bit of time investment both of which i'm ok with, but this bit about not being able to continue west to come home might change things a bit. I don't mind the route home so maybe i'll have JFK-DOH-PER-SYD/MEL as a back up.

All in J hopefully.

Good morning fellow AFF community members.

I am thinking about signing up to expert flyer. Does anyone have any experience using this tool to search for award bookings using US DM miles? Just wondering if it was a better method than combining JL, Qf and BA searches.

I had a paid Expert Flyer membership but found it not very helpful for OneWorld award. Not all airlines are supported, in fact very few are.
I personally find AwardNexus must superior for this purpose

Thanks Sergeyvzn.

Does anyone know what the current fee for expedited booking is?

Also early reports were the CX availability tended to be good if you were prepared to leave it late (-30 days). Does that still hold true? I am looking at late January. Happy to fly into anywhere in Europe except LHR to avoid the tax. So pretty flexible.

Doesn't have to be Cx. qf up to Asia is fine and the JL perhaps?

expedited booking fee is $75.

I wouldn't expect CX to open at 30 days... maybe 14, and more likely even closer in than that for F class.

There seems to be a lack of CX availability atm into and out of HKG. Your connecting flight might be easier to find - FRA and AMS can be good ones for availability.

$75 dollars for tickets issued within 21 days of travel

End of January doesn't seem too bad, for example I could see two J seats out of Sydney to Milan on CX for a couple of days at the end of January. Some need to route via MEL though i.e. Syd-MEL-HKG-MXP

Many thanks for the replies.

Interesting about MXP. Is CX what people are using to get out of Syd? I am only looking for J if that helps. I tend to be a buy and book straight away kind of person.

Will look at signing up to that service recommended to search for more availability.

Not necessarily only CX, you may be lucky and get a Qantas seat or two, or JAL. MH is also a possibility but now they only release 1 J seat per flight

QF availability is pretty hard to come by. That leaves CX and QR. But CX has better opportunities with three, sometimes four flights a day from SYD/MEL, and double, triple or quadruple dailies to many European ports. You can also try and connect to CX from ADL, BNE, CNS.

I don't subscribe to any paid award services. The QF tool is free and will show you a month at a time. JL is free and good as a second reference point. (Also BA if you happen to have it.)

If they were on CX site probably not available to USDM, find then on say JL & BA then your in with a chance.
