US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

Thx for the very helpful suggestion. I am one tiny weeny step away from booking the whole thing. My god, it has been hectic..

So, the small roadblock i have is no J availability for 1 for NRT-ICN on 27th Apr. Even in Y. Any reasons the wise heads here can think of?? I guess I can open jaw it and wait to see if something opens up and then book it and pay the change fee. If not, buy the 1 way flight.

Can someone tell me whether JMB allows one way redemption or do they charge like USDM (one way same as a return)? If possible to do 1 way travel, is there any way to transfer to JMB via Amex MR or SPG etc?? And would it be worth the hassle??

Speaking of that. Almost every day has J availability for that JL flight up until Apr 23 which is 98 days from now. Maybe you just need to wait 4 days and it will show up? Availability drops off to 0 from that date so it could be a JAL peculiarity (I checked through BA) or it could be just busyness for weeks but I doubt that. Someone with more knowledge care to chime in?

Yes one-ways are allowed with JMB and you can go via SPG (in turn via Amex MR points to start with).

Thank you. Do you know how many miles for 1 way NRT-ICN? I'm on the JMB search tool but it's rather hard to navigate..I seem to only be able to do rtw flights and not one way..

15K in Y, 30K in J and 50K in F.
Just a hint, I googled "Japan Airlines Mileage Chart" and it was the first hit ;)

Hello AFF!

Just need some advice/recommendations. I've posted on FT but the more heads the better!

'So doing a bit of rejigging... Considering that there's no DXB-DOH or DOH-DXB during July or late Dec, Would you guys recommend leaving it as an open jaw? I was thinking SIN-DOH(openjaw)/DXB-LHR-PHL-SJU?

There is an alternative but I don't think its particularly realistic, DOH-SIN lands at 23:20 and the last DOH-DXB flight leaves at 23:59PM. I don't even think the agent will allow it to be booked. Open jaw I guess?'

I think this may not work.

First, I assume after SJU you find your way back to SIN, right? Otherwise, whilst it is not illegal (won't stop it from being booked), but one-way awards are charged exactly the same as a round trip award.

Secondly, an open jaw can only be at your "destination" point, i.e. the further point away from your origin. In this case it would likely be SJU. But you can't "open jaw" the itinerary in the middle of the journey (inbound or outbound). At least, this is my understanding of the rules.

The minimum connecting time at Doha Airport is 1 hour (this is the lowest for all flight pairs). A layover time of 39 minutes will likely not be ticketed.

Yep. Its back to the drawing board. Sorry, I should have made it more clear. That was the return segment for my rt from SJU-SIN-SJU. Its really hard to find the availability.

Edit: Would it be okay if my dest was SIN and an open jaw departing from KUL?

The "destination" is almost always defined as the furthest point from your origin. You can't just arbitrarily select any point along the way and call it your "destination".

That I understand. SIN is further than KUL. When guide mentions
The distance between the 2 open jaw cities cannot exceed the distance of the outbound or return trip. Itinerary restrictions may apply.

Does this mean that xx_-SIN and KUL-xx_ cannot exceed SIN-KUL? or do they mean SJU-SIN and KUL-SJU cannot be exceed by the distances between the open jaw cities?

Ah I see. Sorry I misread and your origin is SJU and not in Asia. My mistake.

The guide's rule basically means: if your origin is SJU and you open up at the destination SIN / KUL, then the itinerary is OK as long as the distance SIN-KUL is not larger than SJU-SIN or KUL-SJU. Which, of course, it is not, so that is fine.

have you tried looking for Royal Jordanian for any flights? Might help you plug some gaps.

Excellent. Appreciate the help. Planning this is definitively not easy especially when all the J US seats were fixed tonight. Lots more to work on. Hopefully I can actually post a completed booking in the other thread soon!

Actually no but I'm concerned that eg: flying HKG-AMM-DXB would be considered backtracking. I'm trying to get to DXB to get on QF1/9 to LHR. The worst thing is that QR doesn't have anything from DOH-DXB v.v after the 15/12. Either I have an open-jaw eg: CGK/KUL. I really would like to try to get to DOH to have a look at the DOH F lounge so CGK may have to do it. Otherwise after the 15/12, I would have to fly SIN-HKG-DXB then to LHR then getting back to continental US would be a pain trying to find non-BA seats.

it depends on what your priorities are for the trip.

I thought you were mentioning an open jaw for sin/kul... both of which RJ fly to. and would take you to london or the state with one stop on AMM.

Indeed. I don't know anymore. This is driving me up the walls. Today I called US and was 100% set then US said theres no seats on QF1 from DXB-LHR. I don't even know how that's the case when AA/BA both show space and QF on KVS shows but the website doesn't.

can you book KA on US?

I noticed that earlier (the QF1) and was thinking you'd have to be pretty lucky to secure it! I would trust the QF website for availibility of QF flights.

I haven't heard you can't book KA via USDM. It's certainly bookable via AA so I can't see why not USDM.

(I checked and most of them are QF. Even CX is showing 2 seats on QF1!)

Man.. any chance these flights are coming back or is it wishful thinking...?

QF1 departs at 2am...could be that old issue? Perhaps ask them to check Dec 14?
