US Dividend Miles - Award Booking Questions and General Discussion

What sort of dates are you looking at?

forthcoming public holiday dates which is no doubt why there's no availability! :)

i can see a way back from DEL, but can't get there at the moment. i guess i could use krisflyer or another program's miles to get there and base a return from DEL, but i'm not sure i'd be rushing back in a hurry, plus there's the added what ifs with the merger etc.

hmmm - an extra 24 hours of flying to get to GUM to save a few dollars, which you would then lose by having to get a separate ticket to india from bangkok? that would be dedication!

Nah, all good - only read the bit about BKK, didn't see the India bit! If going to India then it changes everything and GUM not really relevant :)

Search individually legs and piece together your trip. Search for SYD-BKK and then BKK-DEL, there generally should be availability :)

I presume that by forthcoming public holiday dates you mean Straya Day? If so then I can see avail from SYD - BKK in F for 2 people on the 25th on the 10:00am flight. You'll have a forced layover in BKK to catch the 7.35am flight for BKK to DEL on the 26th but that should tie in quite reasonably I would think. Hope that helps!

thanks - yeah i ended up playing a bit and look like i might be able to do it via SIN on LM and then use USDM for a 30k biz TG SIN-DEL via BKK, which in my mind is ridiculous value even though reading through the hundreds of pages here suggests even better elsewhere!

nah, actually easter. looks like no availability on thai to BKK that whole week. thanks for looking though!

On reflection we're fortunate in Australia in that we can travel to NA and Europe via Asia and Europe.

Hmmm, going to Europe in April and will be doing a bit of hopping about the place, even with the use of some trains 5 flights on Easyjet adds up to over $500... I know its not the best use of USDM miles but can economy redemption with Europe for 25,000 miles and with some of my miles bought at close to 1 cent could make for a cheaper series of trips using a USDM redemption to maybe see if i could score a couple of stopovers like people are with GUM in SWP, plus i get to fly nicer airlines than Easyjet... Yes i know there is also the $50 booking fee and a few taxes... I think doing the same flights with like LH or others and it would be getting up towards $1,000... I put some flights into the Star Alliance Europe Air Pass and it came back at $1,500!?!?!?!

Anyone think of any cheaper way to get around Europe (OW air pass??) on some decent airlines??? Flights maybe like Santorini-Milan, Nice-Paris, Paris-Malaga/Lisbon and then one of those back to MAD for the flight out... Have used skyscanner to try to check for cheaper flights but they are usually coming out at about $120-150 which i know is reasonably cheap...

You're not really going to get any cheaper than that with luggage.

So, here's an odd one:

I'm due to leave for my GUM trip later this month and just happened to check my original booking that I booked many months ago. One of the legs from my original booking is UA135 NGO-GUM. Checking flightaware etc it says UA135 is KIX-GUM (not NGO). I've just checked my booking on united.com (as the operating carrier) and it says we are booked on UA136 NGO-GUM (same time and date I thought I was on just slightly different flight number), and checking my booking on the DM website it now says I'm also booked on UA136.

Is this okay to leave it? We want to (and expected to) fly out of NGO. Should I contact UA just in case?

you will contact USDM not UA.

you need to make sure that any schedule/flight change has been correctly ticketed, and the new ticket number (or the old one which may have been validated) has been pushed to UA.

it would be best to call USDM, get them to look at the booking (in particular the UA136) and ensure they have done what they need to do. this is as simple as 'my flight number NGO-GUM has now been changed, has that been correctly reflected in the ticket).

your underlying ticket (as opposed to your reservation) may still be on the UA135. that could cause problems.

Hi All,

So I have received the email from USDM for myself and +1 and I have (through a mixture of calling and online selection) chosen seats for each leg of the journey.
Is that all I need to do to ensure the ticket is confirmed?
I have a mixture of 6 letter/number codes for the trip (from USAirways as well as TG, UA, OZ etc) - are these the PNR codes?

I have read through so many peoples experiences that things weren't confirmed that I thought I would check if there is something else I should do.
Cheers

ideally yuou want to make sure each airline has the ticket number. otherwise you run the risk the airline has a reservation, but no payment for it. no payment can = cancellation by the operating airline.

having a reservation, including a seat number does not mean the airline necessarily has the ticket number.

Has anyone ever seen any F NH availability from europe?

I want to experience the product, and can only ever see chicago.

Haven't checked any availability from Europe but I'm booked in for a flight to europe from NRT in a few days :)

So even if I can login and see 'confirmed' on TG's reservation system, it doesn't necessary mean that ticket has been issued (already got ticket number from US)?

the simple answer is no.

the best way to confirm is to ring the airline and actually ask them if they have a ticket number against the booking.

Although with the new TG system you can also retrieve your booking on the .com site by entering your ticket number (not the .au site)

the issue is that while USDM may have issued a ticket, and while you can pull up your reservations on various websites, unless you are absolutely sure that the other airlines actually have that ticket number, all you might be holding is a reservation rather than a paid reservation as far as those other airlines are concerned.

while it is not so much of a problem with TG, a friend of mine two months ago had this problem... USDM had amended flights to cut out a stop in ZRH, but had failed to push the ticket number to the new flights.

It is more of an issue for airlines such as OZ and SQ to double check the ticket number.

Thank you very much for your reply. I will call TG to confirm tomorrow.

So I contacted TG and was advised:

1) I only need the ticket issuing airline's e-ticket number;
2) Incorrect DOB information in reservation doesn't matter (it will be corrected when you check-in).

I still asked the Rep for TG's e-ticket number, just in case.
