Hi,

I think it might be Aeroplan, as I just checked that date 22/03 for 1 pax J Bkk to FRA and there is still none showing:( Might have to invest in KVS

Plunge ! you never know when the 100% will stop and the if the dollar drops more you'll kick yourself :)

Yay!!

Do I take the plunge now or wait? Not planning to travel till Jan 2013....

I'm in the same quandary.

I've only just got back into employed work, disposed of the baggage I had with my last travels.

At current exchange rates, it costs just under AUD 2000 per 100,000 miles (net).

And my consideration actually isn't more about my travel, but rather.... my parents.

I've always wanted to treat my folks on some sort of premium trip in their life; my vehicle to that was, of course, not a straight-cash-ticket one.

It does mean a minimum AUD 4000 investment from me, however, and that is now. And of course, that's not enough for even a J ticket to Europe let alone North America (110k for USA/Canada, 120k for Europe); and would it be too much to ask if I could aim to give them an F ticket each... :o

Decisions, decisions.........

Decisions, decisions.........

A great decision to have to make :)

Personally, I still haven't gone on my first US DM trip (Hurry up July 6th!)

The problem I have is that I have cash saved up for this trip to europe but want to spend it on these 100% promos again!

Recently took my Mum on her first J flight, she said "it was the best thing I could've ever done for her !"

I would be very, very hesitant to look at this program for US trips only - I think the AA Buy Miles would be a better options across the pacific. The direct AU-US pacific flights are on very average legacy carriers and I think just about the only way to get there on a good carrier (i.e. Asiana) is AU-BKK-ICN-US which, while it may sound fun to us, may be very tedious for parents etc when they know they could get a direct flight.

I think the real value lies in Europe legs because there are a few different options and carriers particularly when there are more than one airline that flies from a particular hub city to a particular hub city (i.e. BKK - ZHR). Of course, if you are doing a round the world trip to get to US it's a different story and you can get really good mileage out of the deal (I still don't understand how they allow you to go to NYC/IAD/SFO etc via Asia and Europe when there are direct flights on United!).

Here's a handy map showing all *A hub cities. https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=...-114.351212&spn=178.271305,193.359375&t=h&z=1

The single best part of this deal for me (and I think I have read this entire thread now) is that you can ring up and hold a DM redemption before you even buy the miles minimising the risk you will be stuck with points you cant use.

I also really like that there are some unusual carriers I wouldn't think to fly on that fortunately to fly from their hub to another *A hub (like NH and AC for example).

I'm very, very keen to take my first punt on this but a bit scared that I won't be able to get the flights I want (ita a straight forward, but complicated process to book!)

Hi Hummel I hope you will do a trip report in July as I am on same flights in F three weeks later:) Particularly hope they upgrade first on LH from FRA-ICN, was even thinking of changing to Munich to make sure as they have all been done.

I'll be sure to take plenty of pictures :) It would be nice for new F but really booked to could give FCT a shot, i'm sure the old F will be sufficient... it's still 13 hrs at the front end :)

LOL I looked at the Whisky menu from FCT and sent to my mate who is a Connoisseur of whisky and he still isnt talking to me and believes it will all be wasted on me! I told him I might be a little wasted but I wouldnt waste the whisky:) I have also taken up the free hotel offer for half a day before coming back to FCT for lunch:)

Hi JCB where are u heading? Was the extra seats on Thai?
Heading to London in mid-July on Thai, so it was a fairly risky strategy from my perspective banking on the points coming through in time and there still being seats available, but it all worked out very well. I reserved 1 seat on the flight on the first day, then 2 on the following day in Business, then when I checked on ANA etc. later in the day it was again showing 2 available on the first day, so I phoned up and we all got moved to day 1 without issue.

I've had to change the return date for my trip (wife and kids are staying a bit longer than me), but that now means I get to fly on the new 747 config in First out of Frankfurt :-D (fingers crossed for no aircraft substitution!). Cost an extra $560 for the additional points, but I think it'll be worth it.

p.s. the new 100% bonus promotion is now live on the website - I just purchased the extra points I needed.

Tell me more about the half day hotel thingy? :) I'll be stretched for time as it is so just going to get there around 3 hours before.

I love a good single malt :D

Question...(Sorry, l know it's been asked before in this thread)

If l were to purchase US Dividend Miles, I think there is a 3 year expiry on the miles.

Can l extend the miles buy purchasing more miles?
And/Or - what is the cheapest method?

There is a rolling 18 month requirement for activity, so as long as you keep doing something they stay valid. I think there are some cheap online shopping ways of getting a small number of points, in addition to things like hotels, rental cars, etc.

as bofter points out it's 18 months. but buying more miles counts as activity I think.

in any event, there is an option to pay USD9 and they extend your points for another 18 months. no need to worry about shopping etc.
