only date for the direct was 6 Dec. So he might be flexible enough for that. Otherwise it's via asia to get there which would be many many huors additional flying and connection time.

Re: Go for f if u can......

and F gives you the ability to eat quick and go flat :)

Does eating knock you out ;) Usually alcohol does it for me, need quite a fair bit of it though :)

J pax do get spa access, ableit only the 30minute head and shoulder rub.

If your friend can't afford to spend $2.5K then he really shouldn't be going at all. A regular economy ticket to Africa is always around that ball park figure, and there are no Jetstar, Tiger or Scoot airlines to get him there cheaply either. So fwiw $2.5K in J is a bargain.

no, these days don't need food or alcohol to knock me out :) but after flying the 9 hrs from AU I just want to get on the bkk to Europe flight, have warm milk and cookies and go to sleep! in biz you gotta muck around while they do stuff, and are kept awake while your fellow pax clatter away eating :(

Hi Hummel,

Have u had any luck with FRA-ICN F? Is it still the old F with LH? Look forward to your trip review as I am following your flights in 4 weeks.

No luck at the moment but I'm sure we'll manage! Checking the seat selection of LH site there is only the lady and I in cabin at this stage

Re: Go for f if u can......

Hi,
Anyone know the best number to call US Airways for award reservations, I have used via Skype the free call USA number +18004284322, but lately I've been waiting 30mins and still no pick-up by the agent. (this is after passing the automated voice system too). Have you had this issue lately?

I tried this at midnight last night and also at 9am this morning (Syd time).

Do you know of a better number to call?

thanks heaps

that number is the one I always use. I generally call around 9pm eastern time AU and get through almost straight away.

I have called them three times in the last two days (to make a booking, change a booking and then ticket). All calls were answered in a minute or less. Once the auto prompt comes on, say 'award travel', then as soon as they start the 'well let me help you get started' spiel you just say 'agent' and then you go through.

He will have to fly via BKK if he wants to leave from Sydney - there is no way to get to Perth on *A.

I agree if he thinks $2.5 K is too expensive he shouldnt be going - this is one of the most expensive air routes in the world. If something stuffs up with his tickets (i.e. a leg is cancelled) he will be expecting you to fix it, and not to have to payt a cent more.

It frustrates me to see posts like this because it sounds like your friend simply wants you to get him a J fare to JNB for less than a regular Y fare. This US DM offer exists for us because we have all spent a huge amount of time researching the offer, learning from others experiences, learning the strict rules and the complicated booking process. This is why we are entitled to it. If a friend asked me how I was able to afford J travel I would send them a link to this thread and tell them to start reading, I would NOT be doing it for them.

So I have a friend who wants to fly sydney to south Africa in December what's the cheapest J option life miles or dividend miles? He doesn't want a stop over as direct as you can get. Im
not a life miles member as yet but planning to join shortly

As an aside, I crunched some numbers on US vs LM on what seems to be the most popular sector - AUS - EUR return in J. All amounts are in US$

US Air Dividend Miles - 120K miles required

When bought with a 100% bonus (i.e. 50K free) = $1750 + $700 = $2450
When bought without a 100% bonus = $1750 + $1750 + $700 = $4200

Avianca Life Miles - 170K miles required

When bought with max pay (60%) min points (40%) and a 100% bonus (i.e. 34K free) = $1020 + $1301 = $2321
When bought with max pay min points without a 100% bonus = $2040 + $1301 = $3341

So, obviously it's much cheaper to take advantage of the 100% bonus buy miles offer each program has a couple of times a year. However, it seems like, for Europe at least, in both circumstances, Avianca is slightly cheaper. Note each program has very, very different methods and rules for booking (US does not allow one-ways, must be done over the phone, can create long, complicated indirect itineraries if you have the patience and knowledge of how to do so where as Avianca can book one-ways for 50% of the return price, can do the entire thing online but will usually only allow the most direct, logical routing).

YMMV - both programs have their good and bad points - I'm just extremely glad we have 2 to choose from!

Works out to cost 2c/mile for the bonus miles which isn't as good as the 1.75c/mile on the 100% bonus promo.

When they have so many 100% buy bonus offers a 50% transfer won't win me, would have to be 75% at least. But 100% is what I'd really love to see again!!

Couple more pictures.

Sorry, the blinds were down and I don't have the best camera for 'night' photos, LOL.
Only 2 pax in F, me in 2B and old mate in 1A
The amount of room, to me, is worth the extra points.

2nd meal sering about ~2 hours out of BKK. The first meal starter I can highly recommend, Caviar and DOM (nom nom....lol)

Cauliflower Soup

Pork Noodles

Also, as most of us know, intra-Europe J is a joke. LH J, the only difference was I got a meal and Y didn't. EXACTLY the same sized seat with middle blocked.

(Mods, if this is too OT, please feel free to move it to a new thread)

For whatever reason I don't find TG F catering that attractive.

I think anat0l would agree with you that it is rather pedestrian.

Have to say that OZ catering is fantastic. They have the best steak in the sky. NZ is also pretty good. SQ is not as good, but still much better than TG. Of course I haven't tried European/NAmerican J/F yet, so the bar can be even lower.
