Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

If USDM are going to sweep at 1-1 then buying now and stocking up several hundred thousand miles would be a great idea with the annual limit imposed by AA, especially seeing they only tend to offer that 60k+30k (other AA offers are even worse value) at like the end of the year or the start, which is pretty inconvenient for anything that is planned a long time ahead...

But again, always a risk stockpiling that amount of miles unless you are a pretty frequent flyer and unless you can be sure of the exchange rate to AA...

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

I doubt the sweep conversion will be formally announced until just before the DM program closes, and I would bet there will be no more DM sales in the short time between the conversion announcement and the DM program closing.

I personally don't think it'll be 1:1 as the US program is far more generous than the AA program, and as the AA program is much much bigger I doubt AA will want to disadvantage their members by bringing in US members with such healthy points balances just to benefit the smaller pool of DM members. Remember OW has fewer airlines, with less routes and therefore less availability.
I think it will be 1.25DM : 1AA or 1.5DM : 1AA.

Thinking about bmi and BA. bmi was about as generous as it gets, albeit they didn't sell nearly as many miles as US. bmi miles were transferred to BA 1:1...heck they even comped Diamond Club Silver (a nothing status really) to Exec Club Silver - a One World Sapphire level with partner lounge access etc. My bet is on 1:1 as I think the earn / spend through actual flying is pretty similar on both. I don't think US's shady mile selling past could really be publicly used as a reason to reduce the conversion ratio.

it is on official record buy the CEO that it will be a 1-1 conversion.

as I said before... lots of other more important things to be worked out like how they are going to equalise top tier benefits.

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

I was thinking of buying DM miles last year but really didn't like the booking process (compared to UA and QF) plus with members leaving *A.

Would I rather spend time chatting to US's lovely phone agents than paying massive fuel fines for QF redemptions - absolutely!

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

Yeah if your request is pretty straight forward the US phone booking can be simple and painless, its more when you try to stretch it, like i do, that it can become a bit painful... But the obvious better deal/value makes the extra time on the phone soon recede into distant memories...

Can't hurt...sometimes silly things happen and you may get credits (though treat this as unlikely, not expected).
Not with SQ but UA I had exactly this happen. Trip to US via USDM on UA, I added my UA #. Flight was late, ended up with 17.5K points for inconvenience plaus ~ 4 K for a flight for myself and my wife, i.e. over 40K points all up. So now I always try and record the "local" points number against the booking. Plenty of other reports of this too, though you should regard as abonus rather than expected.

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

Just wondering... looking at the 'Buy miles' section on the US Airways site, it says "The maximum number of Buy and Gift Bonus miles that can be received by one member for this offer is 50,000 bonus miles. All miles purchased beyond this limit will not be eligible for a bonus"

Anyone know whether that means max. 50,000 from buy AND 50,000 from gift? Or is it a total of 50,000 of either buy or gift? Sorry if it's a basic question... I'm just starting the juices flowing on perhaps my first ever US Airways experience here to try and help Mum and Dad get to Europe!! I'm wondering to get the 120K miles they need, can they buy 30,000, then get a bonus 30,000, then I can gift them 30+30k as well to make it up to 120, or is that going above the limit?

Thanks - really appreciate the input!

Agreed, and let us be clear, it's a merger not a takeover, the US FF members are also part of the merger and should be appropriately taken care of.

Also, as a *G you will get an extra 20 kg on top of any gazetted allowance (or 1 extra piece if on the piece system).

Better seat selection - not necessarily. It's not a gazetted *G benefit, and more on a carrier by carrier basis. Besides, if you're in J, is there really an awful, awful seat that you desperately need seat selection to avoid?

I just rang TG to try and add my *A SG number to some existing reservations made through both US and AV. They said they cannot add a number because there is already a number there (my US or AV number) and that THEY could not remove the number, I would need to call US or AV to get them to remove the number, TG could then add any number I wanted.

This isn't such a big deal for the J bookings I have made but I have made some Y AV bookings that I would like my number added to. Will removing my US or AV number completely screw up and cancel the booking? Is it all way too hard?

EDIT: LX and TK could add new number, TG could not. HUACA with TG?

i wouldn't bother for the tg bookings... there is no benefit.

cannot advise for the LM bookings. will having a star gold number assist with better seating for the Y bookings? otherwise again I wouldn't be too concerned about it. they can always add it at the airport at checkin.

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

Sorry - hope it's not hijacking the wrong thread but the other US miles one seems a bit quieter atm and was keen for some input... and all being well this will turn into a 'SUCCESSFUL award booking' in the coming days...

If you posted it in the other thread people would answer. For these current promos I am aware of people who have bought 50+50 and also been the recipient of gift miles also with bonus.

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

Thanks heaps bcworld - I think I'm learning a bit about timing too since I posted in a quiet time on the other thread  Good news though about those bonuses!

Re: US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

My understanding is that you can only receive 50,000 bonus points from either, YMMV.

Yes...I would be careful about it. But I've definitely had reports that of total bonus > 50k.

Yes - but I think he means you can buy 50k for yourself, then gift or share 50k to someone else. That works just fine. FWIW, sharing is the cheapest way to do this assuming you have an account that already has 50k in it (or for a slightly higher cost, you could buy 50k in one, then share to one and share back.
