Thanks to the replies guys.

Why don't you fly from FRA to BKK?

I am booked into F 388 on that that route ;) My mate who is meeting up with us in MAD/IBZ/SPU can't seem to find much availablity for a C award EUR-BKK in September, so thought he could SPU-FRA with us, have an overnight transit like us, and then head to BRU where he could fly back to BKK then SYD. I'll get him to give USDM a call later today.

Ok, helping a friend out.

What would be the sensible way to attack this itn?

SYD - TLL - LHR - SYD

Depart - 11 Sep (flexible)
*inter travel in Europe*
Return - 12 Oct (firm return, earlier might be better, 13th return to SYD latest)

Anyone?

SYD-BKK-FRA-TLL-FRA-LHR-BKK-SYD?

Alternatively

SYD-BKK-IST-TLL-FRA-LHR-BKK-SYD

Haven't checked availability but would start there.

Here's an interesting one with availability on September 11:

SYD-PVG - Air China Business - 3hr 35 layover
PVG-IST - Turkish Business - 5hr 35 layove
IST-TLL - Turkish Business

TLL clearly isn't a valid stopover en route to London. If it was me I'd just book an open jaw - preferably into LHR and out of TLL to avoid UK APD unless the order has to be TLL then LON. Get a cheap Easyjet flight from TLL-LGW.

I was just about to post this - you'll prob be a bit bored with a CA daytime flight but the TK leg to IST is their very best 777 J product and the 5 hour layover will be in one of the best J lounges in the world. I'd definitely be going for this.

Im not seeing any TG A380 options to FRA or CDG.

I assume TLL is a stopover with LHR as the dest? It might be hard to swing as Im pretty sure it's not a *A hub and having as the dest with LHR as a stopover would be massive backtracking.

Im seeing slim picking coming home....

I actually think the TK lounge is overrated. Yes it has some cool things, like a kebab station, pide, etc. However it's no different from anything you could just get in the street. The lounge is a zoo and often hard to find somewhere to sit, let alone relaxe......... Each to their own.

That said, the seat and service for a J cabin is decent enough.

The pictures of the TK lounge make it look like it is huge; you'd be hard pressed not to find a spare seat. Maybe it's a case of when one arrives at the lounge vs. number of flights (particularly intercontinental) departing, but....

TK has a kebab station, CX has a noodle station, NH has a quick noodle bar and CA has dim sum so poor that would put a Hong Kong yum cha establishment out of business in three hours. It's a gimmick, but hey, anything for some variety.... :)

That's exactly it... yes, it is huge, but also are the number of flights in/out of IST. Just wait till you have to enter the country and need to purchase your Visa .... flying business aint going to afford you any priority there!

Such a shame TK got rid of F.

TK had their own F lounge which was smaller than the J lounge and many said it wasn't as nice as the J lounge (not by much, mind you), but it was a more private space and quite acceptable.

Also, on arrival in IST in F, you were met as you stepped off the aircraft and ferried by buggy to immigration so you can beat the crowd. And that was besides the chauffeur service.

Ahhh... days gone by and I missed my chance to try TK F.

Immigration is still quick - it's the visa on arrival that you can't do much about (although I understand now they're starting to allow certain countries to purchase prior?).

Ah I was there when it was pretty quiet. Did you play pool? ;)

What's the refurbed 747? Is there much difference?
9 mini suites instead of the usual 10 older seats in F.

It's regularly shown by seat maps as being the operating aircraft for TG472 SYD-BKK - the reality seems to be very different though - only once in the last month was this flight operated by the refurbed aircraft.

What's the refurbed 747? Is there much difference?

Much difference between what? In First class the refurbed 747 is similar to the A380, enclosed suites (no door) very different to the open layout of the other 747's. In Business Class all 747s are now similar except for one old All Series still floating about which should be refurbed very soon. Unfortunately the flat bed seats Thai has in Business Class on their A380s and 777s aren't rated for the 747 so they have just put in the same angled flats they have on lots of their other planes.
