If you don't pay the 120 per ticket then US may cancel the tickets if they ever audit the account. it's not worth the risk.

And what happens when US "insists" that the mileage charge is correct?

For my SYD-BKK-IST//FCO-BKK-SYD I rang up three times, spoke to different folks, and they insisted that 120K was correct. I pleaded my case and they told me to literally not worry about it. I even sent them an email (names, time, number) and a written letter - no response naturally - ready to argue my case if the ticket was cancelled etc when I acted in good faith to try and fix "their" problem. [side note, the above sectors have been flown - so all is good]

I can understand the 90k from alanlegals experiences with the European part being the stopover and Asian stop being the destination. But the 110k? I can't figure that one out.

Have a different route hold on to your seats
SYD BKK NRT (stopover) NRT FRA MILAN. Returning
CDG BKK SYD

I'm about to call them to confirm and purchase the miles on the phone , get your popcorn out

That is an open jaw with a stopover - not allowed - rates desk may not allow it.

I'm assuming your NRT 'stopover' is 24hrs plus.

Shanye2233, good luck with your booking. Not only do I see a stopover in Tokyo and open jaw MXP//CDG, there is also a 5 segment outbound. I gave my mother my popcorn maker a while ago (it was a Christmas novelty gift) so I shall go drive the Alfa out of the garage and go grab a chicken kebab with the lot (taboulli, homus and cheese), bbq and chilli sauce, and I shall be back a bit later to hear the outcome.

Got rid of the Merc? ;)

That's the old man's. I now drive a shi**y Alfa - I have to start it up now and again to ensure it turns on when I need it

Oh did I mention that the horn recently just buzzzes non-stop, so I had to pull out the fuse, hope I don't see any slow moving drunks on the roadway, it might end up messy OMG

On the phone for 4 hours lucky using skype great idea but you need a wireless connection or just drops out . All flights are invalid routes and wasn't allowed. Agent and supervisor said should NOT have been put thru so we set up a new iteniary . Ready

SYD-SIN-HND(stopover)-NRT-FRA-MPX and return
MPX-BKK-SYD

Also the flight NRT to FRA is on the airbus A380 good or bad I don't know but sounds good.

The people working for this company have no idea about their company policies . This again is a 90k trip in J . I have three seats ticketed and infant is lap child which is allowed if original flight is before 2yrs as the agent told me at Thai airways. Anyway when the wife wakes up and is happy with everything I'm going to purchase the miles and ring to pay. If they tell me the 90k is incorrect I want a full refund and compensation for my time wasted. Again all conversations are recorded .

The taxes on this route is an unbelievably $90 per person

Thanks Shayne for asking all my questions (currently putting a trip together myself).

I would've probably asked everything in the one post...however I am liking the real-time aspect of your postings

Inspired by Alan, even though I am booking J, I will make sure to ask for F upfront just in case I magically get a points discount

Go for it ! Nothing to lose costs nothing to place ticket on hold. My mistake I think is that I didn't have the miles ready or it would be brought by now.

the rate desk does not usually get involved (unless there is something peculiar about your booking) until you are about ready to ticket - it goes from the operator to the rate desk and then it is finally confirmed.

So any operator can set up an itinerary, that does not mean it is a valid one.

You know perfectly well that the itinerary you want is 120K, not 90K. Even if the phone call is recorded, they have the opportunity to pick up the mistake and price it correctly. There will be no compensation, and there will be no refund of the miles you have purchased. The award chart is clear and that is the cost that you should ultimately expect to pay. You are being given business class tickets for less than the price of economy.

The best advice to you is that in order to avoid any problems down the track, especially if US decides to audit accounts, is to ensure you have paid the correct price.

We told you that original routing was invalid with a stopover in Tokyo and then open jaw MXP//CDG

I like the ScAirbus A380's :) Biggest commercial planes in the sky, new, comfy, but fitted with (imo) faulty engines but then again I will fly them any day and actively seek to fly on them. If anything seriously bad happens, I'll make it down into the history books.

Anyway when the wife wakes up and is happy with everything I'm going to purchase the miles and ring to pay. If they tell me the 90k is incorrect I want a full refund and compensation for my time wasted. Again all conversations are recorded .

And do I get a share of your compensation too? Last night I went out and bought a $9.00 chicken kebab hoping to read more about this booking process of yours - you did imply to hang around, get some popcorn, get comfy - and then there was no response until this morning.

Haha well I didn't think it would take 4 hours. Yes invalid because open jaw and stop over so I took away open jaw and they still told me two stop overs so I had to re route thru Singapore. I have been told 90k and $90 taxes and infant no charge.

If they decide to increase my tickets to 120k I will tell them but I'm not going to give myself a heart attack. But for infant if they change the price I wont be going.

I don't like flying thanks for the faulty engines :(

Once I have the miles in my account and I call what happens from there ?

I have no idea what I'm doing so I can't be confusing anyone.

To give an update regarding the quoted miles etc I rang today to confirm everything and they told me 120k miles and invalid route. Now for anyone else maybe ok hang up. But for me I have been booking hotels and we all have no passports and I had to get the loan approved from the bank , basically they said too bad.

Until... .

TBC

of course this should come as no surprise to you as from the beginning you have been told on here the required level was 120k per person for business class. :)

did they tell you why the routing you had was invalid? is it because you are flying into and out of two different airports in Tokyo? (and are they considering that an open-jaw?) otherwise I thought the route was valid.

you have a lot to organize... unfortunately passports are very expensive, as is travel insurance.

but the good side is that if you need to leave it until next year, the price for the infant is not such a deciding factor. I think you said it was about $1300? that is compared to buying a full business class ticket through the miles of about $1600 odd plus taxes...

If I leave before she is two I don't a dollar with the pricing I was given. If they don't honour it I will wait until next years yes. It's a huge difference here 60k worth of miles and $1500+ in taxes I would total that close to $3,500.

I sure as hope you haven't booked any hotels. Your new route looked fine but they could have got confused with the two different airports in Tokyo. As I have said in pm mate I would have been going for the simplest route possible for your first time travel. Syd to bkk then bkk to a port in Europe. 2 flights, minimal changes and hassle.

Mate I hope you have done a full budget, Europe isn't a cheap place And it worries me you are planning to do the whole trip on borrowings and are in a bit of a rush.

Keep plugging away.
