This thread is getting a little too comical.

You cannot book SQ flights via Star Alliance partners on the 380, 77W and 345. Aeroplan may show seats but you will not be able to book them via USAirways, United, BMI, etc......
I am booked on an SQ A380 SYD-SIN and have pre-allocated 11K upstairs.

As above I too could have booked A380 in F. The flight was SYD - SIN -MLE . On aeroplan the flight is a SQ232 I think from memory and I doubled checked the flight with Singapore airlines and it said a380 and the agent also confirmed this.
I Was checking other options because the Europe one is a bit of a rush rush. As for hotels I'm pretty prepared I'm buying points and using them to stay. The miles high priority club points trick .

I actually was talking directly to a blogger yesterday and I ended up informing him about the us DM miles program. He wanted a J SYD-AKL

Definitely not.

Had he a zealous or just "dumb" agent, I suppose it could be possible. Probably not best to crow about it (lest many people getting very agitated about it) and possibly be prepared to be rebooked and refunded as necessary (not nice, but would require regulatory / legal intervention to make right).

This anat0l content, if it must be known,
Was sent via Aust Freq Fly app, but not from an iPhone.

I only mentioned it because other poster did I'm not fuss about the aircraft as long as I have lie flat beds. Which I don't think any of my flights have , until TG on the way home.

On my issue I'm waiting for a phone call from us DM at 9-10pm when the bosses arrive, I'm excited ;)

I'd be more than shocked if a US agent could see inventory in Suites let alone think about booking it.

Oh sorry I got confused I ment J business class not a suite not first class.

You can check aeroplan

yep but I've been following it nevertheless, hoping to see suggestions on Sydney-FRA/DUS itineraries in J. Maybe via SIN ICN or NRT on Asiana, Lufthansa or SQ or a combination thereof.

Anyway when the wife wakes up and is happy with everything I'm going to purchase the miles and ring to pay. If they tell me the 90k is incorrect I want a full refund and compensation for my time wasted. Again all conversations are recorded.

To give an update regarding the quoted miles etc I rang today to confirm everything and they told me 120k miles and invalid route.

I thought you were going demand a full refund and ask for compensation for your wasted time? [And yes I am claiming for my $9 chicken kebab].

But for me I have been booking hotels and we all have no passports and I had to get the loan approved from the bank , basically they said too bad.

Woah, no passport? no confirmed flight tickets? no holiday loan? and you are already booking hotels? I hope they are cancellable without any penalties.

This thread is getting a little too comical.

It sure is, and I thought the VA forums was going down the creek.

Yes it is possible, see FT / SQ threads where a limited amount of A380 flights SYD-SIN vv are bookable with *A partners.

What? Now you want to go to the Maldives? Which resort did you book? Because I will be there on the 18/11 with 3 nights at the Sheraton Maldives, but am open to suggestions for the remaining nights I am there. Everything is way beyond my price range but oh well, I'll sell the Alfa if I need to.

For your situation, if you want to route via ICN, NRT, I would deliberately choose a date where there is zero available for SIN/BKK direct to FRA purely because a well versed agent may quickly look it up and see SYD-SIN/BKK-FRA available (and generally TG has plenty availablity BKK-FRA) and say, sorry there is a direct route which you must take (and end up playing agent roulette). However if you choose a date without any available SIN/BKK-FRA, then the routing via ICN,NRT becomes more favourable for you.

Possibly something like this SYD-SIN(sq)-BKK(tg)-ICN(oz)-FRA(lh)-make your way to DUS or wherever)-NRT(nh)-bkk(tg)-SIN(sq)-SYD(sq). So you get to try SQ,TG,OZ,LH and NH.

I give you some good and bad advice Alan. I was going to stay at the park hyatt Maldives.

I PM the details for you.

I read it isn't the best there but ;)

Foreigner
From looking every night for 4 hours I have found that availability is mostly found on TG. I never been o.s so I'm trying to experience as much as I can to the places I like. Also air china shows up a lot and asian then a lot of LH once your over there.

For checking availability I found the aeroplan to be excellent for newbies especially me being a couple of cans short of a six pack. I looked at the Ana tool and spent too long trying and trying and the KVT tool the same. I'm sure If you can get it to work will be more benefit.

As for US DM miles I have downloaded the tool bar and use their search engine I think it's giving me 1mile per search plus 500 for the toolbar. I have also signed up with audience rewards which adds free miles and joined a couple of hotel loyalty programs and car rentals . There is suppose to be a grand slam promotion happening at the end of the month which I think a lot of people are waiting for if you want to check it out.

One of the reasons I am looking at this thread as well but I am afraid if I blink I am going to miss any useful information.

Some of the posts here belong in a different thread....

Appreciate those suggestions. Tyvm.

Are there ideas for travel ex-Sydney to the US, maybe via Asia or elsewhere in J for 90k miles?

South Pacific <> US is not 90k in J. It's at least 110k according to the chart, not sure if you would be charged 120k for via Asia.

I have a trip booked on Thai MEL-BKK-LAX-ASP//DEN-LAX-BKK-MEL. 110k in J. For Jan next year.

I know it is a bit of a longer trip but I have family in Thailand so have arranged the connections with a night in BKK to catch up with friends and family.

You can nearly go anywhere you want in Asia from SYD for 90k in J, so hard to recommend, depends what you want!

Well, some people have suggested that Almaty in Kazakhstan or Pune in India are about the best value from Australia IF you get an agent to play along.

The only way you can get to these places is via Europe but they are in Asia (90,000 miles). eg. Pune (PNQ). MEL-BKK-FRA-PNQ - only LH fly there. ALA is via IST with TK.

Personally I just booked for two people in J MEL-BKK-MNL-SIN-MEL. We have 7 days for a short break before our work gets crazy so for seven days it was worth it. We both had some SPG miles and other stuff to throw in so total cost was about $2500 for two. A damn good deal really.

Just be aware that 11K is not a good seat on the 380.
I shall be naive and ask why?

Is it an economy seat? Does the flat bed slope backward? Does it have restricted leg room?

I am not fussy on seats. I like being in the first row in any cabin. Makes me feel special. ;)

Not sure about SQ 380's but 11K on QF 380 has a power supply - one can be "politely requested to move" for another PAX who needs a power supply for medical reasons.

Is that the only seat with a power supply?

Anyway that is not the issue. It sounded to me like 11K was not a good seat to choose and there are better selections.

Going through the JohnK black book and I have never sat in business class on SQ so I cannot tell you what is or what isn't a good seat. Once I have tried SQ business class seat I will be able to have my own opinion and advise others.

Someone else's opinion does not make a seat good or bad....
