Can anyone think of a decent First Class routing to Asia? I would like to go SYD-BKK but I am also open to other cities as destinations and can pick up a chep airfare to BKK from there.

SYD - BKK on TG F is incredibly easy to get, you'll have no worries finding seats.I just did it on Wednesday & it was superb!

TG exSYD to BKK.

Singapore Airlines very hard to get a seat, might be able to score one on a 777-300 regional or 747 (ex MEL depending on when you are going).

Which other star alliance airlines do you think have first class out of australia to asia?

Also confused why you would fly to another city and then pick up a cheap airfare to bangkok?? Why would you not include that as part of the ticket, even if that sector has to be in business class?

Absolutely no idea.

Think QF Platinum status requalification! ;)

After reading the first half of this thread my head is spinning! And I thought I knew something about travel!!!

So... a quick question for clarification... I'd ideally like to do OZ-USA(stop)-Europe(dest)-USA-Oz but that seemingly isn't allowed any more/wasn't ever possible..

So... in order to achieve a Europe stop on the same trip but AFTER the US visit I'd need to do an open jaw Oz-USA//Europe-Oz.. which was suggested on about page 25 or so as viable and at the 120k level...

Is that correct? THANKYOU!!! ;)

Read sombol's itinerary a few posts above. He managed to successfully book a NYC-Europe-India-Asia-Australia and return routing in F, so it would only be logical that you can do the reverse. The only issue I may see for your proposed AUS-USA-EUR-AUS 1) if you try to Australia to USA and (savvy) agent may try to route you back the same way and deny you coming home via Europe. It will only be 110k in J and 140k in F for AUS-USA award. I'm not sure where you are originating from however with a simple route say eg. SYD-BKK-FRA-NYC-ICN-SYD, can increase your booking probability.

From Australia direct to Asia, there is only SQ and TG that offers F. OZ and NZ do not offer F cabins to/from Australia or at all respectively. It would be tough to get onto SQ F so it looks like TG F is the only viable option that you have.

Using miles and *A? If yes maybe TG F.

If you want cheap business class flights for QF requalification then you want to originate travel in either TPE or ICN for chea cathay pacific flights.

You should then consider a routing SYD-BKK-TPE/ICN on TG then fly onwards from there (or back to Bangkok).

You can look up the local country sites for Cathay Pacific for both korea and Taiwan to have a look at the business fares they are offering.

I haven't told anyone about this deal in fear that it could only hurt my chances of finding availability.

I currently have on hold for 72hrs a flight from SYD to Europe then to US in J , but only two seats I was quoted 110k plus $188 taxes. I pray that another two seats open up then it's in like Flynn

Wow this thread look amazing.

I have trawled through alot of it and if anyone has researched it can they let me know.

With the current promotion where you can purchase 50,000 miles and get 50,000 free etc.

Approx how many points would it take to fly ADL > AKL > LAX > ORD > LAX > AKL > ADL on Air New Zealand & United (just the LAX to ORD return portion) in Business and approx how much would that cost from scratch?

Cheers in advance if anyone can help.

You obviously haven't read too much about it as the answer to your questions would have popped up numerous times.

Aus-US return is 110k in J, will cost you about $1850 all up starting from scratch. Good luck getting those flights on AirNZ. They seem to realease seats about 2 months out though if you are willing to risk it and buy a ticket at the last minute if you can't find availability.

Cheers for the quick reply. I did figure out the 110k points but I didnt find the approx cost with taxes, cheers.

I'll read the whole thread tonight.

Hitting up the ANA search, found a great couple of flights getting to the USA with AirNZ but finding it difficult to find airfares back.

Anyone got any suggestions for getting back to AUS from USA happy to go the 'long way' around.

You've really got to read the whole thread...I know it is big but consider it 'study material' with the graduation being confidence in getting very cheap J/F travel on world best airlines.

(Eg. I have about 20 different routes bookmarked on Great Circle Mapper that people have managed to book to remind me of various routing possibilities!)

Reading this thread in full is cheating and like reading the Dummys Guide to US DM Awards, you really have to go read the entire FT thread and once you read that .... I think you would be very ready to book anything.

This is a pretty damn well kept secret. I spent a good 2-3 hours last night planning and hit the call centre last night.

I have SYD-SFO-ORD all in first, getting home is a b*tch though. I had it ready to go ORD-MUC-BKK-SYD all in first also but the ORD-MUC got booked at the last minute.

Amazing to thing you can get 5 first class flights for a smidge over $2k effectively.

SYD > ORD United
ORD > MUC Lufthansa
MUC > BKK Thai
BKK > SYD THai

Now looking at going ORD > SEA > ICN > SYD back with United & Asiana.

Hard yakka but it seems worth it if you can fluke the right flights.

Hi all,

Many thanks for the great thread. Have been reading and studying for a while and am thinking about getting ready to book something in the near future maybe. I am in the process of organising an itinerary for June / July 2012 touring Canada and a bit of the US. I would like to route back through Asia somewhere and was thinking of spending 4-5 days in Tokyo at the end of the trip. Other alternatives would be through Hanoi in Vietnam.

Current plan is:
Syd - Vancouver (Own travel ending up back at Vancouver)
Van - Tokyo (seems to be no direct so has 1 stopover - maybe Calgary on Air Canada which I think is causing the issue on aero plan)
Tokyo - Syd (Asiana)

Has anyone managed similar routing? Air Canada is showing availability on AeroPlan but then having trouble getting the return trip through Tokyo. As soon as I select the middle flight, it wont allow me to select the final. I dont think this is a problem as long as there is actual flight availability.

I know aero plan isnt perfect but I wanted to have my ducks and plans in a row before calling the call centre to placehold some flights.

Any help appreciated.
