One last question.

How did you check availability on LX?

Once again well done. You got great value from your miles.

Hey sr81,

I found the best way to check LX availability was to simply call up and ask. I called up 3 times before my booking call to check. They don't take your dividend miles number so just ask away. Expertflyer and M&M availability wasn't right at all.

Enjoy!

I experienced issues with LX availability as well... does not really match up with what is shown on M&M or expertflyer.

Well done, peachy!

Still some reports of LX awards not really matching up with availability at US though.

I can confrim this. LX awards are not even to close to what US Airways was telling me.

I used this method with four people in my syndicate with a total of 400,000 miles received after a start from 0 for all members.

From this we have reserved and ticketed:
• 2 people return in first from Australia to JFK with a FRA stopover
• 1 person return in business from Australia to JFK with a LHR stopover
Plus:
• 1750 orphan miles
• 90 day trial Silver membership (this will expire but worth it for the extra miles)

Including taxes, fees etc. I work this out as about 1.46 cents per mile. Not totally awesome but very happy with the result from a zero balance and no residual costs. We were also looking at going away so this fitted nicely. It allowed me to buy points and book immediately, which is imperative with a scheme like this.

Hopefully something like this will crop up again about October so we can jaunt to Europe again in the Northern Summer.

Very nice sr81, I had ignored this promotion as I didn't think there was any point if I didn't have points to start with - seems I was wrong! (makes note to do proper calculations in future)

Let me know if you want anyone else in your syndicate, I'd certainly be interested in joining :)

Just a quick heads up:

F availability on the LH A380 NRT-FRA is very open at the moment...

This is back baby.

Just intime for my trip to Vegas, not booked flights yet.

The current promotion is the 15th November cut off date.

Already bought and spent the miles on a F trip to London sigh. Easy come, easy go :)

Ditto. Just waiting for the bonus 25% to post then getting the MEL-BKK-CDG RT in J on Thai paid and ticketed.

Even managed to find seats on the 77W that TG is borrowing from Jet with the fully flat J seats.

Cost is about $100 more than the early bird sales in Y.

Well done on the 77W. They are handing those back next year when they take delivery of their own new metal so a good call whilst you still can.

Anyone hear of US air canceling bookings or points for this promotion? There was discussion on Ozbargains about it and they said it happened to several people...

From that I read there have been reports of very isolated incidents of some people being audited by US Air. Frankly, with the amount of people who have been discussing how to maximise the points by creative use of accounts, gifting, transfers and so on, I personally find it unsurprising that a few people may be pushing the envelope of miles maximising so to speak.

I've ticketed 4 F returns to Europe so far with no problem at all. But then, I've played the game to the spirit of the promotion, haven't created mythical accounts to gift from or had my fictions son book an award for me.

I have now ticketed two J and two F rewards but with each case I put the miles into an account and it was that account that travelled.

I think people were getting into trouble because USAirways was thinking that people were buying points then selling the redemption seats for profit.

I think that so long as you play this in the spirit of the game then you will be fine. Don't be greedy and certainly don't try and overplay your hand.

HI Guys,
I was thinking that the following may help with USAir and their promo. Not saying this is the best way, it is just the way that works for me.

The process for booking is very simple but will take some time. Note that this process assumes for two people.

1. Open three USAirways accounts using a promo code to gain bonus sign up miles. Accounts must be open for 12 days before you can gift/buy miles.
2. Wait 12 days.
3. Check that the dates and class of travel are still available.
4. Call USAirways (+1800 428 4322) and sign the third new member (who is NOT travelling) up to a 90 day trial Silver Preferred membership. This will cost USD 215.
5. Wait one full day to ensure that the Silver membership is active. Check on the website to see.
6. Check again to ensure dates and class of travel are available.
7. Once the Silver Member is active call USAirways (+1800 428 4322) and request a redemption booking for two people with miles being taken from two different accounts who are the travellers.
8. Work through each individual leg with the USAirways agent. This will take time and it is often necessary to be very specific with what flights are wanted. Having flight date and number is useful information.
9. Once all flights and legs are confirmed then place the booking on a 72 hour hold.
10. A booking reference number will be given. DO NOT lose this reference number.
11. Immediately login to USAirways and gift/purchase the required miles.
a. The Silver Preferred member will gift each traveller 50,000 miles, which after a 125% bonus is applied, becomes 112,500 miles in each travellers account.
b. Travellers directly purchase 4,000 miles (which will get the 100% bonus applied making it 8,000 in the account) to top up their account.
12. The miles will post within 72 hours with 120,500 miles in each account. .
13. Once the miles have posted correctly in each travellers account then call USAiways (+1800 428 4322) to confirm the booking by quoting the reference number.
14. A booking can only be held for 72 hours. If the miles have not been posted by about hour 68 then call USAirways and get them to process the transaction, have the gift miles receipt handy.
15. The agent will quote taxes and fees.
16. Pay taxes and fees via a credit over the phone.
17. The agent will confirm the flights and read terms and conditions.
18. The agent will confirm reference numbers (one for each traveller). Ask for reference numbers of the airlines being used for travel (e.g. Thai and Lufthansa).
19. Thank agent and finish call.
20. Go to the USAirways website (www.usairways.com) and check the booking via the Manage Reservation function. Ensure that the details match what was agreed over the phone.

This process should take about 4 hours excluding waiting for the miles to post. The USAirways call centre is open from 7am to 12am Eastern US time.

Scale up to get 150,000 miles for First class by simply buying 19,000 miles in point 11b.
