Not sure we are totally disagreeing here. The Terms and conditions specifically don't allow on-selling so cancellation in this circumstance is totally reasonable. But friends and family is a different kettle of fish, if we find a way to do this for some mutual benefit that does not involve exchange of cash difficult to see how US under the T&C's as they stand and the fact that they are advertising the Gift Registry as a way of giving points to friend could then claim you can't. I agree that we should stay within the rules absolutely but just think the rules as they currently stand specifically allow buying flights for friends.

because the membership guide is much broader... it says members may not sell, purchase, barter, exchange or broker...

barter is pretty big. again... unless it was something like a wedding gift, or buying a ticket for someone to receive medical treatment or to attend a funeral, where you would just give them thousands of dollars for nothing in return!

I'm quite sure however that if you were doing something simple like you buying the ticket and your frie d paying for hotel accommodation that would probably be fine... but the risk is there that until you get your chance to pit your side of the story forward that your account might be closed. the meantime. and you could lose your tickets!

Good find but have just checked myself and it says "Members may not sell, purchase, barter, exchange or broker award tickets or offer to do any of the foregoing". Note it does not mention miles and given the Gift registry page at https://www.usairwaysgiftregistry.c...ation.html?p=usairwaysregistry&f=registration says they can buy point its either misrepresentation or friends can buy miles.

"You set your mileage goals and watch your friends and family help you get to the trip you want. Anyone can purchase miles for you and have them automatically deposited into your account. "

yes I know! I am quite sure that if it was a legitimate ticket purchase for a friend then no problem. BUT the reports on ft are that us is starting to audit again.

while it may all work out in your favor... the anecdotal evidence is that an FTer, with just one ticket purchase in a friends name, had their account closed and audited.

their ticket was cancelled in the meantime.

the other thing is that a travel agency would probably not go to all the trouble to set up a miles registry for their client. easier for the agency just to buy miles in their own name and then on sell to the customer.
as I said... pretty sure it would all work out in your favor... but just not worth the risk of losing the seats. better to buy miles in your friends name, then purchase the tickets form their account directly. gets around the problem.

I had exactly the same issue and ended up having to use two cards to buy points on four accounts so it seems to be a USAirways anti-fraud measure.

As a sidenote I had Amex on the phone this morning querying whether I had authorised the two transactions where I used my Amex card. Apparently the purchases were billed to "points.com" according to Amex and they wanted to know if I had authorised two circa USD$1500 transactions to this site and why subsequent
purchases were being denied.

After I explained they were happy to clear the transactions.

This thread nearly needs to be split off into a couple of different ones (especially next time a promo comes around). So much of the important stuff regarding bookings is lost in the pages. We nearly need one thread for discussion and another for successful bookings or something along these lines (maybe others have better suggestions?).

It is just that things such as someone getting 5 J seats on Virgin Atlantic (which is meant to not be possible) has just got lost in the pages whilst all the debate about family members and the like goes on, they are just such differing topics that it makes it hard to find the exact information one wants.

I have also noticed in my short time here how often the same questions are repeated again and again. The way it is going (with the frequency of these promos) US Dividend Miles nearly needs it's own forum on the Airlines Programs page.

Anyway just seeing what others think of trying to make the search for information for new and oldies easier.

I flew qantas today SYD to BNE I hate flying had to take a advin. However it was much better experience then previous jetstar. I also has access to the QP in terminal 3 I liked it and I said to my wife imagine when we fly overseas and we get to experience some of the best lounges/ aircrafts / amenities really got us excited. On another note I didn't seat my seat and we both sitting next to the toliet 56d e f how nice for us so still things to learn.

What I would like is a say top 5 airlines to try to fly with and top 5 try to avoid.I thought TG J was way better than OZ J and I thought singapore was the best. The order I had in terms of lounges seats service amenities was
1. SQ
2. TG
3. TK
4. LH
5. NIPPON.

And try to stay away from the armerican airways like continental ,OZ OJ etc I think there US domestic doesn't offer J so u have to sit in C or your sit in F and have your whole inteniary be priced at F.
I had a awesome route but then when paying for the taxes I got put on hold then told again invalid .
SYD-BKK-CDG-ZAG-FRA-LAX-NRT-SIN-SYD

This is the route i want and when I get the extra miles from the GS I will pay. ATM I have 400k also my citibank called me after the 3rrd transaction asked me if I'm purchasing something from the US and my bank issued amex cancelled my card and got SMS telling me to contact bank immediately

I agree, I read this thread often and would love to see a thread of it's own. Seems to be quite a few different subjects falling under one thread.
would love to see a 1. successful routing thread 2. thread for questions 3. general discussion or at least number 2 & 3. There is some valuable information happening & some interesting questions but it's getting lost in repeated questions etc.

not sure why you keep putting itineraries on hold? unless you have the miles the itinerary will expire after three days? or are you planning on just buying the mile outright if you get the seats you want?

the miles from grand slam take how many weeks to post?

did they tell you exactly why the itinerary above was invalid? I think maybe because you cannot travel from Europe to Australia via the USA? (given that Europe is your destination)

the order or star alliance airlines, in first class, would be SQ, LH (especially with the new seats coming in) LX, OZ, NH/TG in business class then you are looking for full flat beds. the airline of preference will depend on the equipment they are offering. I would take a united airlines full flat bed over an angled lufthansa bed any day. service and food might not be as good, but neither is arrived tired at the other end.

air china will be offering full flat beds in business class from next year, will make it exceptionally comfortable. service is fine... and you don't need that much service when you are sound asleep :)

There is nothing invalid with that routing if you pay for the Round The World award fare.

Agree that we need to split things up. Two threads. 1. USAirways Successful Bookings 2. Discussion and Noob Info.

Maybe even put sometime into a USAirways sticky. I think between a few of us it could done pretty easily.

Anyway - Can the previous poster come back with further info about 7 seats and 5 J seats including VS. From everything I have seen getting 4 seats is hard but that number is amazing.

About 2 years ago I asked a US agent about Qatar and VS HKG-LHR and was told economy only.

There is a workaround:

1. click on the ANA International Flight Awards button

2. enter a random ANA international route that is guaranteed to have flights, e.g Tokyo Narita to Beijing, leave the dates and passengers as default

3. when you get the results the Use Star Alliance Member Airlines button right down near the bottom of the page will now be enabled

4. click on that button to search

I'm lost...how do I go about this? I've registered as ANA mileage club member and cannot get the screen where I'd like to see availability for award Star * seats. Three pax. If I see availability then I can call US Airways to see if bookings can be completed.

Do a search for flights between NRT and BKK.

When the results are displayed the button to user Star Alliance member airlines instead will be enabled. Click it.

You can then change the city pair to any 2 cities and check *A availability.

Got it! Thank you BCWorld.

I know this is very short time but can anyone suggest itinerary for *A award booking for 3 pax SYD to FRA, out 06/10, back 13/10. Need availability in business.

Thanks.

TG, SYD-BKK-FRA would be the obvious choice. But a quick search on Aeroplan for just SYD-BKK shows absolutely nothing on the availability calendar for 3 so you could be out luck.

The most obvious would be syd-bkk-fra in tg I think. Providing there is availability.

I can see availability for SYD-ICN for 06 oct on OZ. Then I can get no further. I don't mind any other European city close to FRA or DUS. DUS preferred. Well, if I can't get anywhere, I'll use $$$ instead of miles.

Failing SYD-BKK , SYD-ICN is avail for 3 but can't find anything to connect for a quick search.

use aeroplan (air canada). If there is anything out there for the complete route it will find it.

If you really need something air china might have good availablity. Or turkish.

Aeroplan often still doesn't show up longish connections if a shorter connection exists (even with no availability). Still best to check individual sectors.

I am aware of that.

However the poster was unable to find individual sectors so the suggestion was to look on aeroplan to see if it had any suggestions.

even just on ICN-Europe...
