What do you mean not confirmed, the linked page is the US Airways site! How much confirmation do you need!

If you take the time to read what was being quoted it's glaringly obvious that the comment was in relation to the possibility of US changing redemption rules, imposing new taxes & surcharges...nothing to do with this promo!

I think mine and bcworld's comments about not announced but always possible were in relation to an earlier post from edison about the possibility of taxes and charges going up and redemption rates changing... Yes the fact that the amount you can buy has been reduced is probably a positive indication that they won't be changing redemption rates, just releasing fewer miles and making more profit on the sale side side of the equation by increasing cost per mile...

And yes, maybe US Air saw JohnK's despairing post and wanted to improve the quality of the back and forth banter with a new offer... :p

OK, I admit that my eyes do glaze over somewhat at speculation that redemption rates will change. I have actually read through this post end to end at one stage and some of the similar FT ones but you do reach a point where you start to get blase about the constant speculation that redemption rates will change. Aside from speculation that the Wallabies will finally manage to win back the Bledisloe cup I can't think of something more often speculated about with no apparent depth to the story. I suppose like many things it may eventually come true but I'm not holding my breath just yet.

look, even if redemption rates increase, wouldnt you want to buy the miles now at half price rather than later when they are full price??

even if they doubled redemption rates, 300k miles would only cost $5250 plus taxes (buying them during 100% bonus time).

an amazing deal regardless.

Ah well i am more of a value traveller, and tend to look for the cheaper deals... I've never flown J or F (and would probably not die a broken man if i never did) and not sure i can ever see myself splurging for F but at reasonable buy and burn rates I was looking forward to some J for the first time and maybe a mixture of Y and J in the future... With the cost having gone up now, and then if the redemption rates went up (sorry burman) as well.... And then fuel surcharges potentially...

As 1 J ticket starts to get towards the price of two economy tickets actually purchased that earn FF miles i will start thinking long and hard about the program, but that is just me...

Ah hah... Will grab more miles with this offer. I'm sure the revenue from sale of miles must help the airline's cash flow. Sharing the spoils with partner airlines would be another matter though.

Yes, we all have to make our own decisions but for me that is a lot of if's and potentiallys! For me with the Grand Slam and this I can get to Europe for under $2K in J ($260 for 40K Grand Slam and ~$1400 for another $80K here), that's still value in my book. But appreciate we all rate value differently.

Well part of the real beauty as i see it as that 60,000 points bought at 3.5 cents (during 100% promo), plus the 7.5% tax adds up to $2257 plus throw in a few $100 taxes and charges gets it near $2500 for an award in J, that probably works for me if i can do the trip to Europe with a stopover then in either the US or maybe down to South America etc... If they ever stop that ability to go two continents and it was a flight just to Europe or just the US etc, it would pretty much lose me... But its ok, I will use a combo of J and Y flights, paid and award in the future...

And no JohnK, don't have to have a US address, it helped to change to a US address with a few of the hits for the Grand Slam, but an Aussie address is fine and you just sign up on the US Air website...

PS not sure if i'd have the balls to do it, but the buy ticket, buy the triple miles and then cancel the ticket still sounds good at 1.2 cents per mile or whatever if someone here can confirm it can be done...

I think this is the first time I've seen them advertise a buy/share/gift promo in advance...probably someone in IT jumped the gun!

Promo details now pulled from the US buy/share/gift homepage!

Sucks eh... Although was there a drop in September wasn't there and then a bounce back a bit before i bought... Lets hope sometime during December Europe can get its act together and we have another bit of a bounce back above 1:1...

They Released the info about the up and coming promo to find out what we would do with the 40k capped . What work arounds we can come up with. They also did this just before the GS and then changed the rules so people couldn't do multiple car rentals among other things.

I also recieve emails with specials on deals with flights ,etc earlybird specials and I did see a OZ special for SYD to Europe in J for $3995 + taxes . So if as Mel-traveller said they double the rates 300k to Europe I don't see how this still would be such a great deal. If the price of a Y ticket is $3,000 and we can get a F ticket for $3,000 then it's worth the headache and hassell. I have miles left in 4 accounts I think about 50k in one and the other 3 about 30k each I'm not sure what to do with them. It's not worth transferring them into one account I was thinking about PPT but availability is a joke and my wife tells me I have a big mental problem always wanting to go on holidays
