Excuse my ignorance but is this a buy 50k and get 50k promo? I read the 50k limit as including the bonus?the points also look like they dony post for a while.

I clicked to get around the 1 million points competition and managed to sign up without a phone number. I couldn't see anything in the US Airways T&Cs for the bonus 50% to say that you needed to sign up through the offer. Indeed it appears that if you are already an existing points.com member you would also be eligible.

the terms and conditions just say that you need to be a member of points.com.- existing is fine.

If you buy direct through US Air website, it doesn't seem to be a buy 50k get 50k (which would be 100% bonus) but just a 50% bonus so buy 50k and get 25k so gets you up to 75k miles, but if you go through points.com it is 100%... I went to points.com (of which i am also a member) and there wasn't anything jumping out about this offer on the front page??? I really do find it a cough site to be honest...

When l clicked on the points.com link, from inside the US Airways website, this is what l got.
I guess this is for joining points.com and be in the running for the million points promo.

Then l clicked on the T&C's (below)

those restrictions come under 'who can enter', so is only in reference to the prize of the million points.

you are not entering anything to get the bonus miles...

Just wondering if anyone is in a similar position to me. I am looking to take advantage of the other for me and the oh. However when we propose to travel we will have a little one who will be 6 months old. How can I get them onto the same ticket and do I need to set up an account for them and purchase miles? As they are 6 months they are an infant and will just be on our lap but not sure how (or if) i can ticket them?

not sure how (or if) i can ticket them?

With great difficulty!

Some friends have done this. First of all unless you have all the miles in one account you will be on seperate PNRs.

You will pay the cash fare for the infant and US will probably struggle to come up with this number and it will change with every person you speak to. My friends were quoted anything from taxes only to over $2000 for the infant fare (return to Europe). In the end I think they eventually paid something like $1200.

I think the infant will be added to the PNR with one of the parents. Perhaps after that call the operating airline to see if the PNRs can be linked. I assume that must work as despite travelling with a 6 month old and on an award booking, they were all op-uped from J to F on the TG 77W FRA-BKK...very lucky!

Per USairways.com:-

[h=2]Get up to a 100% bonus when you buy miles (up to 50,000 miles)*[/h]Want to earn up to 50,000 miles for free? Buy miles March 15 - April 15, 2012 and enjoy a 50% bonus. Then, register your Dividend Miles account with Points.com and earn another 50% bonus – up to 50,000 miles in all.

OK.. how/where on point.com does one "register" the US account?

EDIT: OK... stupid me.. Must be via the "add programs" section... not real happy at the "buy - THEN register instruction".. but too good an offer to pass up...

So what is the current total cost if I want to get 120,000 miles for a trip to Europe in J? (all in USD)

100,000 miles = $1750
20,000 miles = $700 (No Bonus)

Taxes + Booking Fee = $200 Approx

Total = $2650

Does this sound about right?

Just add 7.5% tax on the purchase of miles. So $1,750 * 7.5% = $1,881.25

yup, that's about it :)

(edited to add that alanslegal is right about the tax, but with the aud at it's current level it kind of off-sets that nicely)

Does it say how long it will take for the additional bonus points to be added to your account after signing to points.com?

I assume you buy 50k points through your DM account, receive the bonus 50% automatically and then the additional 50% after they match your DM account with your points.com account?

More hoops to jump through...

Edit: Answer in the T&Cs:
The 50% bonus for purchasing miles will be awarded at the time the purchased miles are posted to your account. You must be a registered user of Points.com or join Points.com during the offer period to receive the additional 50% bonus. The additional 50% bonus will be awarded before June 5, 2012. Offer available for Buy miles only. The maximum number of combined bonus miles that can be received by one member for this offer is 50,000

No points have showed up in US Airways yet, it's been 2 days.

Just checked the confirmation e-mail and read this: We received your request to transfer Starpoints® to USAirways. Please allow up to four weeks for the transfer to be completed.

Four weeks!

I signed in using my Facebook account so I never saw any T&C about requiring the US/Canada number? Where is it?

So not to gloat or anything but I just made a booking MEL-BCN-MEL and the taxes+booking fee were $192. So I was pretty much spot on the money with $200!

How did you route?

Significant savings can be made if you can avoid the UK or at least avoid departing the UK on a longhaul premium sector.

The other higher charges are some of the ports within the German-ish block, which have notable airport and government charges (e.g. for noise abatement or environmental impact).

Given that fuel surcharges are almost non-existent on US DM bookings, a final sum of around $200 - $350 for a return Euro itinerary is probably not unusual (plus the booking fee for US DM). My total ancillary was about $250.
