So, we're looking to fly to the UK in mid-July. With this promo we won't get all the points until maybe the start of June. What are peoples experiences booking in Business/First about 6 weeks out?

Granted, if we didn't have this promo, we'd be travelling in economy anyway, so by my reckoning, even economy is cheaper buying the points than buying the tickets!

well if you really don't want to wait you can always top up the remaining miles at the full price. Adds a fair bit but might be worth it for peace of mind. What are the dates of the London Olympics? I know availability is looking a bit tight around those times.

Hi All,
Question for the pro's....

I've been doing a bit of searching on SYD-Asia-Budapest routes (in July) and am getting a few options (via,BKK, ICN is tricky), mostly in J Class. F seems very hit and miss and needs more time in front of the computer/headaches, lol.

Are there any aircraft in particular l should avoid on LH,TG,OZ,SQ? Intra Europe l'm not too worried, it's just over an hours hop.
I have heard a people on Flyertalk say that TG 747 are dated and old, but l'm not sure if that is all the 747's they have, or just a few rouge ones?

Here is a quick one l put together. It's only TG/LH, but has the 747 on a few legs...

With regards to TG, from what I've seen it's a bit of a lottery. Also LH Business within Europe is just ecnomy with seat blocked off and better feed I believe.

Have you thought about doing BKK-CDG for the 77W wih F suites on TG?

I have chosen that flight and then getting CDG-FRA on LH. I am also going the long way home FRA-ICN-BKK-SYD to use LH FCT.

All depends if you want maximum value for your miles or just a straight forward route.

Thanks for the idea. Will look into it.

(The first itn l put up, last sector on the 744 should be in J, not F)

it's very simple really... :) any 747 in J is bad. any 747 in F is ok or good... even the 'old' ones on TG are still fine. for the extra $250 each way I would fly first.

Thanks for the info hummel and MEL_Traveller.

The 77W (BKK-CDG) looks tempting, but it's just too many hoops to jump through (IMO). Ask Alan...

If l do BKK-CDG, then l have to back-track, CDG-FRA-BUD. It becomes a long 1 way trip; SYD-BKK, BKK-CDG, CDG-FRA, FRA-BUD, sure, the booze can numb the pain, but you just get over it towards the end and just want to reach your final destination ASAP. l'm not too keen on doing extra sectors, if l can avoid it.

Just in case you're not aware, the '773' operating BKK-FRA from your ANA screenshots is the same 77W config that goes to CDG.

Thanks for the info. I had no-idea. Looks like I can only snag it on the return, not the outbound from BKK...

I think l've been looking at the screen too long, and it's all just doing above my head now...

Heads up! Booked TG F for my parents last November for travel in August: Syd-Bkk-Lhr.

TG were flying 2x daily Syd-Bkk, but on most days there is now only the am flight; the evening flight has been cancelled. The TG computer automatically TF the 2 seats from the evening flight to the following morning flight, which was now arriving AFTER their flight from Bkk to LHR which leaves just past midinght. Rang TG who said they can't touch the booking and I will need to ring US Air. After a quick check on ANA, i was very relieved to see there were 2 F seats on the TG am flight betwen Syd and BKK the day before; had a rather anxious phone call with US airways who changed the seats back to the previous day morning flight without charge. Just means my parents will now have 6-7 hours to soak in the TG F lounge in Bkk, rather than the 2.5 hours previously.

No warning / notification from TG or US - just fortunate that I was checking the booking today...

TG has a funny habit of doing this sometimes. People who regularly booked awards with BD had the same kind of problems at times. Whether the BD ICC informed you of the change was hit and miss.

It always pays to keep checking your reservations, though it is a tedious and most annoying exercise (particularly as US doesn't use any of the common GDS systems, so you can't check it on a generic site; it must always be checked on the US website).

*scampers off the check his*

Phew, morning flight no affected it seems.

Good advice though, I check my bookings a couple of times a week just to make sure.

Here's a quick cheat sheet available on Thai's website of what type of equipment/seats etc are available on what flight numbers... Might help you decide which flights to book... This one is valid up to the start of 2012...

http://www.thaiairways.com.au/vwm/upload/fabpics/Product_and_Services_Cheat_Sheet.pdf

Anyone actually been or seen an A340-600 on the SYD-BKK-SYD route this year? Just checked my booking and Thai website which is still showing the 747 for Dec 2012.

No points have showed up in US Airways yet, it's been 2 days.

Just checked the confirmation e-mail and read this: We received your request to transfer Starpoints® to USAirways. Please allow up to four weeks for the transfer to be completed.

Four weeks!
Just checked on the Grandslam thread, they said they usually take a week.

Just beware this PDF requires a lot of updates!!

Cheers.
If l book my ticket in the next week or so, for travel in July, nothing is really guaranteed that far out, let alone a few weeks...

Just looked in the Thai section on FT. 747 thread.

And the 747 all series SYD-BKK really wasn't that bad at all. I was in F and if it was a night flight I may have been unhappy but as it was, it was a great flight with fantastic service.

The 777 BKK-CDG (in F) is seriously over-rated and I wouldn't make a detour to try it out again. Of course CDG is a complete dump/nightmare to connect to & from too.[/TD]
