bmi is great for one way awards, especially when you can combine them with AA awards for the return. gives you one roundtrip per year!

Bit cheaper on BMI for Asia business class, you could get return for $1240 the other day, check out my posts in the BMI threads as I have successfully done this. I wouldn't be hoarding miles now though, if you get them , burn them.

Hehe me too. Usually it's a bit less actually depending if you want stopovers with many connections or not.

Keep in mind there is no *A traffic between Japan and Australia so you could do a SYD-SIN-NRT on the A380 for 18.750 one way and stopover in SG (this is in Business Class).

With the 744 back on the MEL Route even First Class should be possible again however via BMI it's not really worth it anymore IMHO.

Perhaps you are right and I have miscalculated. I thought it was ~AUD1,400 to get to Asia or Thailand in business class.

In my opinion the strength of BMI is not just in buying the miles but in the ability for me to accumulate miles quicker....

John that was when the 50% promotion was on, is obviously a bit more when this promotion isn't available. Have gone a bit OT here, but anyway will be sad when Diamond Club disappears.
 
$1800 business class return flights to the USA keep me entertained buddy.

No small thing at all.

How can you not see the value?
Some cannot see the value as they have a point where they do not want spend anymore on airfares.

So if business class is $1,800 and economy is ~$1,000 or even $1,200 that is what they will spend and do not want to spend anymore. So for them they do not see any value in business class at $1,800.

The thread title talks about first & business class of course. No one has ever claimed it's an amazing way to beat economy (or even deathstar!) fares - although it can be at certain times of the year on some routes.
 
First time today I have stumbled across this thread, combining it with reading Eightblack's latest trip report on FT I am very curious. As a OWE I tend to stick with them even for painful leisure trips with family and usually in whY at times $2500 rtn for little gain save Lounge access. If I can spend the same amount all be it on different * carriers to travel J or F to Europe then that's a no-brainer.
Will obviously have to split up a large family to get there but it might IMO be worth it ;)

Keep in mind that often on TG you can get 4 seats all on the same flight (booked as 2x2), although your clan may be bigger than that.. worth keeping in mind though!

I have 3 friends booked in C on an LX flight next year - checked today and there are at least 2 more seats still available in C...might join them!!

I totally understand. I am not the one that needs convincing. ;)
 
We are a family of four with two small children so getting four seats on one flight is important to us.

With TG 2F and 2J award seats per flight is common (at least on TG flights with F, if its J only then usually on two J award seats) but sometimes extra seats will open up if those are taken. For example we have 4 TG flights booked in June/July and originally we took the 2F and 2J seats per flight that were available back in September which would involve us having to split cabins but at least all be on the same aircraft. Having done that I later saw 2 extra F seats become available on 3 of the flights so I rebooked the two passengers who were flying in J using an F award and now we have three flights with 4F and one flight still with 2F + 2J.

Asiana is another airline that I regularly see showing 4 J award seats available on many flights.
 
I would definitely consider this even if a OWE...

Some of that loyalty stuff really does stop you looking around to see what else is on offer...

I'm glad you stumbled here :D For not much more cost outlay than a revenue Y ticket, you might as well try your luck at these US awards and have a much more comfortable 20 plus hours travel each way.

PS. Your account/s must be active for 12 days before you are able to buy/share/gift miles so you may or may not have made the cutoff for these round of promo's if you haven't registered yet.

ADL > USA is usually $1400-$1600 on the best possible deals around in Economy, to spend $200 more and get business class is worth it just for the extra luggage alone!, let alone the fact that you are sitting in the pointy end, get to lie flat to sleep, priority baggage & check in lines, get lounge access and the food, shower & beverage associated, as they say in the castle "just paid for itself". I usually drink close to $200 worth of alcohol with all the flight segments. Especially when you are talking 18yo chivas regal ;)

Its not just a good deal, this is BEST kept secret going around, I am very glad I stumbled across it.

Sure it takes a bit more messing around but the 100% point bonus promo coupled with the grand slam promo makes this very rewarding, I once fit into the criteria you are talking about, I was a long haul economy tragic and could never understand why anyone would pay $4000+ extra for 15-20 hours of their life each way but this promo has allowed me to finally make that glorious left turn when entering a plane without breaking the budget! :mrgreen:

This indeed would be the Holy Grail. At the moment on an Amex plat charge transferring your MR points via SPG you can earn $1 = 0.62 DM.

If only we could let US Airways know they mgiht be missing out on a decent slice of business by not having such an option available down here and seeing what they could arrange/who they might be able to partner with...
