Did this itinerary back in Jan / Feb this year for 90000 points each in Business for two pax. Best travel deal of my life!

SYD > SIN on SQ
CNX > BKK > SYD on TG

Was thrilled when our 777-200 got upgraded to the A380 - was a delightful way to start our holiday in style.

Am buying / swapping at the moment to get 150K points each for Europe next December. Am thinking OZ to ICN in business, OZ to FRA in First, then connecting to SK to Stockholm. Coming home, TG from CDG > BKK on the A380 then hopefully a newly configured 747 to Sydney!

Just locked this down this afternoon for my wife and I next March -

PER-JNB-CPT (dest)
CPT-JNB (stop for further revenue flights to HDS for safari)-PER

130,000 points +$248 fees, all business class.

The best thing about these tickets was that looking on a variety of search tools, we pretty much got the only available flights from Perth to Johannesburg showing for the whole of 2013. There are a few dates with one seat, and pretty much nothing with two. I wonder if SAA have pulled some of their availability from *A programs similar to SQ.

Certainly seems different...it's always had very good availability when I've checked before.

Anyone know how MPM works? I can't really see anything in the rules or am I being a bit slack?

I take it for each route I.e Sydney to Chicago there is a 'maximum permitted mileage' allowed plus a % over this figure
But how does the ruling work in relation to stopovers?

I recently ticketed Syd to Ord via Fra but the distance to Fra from Syd is higher than Ord yet Ord is my destination.

Was this ticketed due to the difference between these figures wasn't that great or was it down to the agent I spoke to
was extremely 'helpful'?

thanks for your thoughts - it may help clear this up for people.

I think lucky... routings like that are very clamped down on these days...

I only booked 6 weeks ago though and I booked one ticket one day and another a few days later - 2 different agents both no dramas. For my ticket I was on the phone for less than 10 minutes!

I thought there was someone here who was complaining about trying to book their ticket before the agent mentioned MPMs. Then someone else managed to get the MPMs from KVS.

In any case, MPMs are just that (well, the first word), maximum. There is no contingency on top of that. The previous experience as alluded to above gives some credence to this. Anything otherwise was probably lucky or ticketed in an unorthodox fashion.

That's perhaps not strictly true.

The MPM is a particular figure. US appears to be allowing that figure + 25% contingency (25M). I think what that means that if this was a paid for with cash ticket you could travel that number of miles by paying a 25% surcharge...of course US isn't charging a miles surcharge. If it was a cash ticket you simply wouldn't be able to book anything over 25M...it would have to be split into 2 tickets.

With regard to stop overs, the MPM is based on the origin & destination, like in the example from the other thread YVR-PER...the actual mileage is based on each individual segment added up...that has to be less than 25M (MPM x 1.25).

ok thanks for your thoughts guys - that's how I read into it after reading a few threads on FT.

So SYD to FRA is within the 25M of SYD to ORD

SYD-FRA is a little more tricky to work out than the YVR-PER example because there are different measures of MPM (what they call Global Indicators...let's not go there!). But the lowest 25M value for this routing is 15990 miles which I think is very generous. SYD-ORD 25M = 13860 miles. SYD-BKK-FRA-ORD is between those 2 numbers....soooooooo...you're guess is as good as mine!

I booked a similar itinerary about 4 weeks or so ago. The new wording for MPM in the USMD membership guide is fairly new - as in just a few weeks old.

After almost 12 months of reading, asking and learning, I'm very happy to be able to post my booking I made tonight leaving June 30.

2 x J - MEL-BKK(TG)-FRA(TGA 380)-OSL(LH)-KEF(SK)
ASR-IST(TK)-SIN(TK)-MEL(SQ 777).

110,000 miles each + $161.73 tax + $50 booking fee. Im thinking it might be 110 because KEF is halfway to the US so may be classed as US instead of EU? (rightly or wrongly?)

Whole thing took 40 minutes once I found the right number to call (which took a while in amongst all the posts!) Very professional and efficient agent first time off - read out the flights and wanted and booked with no problems. With the awesome recent share promo + straight into another bonus buy the total cost was $1,690 pp including everything. These routes are currently retailing for around $2,200 in Y so extremely happy.

I would like to thank everyone who has answered my many, many questions about this but especially to mhen for the share formulas between 4 accounts and to bcworld for his ongoing guidance and support every step of the way. Awardtravelr was a god send - I just read out the search results and they were booked - a big fan of this site!

Very excited - first time flying J!!

Hello everyone,

I've finally managed to book my very first ever US award seat last night after a hell lot of research, reading and some help from a couple of you guys here. I made use of the share promo last month to get 100,000 miles each for both my partner and myself and then bought another 50,000 each by making use of "Buy 50,000, pay only 25,000" this month.

Luckily, I had every single leg looked up and prepared using Expertflyer so the call itself wasn't a big drama though both the ladies in Phoenix were not exactly what you'd call friendly. The first one didn't like the hassle and kicked me out of the line once I insisted on putting my itinerary together but luckily on second attempt it all worked (I had the feeling that lady number 2 as rather happy to get a bit of a challenge in nightly Arizona). I've now paid around 2,500 AUD each for an extensive itinerary early August next year all in First (LH legs in J as there's no first intra-Europe): SYD-BKK-CDG (A380)-FRA-LHR with the long legs on Thai and the rest on Lufthansa and on the way back TXL-FRA-BKK (A380)-SYD with the same carriers.

Had to be extremely cautious to get the right dates on some of the connections which went past midnight so a word of caution to all other newbies  The two bookings were nicely cross-referenced and hence we were auto-assigned perfect seats on almost all legs though I called TG for a little change and then went online on LH to change some of their seating online (getting the booking numbers for the other carriers was worth gold). Still can't really believe how easy that all went in the end and getting such a bargain for First, wow! Very very happy :D

Well Done Berlin & thanks for the helpful advice.

Cheers Gary.
