where in the world is roof_lyer…. taswegia will be quarantining itself soon… Oh my…...

Bonjour from Paris ... from which I’m intending to return home soon, and am already planning to self isolate in any event. Groceries being bought for me by my friends garaging my car, put in the car on arrival at a ‘sterile’ exchange. 😀

Two weeks editing a book, time well spent.

Ugh get nonews off our pristine AFF board :)

There's a school of though in the US that Rupert Murdoch could save many lives, by getting his media to report the truth about CoronaVirus rather than parrot the Presidents ramblings.

Look at the end of the day Murdoch is a business man. Who pays his wages? Advertisers. If he plays a part in tanking the economy with rubbish news that contributes towards a recession (Advertisers stop spending) and bumps out an ally President how is that going to help him..

Lets hope his self interest wins out :)

Well I recently watched Bombshell so feel dirty clicking on murdoch.com :)
Sometimes I try to watch Fox. I tell myself, give them a chance, try to see what they see, listen to them, try to understnd their point of view..... then I end up sticking scissors in my ears to make the noise stop.

Sometimes I wonder if they are actors because a rational person cant believe some of the rubbish they sprout.

Scripted rubbish I agree. But stop touching your ears - there is a pandemic 😂

So which airline is this going to hurt the most? The US carriers have huge EU networks?

Still no effects on domestic flights here RooFlyer so that's one thing less to worry about 😉

[mod hat on] I suggest that we all return to the topic, rather than a political diatribe. Any further political discussion will result in posts being deleted or changed[mod hat off]

Discussion on the content of the Trump administration decision and the downstream effects please...

A south Aussie couple in 50/60 age bracket came back from Spain/Italy and were diagnosed today.

Given what the Mathematicians are saying, it’s the right call to save lives UNLESS Washington State & Bay Area are already in crisis

AA were in fairly poor financial shape already, have seen a couple of articles mentioning this could place them on the verge of bankruptcy again

FWIW - Mods delete if already posted - and as much as I detest POTUS - why has thread title not been changed to ‘US bans flights from Europe?’ He is not smart enough for this to be sole decision!

Remember last week? It was all going to blow over in a few days! Did Sco Mo make similar decision today or did Aust Govt make similar decision?

Actually a more correct title would be “US restricts travel from Schengen area in Europe”. No flight bans as such!!

I want a sufficiently wealthy resident of Andorra to evade this Schengen-specific travel ban by chartering a helicopter to Gibraltar and then flying onwards to the UK...

This decision isn't what the US needs to get the virus under control. Given how badly they're doing at screening and treatment, I think we'll learn the true scale of the US epidemic the hard way and I'm honestly more interested in Australia banning US travellers than EU travellers.

Bonjour Rooflyer - looking at your travelogue and all the photos of the amazing food I am not sure you NEED any groceries for a few weeks.. :)

An even more correct title would be "US to build a second wall which Europe will pay for"

And to stay on topic..

How on earth do you now work out RTW trips heading eastwards which I assume relied on a variety of sources that end up at JFK or equivalent. Is the only available route now out of LHR or something like that ?

Are the other routes all suspended ? How does this even work as I assume it's hundreds of planes, slots, logistics..

Given how bad President Trump is handling this issue, it won't be long before countries start banning US visitors. Indeed, it looks like Australia should have already banned US visitors, given the influx of cases coming from the US.

It will be pretty funny to see how the President reacts when the shoe is on the other foot.

Jersey would be closer than Gibraltar!

You are indeed correct! I was thinking of this problem in terms of the territories I've actually visited... turns out GIB is approximately as far as the closest point of Britain itself, but Jersey is a good 120km closer!

OTOH, if you're stuck in San Marino, a country which is technically not in Schengen even though it has open borders with Schengen, and is thus not covered by the President's proclamation even though it has one of the world's highest rates of coronavirus infection per capita... you can easily manage the 150km over to Croatia (part of the EU, but not yet Schengen, and thus excluded as well) via helicopter. Same if you're a Catholic official and haven't left the borders of the Vatican...
