Is there a reason there's only 10 club logos on the side? Or are the rest on the other side?

Good to see so many AFF'ers fans of us on Facebook too! ;)

You can check out some photos from today's first flight ADL - OOL for VH-VUY here:

Virgin Blue flies the Adelaide Crows to pre-season training camp

Thankyou for the link, however some of us cannot access facebook (due to work filters etc) so could you post the info / photos directly to AFF?

Why do Collingwood's logo need to be on the aircraft? Another Virgin gag, I guess.

/too much time on hands/

I wonder how they decided which logos to put on each side as they would not appear to be alphabetical....

/time off/

Still an interesting situation this AFL contract that DJ have snapped up. Alot of the players still fly QF and when speaking to them they have big reservations about DJ. :D

Wonder what the tail will be. Maybe 'Virgin' could be absent, as that style of logo doesn't change?!

EDIT: Yes i can see the word 'Virgin' on the a/c, but that is a small thing to change and fix if need be :p

I heard a rumour that the Brisbane Lions were not very happy and were talks of chartering flights as well.

There has been many stories in the media about several clubs having reservations about the lack of leg room on DJ aircraft and problems with DJ timetables, the WA clubs have apparently told the AFL they will not fly with DJ,not the greatest news for Virgin but I have no doubt they will provide the very best service they can with the equipment they have available.
Cheers

Do they travel in J or Y on QF? Is there that much (if any) of a difference between QF Y and DJ Y pitch?

I think the biggest concern for Jeff Kennett, etc. is losing their Chairmans Lounge access, not the welfare of the players. The NBL likely has an average taller height, albeit less people on each team, and has no public issues with Virgin Blue's seating.

I have no doubt that Virgin Blue will be very accommodating, particularly with non-Victorian teams who must deal with the greatest travel requirements. In addition, with A330's to be deployed by mid-season and lounge improvements, the differences would appear nominal at best.

blueprint - at the time of the NBL announcement, the players were very vocal in the media about how unhappy they were. They were told it wouldn't change and as the comp has changed, it has no longer become an issue. The NBL needs the DJ deal - where as the AFL doesn't.

VHOEJ,
If you say the AFL doesn't need DJ and the AFL doesn't want to deal with QF - are you proposing JQ or TT?

It's a bit ridiculous when the deal has been signed and now the ball in DJ's court to deliver on the promised improvements to keep passengers, including the AFL, happy. That said, you'd think with the revised TV rights income for the AFL - that there would be enough money to private charter all flights over say, 2.5 hours.

Generally QF domestic Y has about 2cm more pitch than DJ.
Do you have some facts to back up that claim? CrazyDave presented some facts a while back, comparing QF and DJ 737 seating plans, showing that DJ has greater seat pitch than the standard QF seat pitch (excluding business class and the convertible rows on QF 737-400 aircraft). I'll see if I can locate the thread.

ok, found the thread: http://www.australianfrequentflyer....velocity/seat-diagrams-side-by-side-7313.html

My comment was based on the published pitches on seatguru.com (averaged out as there is some variation on different aircraft types).

The difficulty is that the Virgin Blue pitch varies a bit more than Qantas. As has been stated, there is generally more pitch in front of the wings than behind - taking that a step further, on Virgin Blue the average pitch on the left of the plane is greater than on the right (forward of the wings the rows on each side don't align exactly as they do on QF).

So for best pitch - sit forward of the wing on the left hand side.

Seat Guru is not accurate, there is no variation for QF mainline, its 31 cm, only for Cobham and QFlink is it different, on DJ its actually better as NM alluded to, as confirmed by Skytrax

Last time I saw them in flight, some were in J (senior, taller players) and the rest in Y (predominantly bulkheads - even the coach slummed it back in y!)

Saw VH-VUY briefly this morning at Sydney's T2 terminal from my QantasLink flight - I didn't get a great look at it as I wasn't in the window seat, but seeing in in person really just drives home how odd and off-balance it looks. Can't wait until the full re-branding is rolled out.
