VA 777 - best seats

So do we think in the new config that the front section of Econ will be Econ +?

I have a return bne-LAX journey booked nov-Jan 2016/7 and already called to request row 20 (bulkhead/bassinet) as will be travelling with infant and little one. I was told row 20 is gone but new front row is 21, but it didn't sound like the agent was confident that there will be a bassinet position at 21 ABC. Can anyone shed any light? I am gold status. Did I score allocation in better than regular economy by chance? Think it will stick?

The bassinets used to be in row 20 in the old config. Row 20 still exists but only for HJK. It depends whether there is going to be a bulkhead in front of 21ABCDFG and 20HJK. If so then I would think there would be bassinets there. Looking at the partial seat map there are toilets and a galley in front so therefore a bulkhead wall would exist. So on the basis of a picture the answer is yes there will be bassinets.

The other way of looking at it is where else on economy cabin would there be a bulkhead?. The only 2 places are row 21ABCDFG, 20HJK in new config (row 20 in old config) and I think 40DFG. Logically there would be bassinets in row 20/21.

Thanks. Have done the journey in 20, 2x previously. The new config looks as though there will be a toilet in front of 21 ABC, can't imagine there would be a bassinet position on toilet wall? And I would not want to sit that closely to the toilet.

I'm not sure how VA is going to market the Economy+ section. Its true generally that Gold and Plat get first dibs at the front rows of each selected cabin.

Not a lot of choice if you want a bassinet. Have you thought of using a car seat inflight? Sorry asked you that before

Will seat request stick? . Well it's never guaranteed, if there are 10 infants wanting a bassinet.....So request early and check in early

you have asked me previously about car seat, and that is not an option as we have booked 3 seats for 4 people.

have been successful 4/4 flights in getting row 20 so confident in it. Just wasn't sure if new config row 21 is an upgraded economy will we lose out assignment. Probably I'm guessing.

Hi All!

Looking for some help here. I have read the thread and can't get a straight read on what the story is with Row 20.

I am flying BNE-LAX next week and then back at the end of the month. Also I've never flown the VA 777

Currently in row 22 as I like windows (apparently 21 is windowless), but wondering if I should move to 20? (I am WP so can allocate)

I am about 6ft and like to stretch my legs while sleeping. For reference I can tuck my toes under the rails of the seat in front on the 737.

Is row 20 more like the 737 Row 3 where its "OMG ALL THE SPACE" or is it like say the SQ 777/A330 where the bulkhead row is actually more annoying for tall people as you can't straighten your legs.

Cheers

my husband is 6'2" and we have done Bne-lax return twice in row 20 and he loves it.

Thanks, does he rate it the same as 737 Row 3 per chance?

I have flown bulkhead on the NZ 777 but didn't rate it as "be okay with this for 14hrs"

Can't seen to find any pics online either :(

Does anyone know if any of the refirbs are flying SYD-LAX (VA1) or BNE-LAX (VA7) Tuesday 29/03 through Thursday 31/03? I'd really like to try the new PE if possible.

Ausbt,

Only the V1.0 are flying those dates

Doing a small sample seat map query, I can see VA7 getting V2.0 end of June and VA1 from beginning of May

Of course like seat selection, aircraft substitution may sometimes occur

Also can you see the seat allocation map in your booking?. The new config is as described several post above in this thread

Difficult to say.
737 R3 is always on short haul
NZ777 Bulkhead Y is different as its a row of 10.

I wont fly a 777 with 10 across unless there is no other choice. Similarly A330/340/350 with 9 across and even the 787 with 9 across might be similar despite all the hype surrounding the "plastic fantastics"

Look like I will get both during my trip in June.

Thanks.

is the 737 the normal 3/3 domestic virgin plane (sorry I don't know)? If so, I think there's more leg room in the 777
on the wall at row 20 is where the bassinets go, which are 36cm wide from the wall and then there's enough room to get up from your seat to get passed it (squeezing). The tvs that come out of the arm rests have to go down usually for someone to get by but i found that in the qantas a380 premium Econ.

Ill put it this way, I suggested upgrading to premium econ and hubs said he'd rather the bulkhead leg room. He's sat in row 20 4 one way 14 flights and no complaints.

I hadn't taken the booking process that far yet, just reviewing pricing which seems ok. Hmmm, weighing up buring 45K points on a J upgrade and taking PE back, or simply going for Row 20. I don't really want to burn too many points as everytime I go somewhere my wife puts her hand out for the points, to use on herself.

1)Well what happens if there is nothing in the points piggy back?;)

2) VA1 on 29/03
Row 20 available except for AK, In PE 12EF, 13EF, 14EFG, 11 DEFGHK, 10 CDEFGHK. In J: 1FG, 3DFG, 4DFG, 5AC
Fare Buckets are: J7 C7 D6 I0 W7 R7 O7 Y7 B7 H7 K7 L7 E7 N7 V7 Q7 T7
Currently the flight is wide open.

3)VA7 on 29/03 has even greater availability in all cabins.
All the fare buckets above has at least 7, even the lowest class T.

However there are no Z (business reward bucket) or P (PE rewards bucket) to upgrade into (Assuming Velocity is strict about their upgrademe points policy)

Many thanks Quickstatus, that's very helpful info. And as if it's bad enough 'donating' the points to my wife, a lot of my $ travel allowance has to be paid to my ex-wife to keep her happy as well! I have colleagues who say "must be nice to have work-funded o/s travel". Work-funded? Hah - actually costs me most of the time

The current 20 really is fine. I'm ok with PE on sale, but can't justify J. I use points to bring in my family with me for the June school holidays or if cash flow has taken a hit!

I'm back to BNE in PE just before Easter so, according to the seat map, I won't see the new layout. I would like to know how the new economy cabin looks! I hope that they add some padding to the seats - VA has the thinnest padding!!

VA has the thinnest padding!!

Even in J the underlay is a litte on the thin side - well I guess it never can be plush enough for some. Actually just had an interesting thought - I wonder what the crew would say if you brought along your own self-inflating mattress - you know like those camping underlays? I reckon it's do-able.
