VA Cancellations, Delays growing?

Why wait for news from the company when I can get it off AFF ;)
The initial complaint from the unions was crew being fatigued.

The new deal includes extra bonus payments when working over 9 hours. Well, that's enticing fatigue with a cherry on top!

Cabin Crew box tick.

Still got Pilots left to go however! I think they will play a harder game.

Lucky the the cabin crew (apparently) said no to the 15% tabled.

Bonus after 9 hours is fair, I mean we get pizza or thrown a beer at work when work into the night 9+ hours.

Hopefully the staff are mostly happy with the result and fine details.

There is no "box tick" until the details are out and it's been voted up. Some conditions have returned to post covid but other conditions such as pay is still 😑

Over 9 hrs of work, that is the CNS - HND schedule, but then, do they have another set of crew ready to do the downwards flight?
Does the crew on this flight, ie, Aust - Japan have a crew rest day over there, before doing the route coming back down to CNS?
Or does the crew wear casual clothes, and then change in HND, into their VA uniforms, for the flight down.
Being paid extra is one thing, but being on the run all the time, can be hard.

They overnight. Wouldn’t be any different to say Bali.

JQ 787 Labor hire crews from Asia do those sort of things. Not Aussie based crew however.

Email received from Virgin Business Flyer just now:

Hi Mr Hawk,

As a valued partner, your loyalty is important to us, and we want you to have confidence and peace of mind when you and your team travel with Virgin Australia.

Late yesterday, we were pleased to reach an in-principle agreement with unions on a new Cabin Crew Enterprise Agreement. Under the new agreement, Virgin Australia Cabin Crew will receive 15%+ salary increases over the next three years depending on the skill and tenure of the crew member.

This is a positive outcome for our people, our business and our guests. This means that bookings can be made with confidence and our guests can be assured Christmas travel plans will not be disrupted by the potential of industrial action.

We thank you for your ongoing loyalty and we wish you the best for the holiday season.

Yours sincerely,
Shanika Ekanayake
General Manager, Virgin Australia Business Flyer

Currently in Melbourne after my 5.20pm flight home to MCY was cancelled today. Try again tomorrow
My brother is on the other end of that. Ended up booking a last minute JQ fare 815pm was only $129. Must be a bit empty today to get last minute fare at that price.

Last flight of the day, ADL - PER tonight cancelled.
Pity anyone with int connections from PER to SIN/HKG with other carriers.

Amanad78, were you offered a hotel for the night, or you have to fend for yourself.

This afternoons to Brisbane VA337 was cancelled on me last night citing weather almost 20 hours in advance. Also had VA474 tonight changed on me from -800 to an all economy -700 resulting in a downgrade from J to down the back.

Do you know how they forced VA2 to rebook them onto QF? I wonder if the ‘overnight’ part triggered it? I ask because someone I know who got stuck was refused when they asked to be rebooked onto Jetstar or Qantas when VA2 went down, again.
A mate of mine (platinum and in business) last month was meant to be on the 1455 PER-MEL on a Sunday but they cancelled it due to no crew, they initially rebooked him on the 2330 PER-BNE, 0655 BNE-MEL, he requested QF on the 1610, 1720 or 2230 QF flights and was told sorry this is something we don't do.

After some pushing he managed to get on the 2255 PER-SYD, 0645 SYD-MEL, back in Melbourne approximately 12hrs later the originally scheduled.

Good result.
You don't get far without crew so arriving early next morning certainly not the worst result.
Good to see VA being flexible in options under these crew shortages.

I wouldn't call that a good result at all. No sleep all night and back on a work day and late for work?

VA had the ability to rebook him via QF and chose not to. There was no flexibility from VA here.

Seemed like your mate had a few options provided by VA.
Your trying to say your mate wanted exactly what he wanted and was not happy with any other option.

It's generally not company policy to provide you with a ticket on another airline, yes it has and does happen, but very much so the exception rather than the rule.

It could've been worse arriving home in the arvo.

Airlines always have the ability to book on other airlines, if you think they should do this every time then thats your prerogative.

Who has the authority to book onto QF? And how is that actually done?

I assume someone not working for a subcontractor would make that call? Ie a VA Manager on the airline’s direct payroll that is higher up
