VA economy food & drinks

I’ve recently questioned VA’s proposition for passenger’s without status or care to attain points after reviewing flights for the family ex Perth to East Coast and short haul to Fiji.

As not regular flyers, there is the perception they don’t want to fly JQ although I see little value in them paying more with VA for a similar experience.

The complimentary Tea, Coffee & Water is certainly appreciated ( Juice would be great too! ) although feel more ‘Value’ is required in certain markets.

Could VA distinguish themselves on flights over 3.5 Hours with a Complimentary Snack & Non Alcoholic Drink?

( I know this was of great debate previously )

Even as low as 3 hour flights to take in Cairns flights to complete with JQ and also include short haul to Fiji & Bali
( meals were introduced previously to compete )

It feels that with prices of Airfares currently, there is less value flying VA opposed to JQ if the customer was to choose on $$ and inclusions onboard alone.

VA are able to fill their planes at the current fare levels without having any included catering. The offering is clear and simple.

Do you still get meals on DPS?
No & Bali is a strong market with JQ’s 787’s so offering a little more than a No Frills approach (but less than QF meal service ) maybe required in the future on certain sectors including short haul as this recent review cautions.

Basically its a case of what they don't know wont hurt them... or VA
Infrequent passengers don't usually have much insight into the service differentials between one airline and another. They don't even know the type of aircraft they are flying in. For most people in that market segment, it is all about the $$$. Even travel insurance is optional.

Assuming that you recall "something" in the past about catering doesn't carry much weight moving forward in the aviation industry! Australians are notorious wanting QF service on JQ budget. VA are pretty clear as to what is included. To be honest, buy on board is probably superior to anything VA catered on a complimentary basis on shorthaul or transcon in the past.

The current menu offering on VA domestic isn't too bad seemed like enough choices, and my choice was available on a recent flight. (muffin)

Virgin used to offer a meal on flights to Perth which was good, so I am a little worried if I was flying to Perth and nothing was available to purchase.
tea/water/coffee is about right for the eastern seaboard.

I flew with Virgin to Fiji in economy and I wish they had more on their BOB menu for international flights. Even Jetstar offers more on their international flights. I was fairly hungry after arriving and really wish I could have bought more than just the cheese and crackers and chips that I had on board.

I'll stick with JQ, although being a QFF I might be a little biased. Behind the J curtain, the VA product remains that of a low-cost budget Virgin Blue in my eyes!
