VA Platinum access to delta lounges on domestic american flights

This thread makes me nervous about booking an SFO-LAX flight on DL... however their Sky Club in SFO looks FAR superior to the AA and UA lounges (except the UA GF lounge which I won't have access to)..!

Why? DL is great particularly on recognition of benefits for VA.

The DL sky club at SFO is really nice.

Arrived at ATL terminal B and handed over our boarding pass.

Delta lady said "first" domestic doesn't get lounge access.

I apologized, said hubby was VA WP and will get his card.

She said no worries, his details are on the boarding pass, pressed a few keys and welcomed us in.

Took about 30 seconds.

Good to know, I've got quite a few Delta flights coming up in June...

I've never had problems accessing a Delta lounge inside the US. DL staff just swipe my card and welcome me in.

However I'm VA platinum and am currently investigating DL branded flights with several sectors to and inside the US and Canada. This will be flying in premium economy/DL comfort.

According to the Velocity site there is no lounge access when flying out of BNE, however they do allow it ex SYD. The flight is on VA metal.

Also no lounge access in Canada.

Will wait to see what is offered when details of the VA/AC arrangement are made known.

A further comment on DL lounges for VA Gold/Plat...
The only lounge I have ever had trouble with was JFK. JFK never ever ever let me in, no matter what I say. I get around it by flying in/out of Newark. Your mileage may vary.
LAX on the other hand, well Jeff the bartender pours my drink when he sees me walking in.
List of airports I have had no issue with on multiple occassions: ATL, EWR, SLC, LAX, SEA
This access has been on both international DL to Sydney and domestic onward journeys coming off VA metal on seperate tickets (i.e domestic only tickets).

People often say they have problems in MSP.

Interesting.
I couldn't remember if I flew DL or United through MSP, but looking at the list now it seems I did fly DL, on two occasions, as stopovers between LAX-EWR and TUS-LGA. I would have used the SkyClub and I don't recall any issue.

My mileage does indeed vary - never had an issue with JFK (or MSP). Never had an issue with DL anywhere, in fact only "issue" I've had is when BOS wouldn't let me in without swiping my card, whereas usually the BP has been enough. Good to get some inside tips on what to do if things do go awry though.

I suggest you contact velocity with this information - they should be able to take it up with Delta and get the JFK sky club staff re-educated.

If you have the Virgin AUstralia App on your phone you can bring up a digital image of your VFF membership card with all your details and which has a QR code that can be scanned and includes the wording "loyalty program of Virgin Australia". Of course you might need some form of internet access to bring up the app but you can always take a screen print of the card and use that.

According to Velocity they intend making available a digital version of the membership card that can be stored in the iPhone's Wallet app later this year.

Rocked up a Nashville SkyLounge, handed over Velocity card, a few clicks, lady said "we don't see your kind (card) often" and welcomed in.

Only issue I've had was at JFK last month where the lounge agent insisted to see (and swipe) the physical Platinum VA Card even though my status was on my boarding pass and I had the digital card on my App.

I've flown LAX-MCO and back several times and I'm a gold member and didn't have any issues at all using the Delta Lounge.

Delta refused me entry in ATL.

Both Flying Delta First domestic.

Showed her my Virgin Plat card and she sighed and said "that is a credit card sir - you cannot get entry here with that".

I replied no it is a Virgin Platinum card - and we both have one.

She looks at it again and no - it is a VISA card sir, affiliated with Virgin. See the VISA symbol right here?

She was not budging in any way.

Lucky it was quiet and her fellow Dragon who overheard it all, tapped her keypad, and showed Dragon #1 some rule or other on her screen, and Dragon #1with VERY bad grace and a scowl allowed us in.
