VA status extensions

I requalified in Jan 2020 for June. I have plat status currently til June 2021. I was told this would be auto extended til June 2022. Does this mean I now have to take a flight and only get to March 2022? Asking the brains trust? (Also Mr Dee in same boat but earlier for Jan 2021)
Call them - See upthread from post #11! - you should be able to get June 2022.

People who got the March extension are eligible for this offer, as long as their review period is in 2021.
exactly this offer is for all who got extended back in March 2020.

The few that got an extra year extension on top of the March 2020 extension who have called Velocity for the reason that they had already qualified are exempt from this 1 sector flight March extension as their anniversary date is already 2022. If that make sense.

I've been on the phone with Velocity about all this over weekend & they called me back now to confirm few things.

The claim it's a 12month extension is just false, complete incorrect, as it varies for all depending on each individual anniversary.

I'd love to meet the marketing guru's of VA & QF who sign off on these offers, full of inconsistencies & loop holes.

How'z make & take a paid flight (any form of payment other than reward flight) by end of March & your extended for 12 months, simple.

Correct it's not a 12 month extension and also it's more murky in truth....

IE in my case my annual annivesary is September.

So in December 2019 I had retained platinum (then covid hit and all the relevant bonus credits and extensions etc).

Hence I clarified in September 2020, that I have platinum until September 2022 (which now others have done and had confirmed as other have since my post)
Though this isn't quite the case.
The truth is it means:
Up until September 2021 nothing is counted as retaining platinum because status credits only last for 12 months. So September 2020 - September 2021 is my year of burning points.
Come September 2021 I have 1 year until September 2022 to retain platinum, if I dont I drop down to gold.

I'm platinum and review date 31/1/21 but no offer of extension or anything on my account. Guess I'd better call

Were you eligible for an extension in March that hasn't been applied yet?

I’m confused. I’m currently VA SG with a review date of early Jan 2021. Just received the following email that says I’ll get a 12mth extension (nothing extra to do). Is this one and the same extension announced before the “1 flight” deal just announced?

Hi SYD

We’re pleased that you’re eligible for the Status extension we announced in April 2020.

This means that in 1 month when your Status is reviewed, you’ll automatically receive a further 12 months of your current Status.

You don’t need to do anything; your extended year of Status will automatically be applied and the Review Date that appears on My Velocity and the Velocity Frequent Flyer App will be updated.

Once your new Benefit Period begins you’ll need to earn 400 Status Credits and 4 Eligible Sectors to maintain Gold again.

That is how read it from their website. Those you got an extension in march have a 2022 review date and need to do nothing. My partner upgraded to Plat in may or june and although no email I am guessing, against her will she will need to take a flight to keep Plat for one more year.

I don't quite follow you. Especially when you say "Those you got an extension in march have a 2022 review date"?

Under normal circumstances, your review date could never be more than 12 months in advance. The extensions earlier this year were handed out on 1 April (not March), and if we assume review dates are randomly distributed throughout the year, then at that time, most people would have had a review date some time later in 2020 (with perhaps 25% or so having review dates in early 2021). Surely after getting a 12 month extension, most of those people would now have a review date in 2021, rather than 2022?

The VA email seems to make it clear that the "take one flight by 28 March 2021" offer is applicable to those people, as long as their new review date is in 2021.

In SYD's case they were eligible for the extension offered in March/April, but that only kicks in on renewal, which in this case is January 2021, so their new review date is January 2022.

Yep. That dawned on me reading through various pages. I guess we in the Jan/Feb 21 review date window got the max out of the original extension? It's just taken so long to roll through that I forgot what was happening when!

Plus we got those freebie SCs - not that they did much in my case....

Yes, I understood SYD's situation, it's the reply from hydrabyss that I can't follow.

Sorry I was thinking of my own review date which was January 2021 and with the 12 months made it 2022.
Ok no worries, thanks!

BTW, I still haven't got clarity on my situation from VA. A reminder that my review date was August 2020, but I had already retained before COVID hit, so the "extra 12 months" that was handed out in April didn't make any difference to me. My review date is now August 2021, but VA have not yet got back to me to confirm if I will get a year added onto that or not.

If you call them, you know the process of dialling a number on your mobile instead of just email.
If you qualified & receied the 12 month extension, then call VA, explain you situation & they'll extend you another 12 months as you did earn it, making the extension to all not meaningless to you.

August 2022 expiry you'll have.

I did call them, what made you think I didn't?

The person I spoke to said they were not sure, and they'd get back to me, but have not yet done so. I know several people with similar circumstances to mine have reported getting the 12 months added to their 2021 expiry, but as far as I can tell, all of those people got this confirmed before VA announced the new status retention offer this week. Previous posts above reported getting email confirmations within minutes of calling up, but I haven't got one yet (2 days later).

I'm wondering if this new status retention offer has superseded what seems to have been an unofficial (perhaps case by case) policy. If everyone in my situation (and there would have been loads) automatically gets 12 months from their 2021 review date, I don't see why VA wouldn't have simply announced that. Anyway, fingers crossed they will get back to me eventually with good news.

It is all getting a bit confusing. I earned platinum on March 24th, so my review date is March 24th 2021 when I get the 12 months extension until March 24th 2022. Being in Melbourne and unable to fly until now my status credits are dropping off like flies. The bonus 70 status credits for 3 months granted for 3 months will drop off in due course having no actual benefit. I will indeed have completed 8 flights by end of March 2021. So does this all mean that with the further announcement of status extensions this will not benefit me as well beyond my March 24th 2022 date? I have received no communication from VA other than the original email months ago re the original extension. Unless I had accessed these threads I would be none the wiser what was actually on offer in regards to business class upgrades etc. I would have thought that as a WP there would be better communications to keep us in the loop and to encourage our continued loyalty. Or am I missing something?

According to this you should get the 12 mth extension (but don’t expect an email until Feb):

But you may want to call them.

Worst case - from what I can gather - one flight between now and end of March 21 will get you an extension to Mar 22.

I have already completed one flight and a second flight next Sunday but will have qualified anyway for an extension to March 24th 2022. Already have 5 flights booked up until end of Feb so at least hopefully able to at least able to take advantage of business upgrades. I have so many $ in international flight credits that I have to use domestically. Sort of sucks but at the same time am able to take advantage of the credits so am grateful in that respect.

I will complete two flights over the weekend and am wondering if anyone received an email after? My 3rd eligible flight will be in about a week's time so it will be interesting to see how the upgrades are managed.

Mind you the press coverage and details on this promo have been pathetic. I think some like Executive Traveler are asleep at the wheel because normally they'd publish an in depth article about something like this. Other news sites mentioned the extra free year but obviously Velocity didn't put a big enough spin on it like they do with other promotions.

Funny you mention that. I was just looking at a PointsHack article and I think they may have it totally wrong? Reading this same article the other day led to the confusion in my earlier post.

The article suggests that someone like me with a Jan 2021 review date will benefit the most from the 1 flight extension offer (15 mths status ext). But they appear to have forgotten the comp extension. So in reality I might get one month benefit (assuming the 1 mth status grace period holds)?
