But they appear to have forgotten the comp extension

Yes and no. The way I read the Velocity T&C's is that if you have not had the original comp extension applied yet (ie you already earned the year outright) then you're ineligible for this deal. Basically, you've got to have a current review date between 1 Jan and 31 Dec 2021 and already have used the comp extension in the process.

Both Qantas/Virgin and basically every airline/hotel has stuffed up in this regard... they should have come out early on and said we'll put your status on ice until further notice (ie when things return to normal, which is surprisingly happening sooner then you'd think - Brisbane airport domestic parking is "full" this weekend). Instead, they've all got these confusing ways of "maintaining customers" which in the process are disincentivising customers from wanting to maintain status. All of my flights post covid have been based on the most suitable time and then price, this has ended in a significant number of jetstar flights (and I've survived) all because they haven't been flights at crazy hours.

So when would they unfreeze everything? Now, based on Brisbane car park? Or some other measure. If the status was simply frozen, what incentive could they give you to fly?

Just about any response they could have given would suit some more than others.

MEL-SYD has been matched at Rex $79 if your looking for a cheap way to maintain that x1 eligible flight.

I think the confusion in all this stems from the various email sent in March and April 2020. So my situation is: review date in January 2021, partner review date is August 2020. Both Gold after I dropped from Platinum. Partner received the one flight email recently to have a status extension, while I received the following back in April 2020:

Some of you have been asking us questions about how your Status extension will work. Sorry we weren’t clear in our email to you a few hours ago.

Your current Status will be extended for a further year1. Since we weren’t planning on reviewing your status until 14 January 2021, you’ll get a further 12 months once you reach that date. You don't need to do anything and once your bonus year of Status begins, you'll be able to see this on our Website and in the Velocity App.

You will of course still receive the Status Credit gift2 we offered you in our last email. We hope this is now a little clearer.

So based on the April 2020 email, my status will be extended for another 12 months once January 2021 hits.

And looking at the terms of that one flight email received by my partner, I wouldn't be eligible as I would fall into the status not yet applied category.

I flew my 2nd eligible sector today and the 5000 bonus points appeared instantly.

They dropped together with the original flight as bonus points which is rather impressive.

I'll fly the 3rd sector on Friday and I'm currently gold so I assume that the economy x will become free almost instantly once the flight posts.

Thanks for the update... What's your review date?

My current review date is August 2021. It was previously August 2020 but I received the comp year a few months ago.

Based on the T&C's I'm eligible but the frequently asked questions indicate that the review date won't be updated until 28-31 March 2021:

I did my second eligible sector yesterday and had the bonus 5000 bonus points within a couple of hours of completing the flight. I have another flight coming up soon so from that point I hope to use the business upgrades from any of the economy fares. It is the only way that I would get to use my free 4 for the year before my review date. I worked so hard to get to WP. It was all seeming for nought so there will be some reward for the loyalty and effort.

My review date is in Feb 2021 - I've got almost 600 SCs and 1 sector.
I'm hoping I'll get extended to Feb 2022 since I definitely can't meet the requirements with the travel I've got booked or could book....

With review date of January 2020 - with enough to requalify for Gold, got email saying 'status maintained to Jan 2021 review date'. Then post CV got another email saying the same thing again which was irrevelant. Didn't waste time following up.

Last week got email saying that 'Gold' status now extended for an additional year through to review date of January 2022.

Fair result but not the smoothest handling.

I just got off the phone with Velocity. I had automatically qualified for an extension from 22/12/20 to 22/12/21 so I thought I'd ask how the extra year extension worked. Ends up that my membership is now being held as Gold until December 2022 so I'm happy with that outcome.

Receive both myself and the wife’s extension details this morning. Depending on their plans for J and lounges I might not have much use for it but handy backup

Hi Jase05

We’re pleased that you’re eligible for the Status extension we announced in April 2020.

This means that in 1 month when your Status is reviewed, you’ll automatically receive a further 12 months of your current Status.

You don’t need to do anything; your extended year of Status will automatically be applied and the Review Date that appears on My Velocity and the Velocity Frequent Flyer App will be updated.

Once your new Benefit Period begins you’ll need to earn 800 Status Credits and 8 Eligible Sectors to maintain Platinum again.

Not sure if I missed something; have those receiving an extra year been sent a physical card? Greedily, I'm only thinking about it as I may need it for a status match...

my plat review date is Jul 2021 and wife Feb 2021 Have not heard a thing from Velocity about any extensions.

I had a review date in May 2020, and had already requalified for Gold prior to the announcement of the status extensions. I sent an email in early December to Velocity to see if I could get the extension.

A couple of weeks later I got a reply stating that the status extension gift will maintain my Gold status until May 2022 - however it wouldn't show in the membership area as the system can only show one 12 month benefit period at a time.

And now a new airline to use the status with (once normal activity resumes) - Air Canada. Earn & burn with them from day one however at this stage no lounge access for Platinum nor Gold VFF
